A car enters a gas station in Beijing Tuesday August 2, 2005. World oil prices reached record highs overnight following the death of Saudi Arabia's King Fahd. Analysts say demand from China and the United States have eaten into global excess capacity because of robust growth in both nations, contributing to rising prices. (AP Photo/Greg Baker)

The need for China is much greater and was being proactive with the 2008 Olympics coming when it bid for UNOCAL.

The gas prices in China are no less than the USA. It was completely "W"rong to accuse the Chinese of trying to subvert the USA sovereignty. They are in the same boat as we and all they were doing was bidding for relief for their citizens. The Chinese deserve an apology from Bush/Cheney, the State Department and the Congress that wrongly stated their case. This is nothing but free open market. There was nothing covert about it or intended. Posted by Picasa
