Australia has been reporting shark attacks nearly as often as the USA. Weather conditions has nothing to do with it. The southern hemisphere is in winter and the northern hemisphere is in summer. It is about the number of sharks and the abundance of prey. There could be a recovery of the species, but, more than likely the fisheries are in trouble.
It needs research, but, in the USA there are frequent assessments of fisheries. I am not sure what is done in Australia in regarding the monitoring of their fisheries. I know the fisheries off Thailand has collapsed and that was a few years ago. The majority of fish harvested today off Thailand is squid. That is why all those large monstrous fish are being caught. They are swimming at higher depth as they search for food, too.
