The duty is monotonous. They are primarily unarmed. The military has assessed and reassessed the migrants headed to the USA southern border. The US Troops at the border at actually not at the border, but, 90 miles from the border.
Thanksgiving is coming and while the troops are more than happy to serve the demands of it's country, there is little reason to maintain a large number of troops at the border through the holiday.
If President Trump wants to return some dignity to his office, he should ask for volunteers to maintain the camp and return the troops to their families this Thanksgiving. The troops will understand they can be called if there is a real need at the border now that the camp is established and ready for them to act.
There are approximately 400 migrants at the El Chaparral port of entry. The Border Patrol is closing some northbound lanes from Mexico to control the flow of any migrants when seeking to cross.
...Luis Bustamante, (click here) assistant secretary of the government of the state of Baja California, said there is room for about 900 migrants to sleep in Tijuana's handful of migrant shelters and churches. With the roughly 400 migrants who arrived Tuesday, Bustamante said only about 500 more migrants will find accommodations. Thousands more are on their way from central and southern Mexico.
The migrants will have to wait in Mexico if they cannot be accommodated in USA housing facilities. They have received significant help in Mexico to move them forward to the border. It has been interesting to realize the level of compassion these migrants have received in their movement north. But, a fraction of those that have made the entire trip to the border will have to find a peaceful way of living at the Mexico side of the border until there are others processed in USA housing and room is made for them.
There is no reason to believe the migrants will achieve a violent entry to run amok in the USA. Their behavior at this point is more important than they realize. They need to be patient and realize the USA staff along the border, including government staff and NGOs, are doing their best to process people in need of safety. There is also no reason to believe these migrants are in danger at the Mexico border. They have been supported by others that care about their well being. That simply needs to continue until they receive relief.
