Mitch McConnell has something more to do than complain about nominating a Supreme Court judge...

...and Speaker Ryan has something more to do than make commercials. There needs to be a lawsuit against Congress to move them forward to defend against this virus and end it internationally. It is a very small world for Zika. The first vaccine won't be ready until fall 2016 for a trial. That needs to move more quickly because the greatest danger will have passed by then.

The virus has been confirmed to be transferred sexually as well as mosquito. This virus has mutated into a very deadly and dangerous disease. If no one believes this, ask the parents.

—Researchers also have linked Zika to stillbirths, miscarriages, eye problems and other complications, with problems not only in the first trimester but throughout pregnancy.
—Brazilian researchers reported Sunday that Zika preferentially targets developing brain cells. They used stem cells to study embryonic brain development in lab dish, and reported in the journal Science that virus taken from a Brazilian patient destroyed the growing neural cells in a few days.
—There’s also evidence that some adults occasionally may suffer serious effects from Zika. Researchers already were studying whether Guillain-Barre syndrome, a nerve condition that can cause paralysis, is linked to Zika. And Sunday, another Brazilian research team reported two Zika patients who suffered yet another problem, a brain inflammation that damages the coating of nerve cells in a way similar to multiple sclerosis.

Zika is a hemorrhagic virus. IF THERE IS A VACCINE for it this fall and if there are people unaffected by it after mosquito season and the country hasn't run out of condoms; the vaccine will become a staple no different than measles or polio.

And, oh yeah, married people will have to use condoms, too, in case the spouse was unwittingly exposed. It is a clever little virus.

Washington — The more researchers learn about the Zika virus, (click here) the scarier it appears, federal health officials say, as they urge more money for mosquito control and development of vaccines and treatments.
Scientists increasingly believe the Zika virus sweeping through Latin America and the Caribbean causes devastating defects in fetal brains if women become infected during pregnancy.
“Everything we look at with this virus seems to be a bit scarier than we initially thought,” Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said at a White House briefing.
And while experts don’t expect widespread outbreaks in the continental U.S., “we absolutely need to be ready,” she said.
President Barack Obama has sought about $1.9 billion in emergency money to help fight the Zika epidemic internationally and to prepare in case the virus spreads here, but the request has stalled in the GOP-controlled Congress. Last week, the administration said it would use $589 million in funds left over from the Ebola outbreak for some of that work....
Zika has the promise to completely debilitate an entire country over time.

...More than 300 travel-associated cases of Zika have been reported in the U.S. so far, and the CDC also wants travelers to take extra steps to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes when they come home — so local insects won’t pick up the virus and spread it. While CDC does expect some clusters of homegrown Zika to occur, it is working with state and local governments to boost mosquito control....

That is an admirable idea, but, nearly impossible to achieve. There needs to be excellent mosquito programs throughout the USA. A STATE ENTOMOLOGIST is vital to that control. The entomologist will require staff and facilities, if they don't already. A State Entomologist will focus on areas where mosquitoes breed and treatment that works to end the possibility of outbreak of the virus.

Fish eat mosquitoes, but, they also eat flies. I haven't read any research into any food contamination in the food chain that carries forward after fish ingest the mosquito. If it is found that fish successfully ingest Zika without contamination into the food chain, the state fisheries need to move along to increase the fish populations where Zika HAS POTENTIAL. Better yet where mosquitoes breed. Fish can become a barrier to success for Zika so long as the fish can be reliable to be healthy beyond ingestion.

The possibility of increasing fish populations throughout the effected countries could be a viable treatment against the virus. IT NEEDS RESEARCH, ASAP.

To note: Those infected with Zika will have to be able to afford mosquito repellent. The repellents should be tested against the Aedes mosquitoes. Some formulas of standard brand mosquito repellents can vary from $5.00 per canister to $95.00. No lie. A generic formula of repellent that actually works against the Aedes mosquitoes need to be granted a prescription status for those on Medicaid.

The cost of mosquito repellent will skyrocket as time goes by this summer. There has to be a REASONABLE and RESEARCHED answer.

This problem is not going to disappear. There is no magic bullet.

Pretending there is no problem will be disasterous with any potential to spreading to subtropical latitudes beginning with Florida.

As noted by the CDC, the virus has already been transported into the country through travel.

It is destined to become a political issue.
