This isn't rocket science. "E-Verify" has been around since the 2000 or 2001.
What's the problem?
Whitman just didn't care.
This is their issue. This is a no brainer. She broke the law.
An immigrant has to file an I-9 just like everyone else within three days of employment.
Where is the paperwork that Whitman has to prove she followed the law? She didn't keep records? Well, how convenient is that?
...The program (click title to entry - thank you) was authorized by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA). In short, employers submit information taken from a new hire's Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification Form) through E-Verify to the Social Security Administration and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to determine whether the information matches government records and whether the new hire is authorized to work in the United States....
Tbis is a Republican issue. THEY are demanding deportation, monies for border fences, etc., etc. Whitman never complied with the law. She is above it all. Her credibility is in definate question. How can she talk out of both sides of her mouth and expect no one to regard it as a character flaw and questionable integrity?
If the social security number and name do not match, (click here) then the employee is directed to contact the SSA to clear up the issue.
NINE YEARS and her employment was never validated by Whitman? It was supposed to be logged and resolved in a WEEK. What the heck goes on?
"...If the employee cannot establish his or her identity and authorization to work in the U.S., then you must terminate his or her employment to avoid liability.
It seems to me Ms. Whitman is facing some liability. Nine years worth !
So, according to Whitman, she was basically stupid about the people that were working for her. She hired through an agency and never bothered to check anyone's status. Immigrant or not an I-9 has to be filed by everyone. NO excuses. Whitman is lying and/or pathetic.
Whitman was a CEO. She didn't ask for I-9s from her employees? I mean for real.
E-Bay. Where Whitman fostered an adult site.
...In January we wrote about discontent among workers (click here) at eBay's Salt Lake City-area call center. They didn't enjoy serving customers concerned about the quality of their Strap On Cyberflesh Hollow Extension Dong, or the resolution on their DVD of Blond Cougar from Down the Street Fucks Like a Teen.
One of the Mormon call center employees was so pissed off that he sued, obtaining a deposition from Whitman in which she claimed she was aware of concerns about her porn site. Also deposed was one of Whitman's top underlings, who described his boss' stance in a manner remarkably similar to the way she's dealt with allegations from her ex-housekeeper Nicky Diaz. In both cases, she has claimed the issues at hand were simply beyond her grasp as a manager. In the case of immigration, she apparently didn't know how to find out if an employee's documents were legit. And at eBay, she seems to have run a fetish pornography empire because, well, she didn't know how not to....
There isn't anything else to say. This is the same PRIVILEDGED demeanor we witness with Republicans over and over and over again. Whitman is the one taking the 'hard line' for the benefit of being elected, but, when it comes to personal accountability there is none. End of discussion.
A CEO from an multi-national company doesn't seek 'bonded' domestic help from an agency?
Give me a break.
