No small prize for al Qaeda. The people of Pakistan want to end the threat of the Taliban. Kindly click here.

Enough troops...US won't end airstrikes...

MINGORA, Pakistan (AP) Pakistan's president is insisting that his army has enough troops in the northwest to handle the fight against Taliban militants. He tells NBC that his country's existence is at stake there. Tens of thousands more civilians fled the fighting there today during a brief lifting of a curfew.Pakistan's army says it's killed hundreds of militants since the offensive began last week.

WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama's national security adviser says the nation can't fight with "one hand tied behind our back." So, he's refusing to rule out any action in Afghanistan, and says the U.S. won't end airstrikes there. James Jones tells ABC that the U.S. will continue to act based on the best intelligence available. Afghanistan's president appealed for an end to those strikes after raids that were blamed in the deaths of dozens of civilians.

...What becomes apparent is that the Pakistani public is faced with a hydra-headed monster, and it is unable to agree on which is the greatest of all evils. Do we, the people, react to the lack of governance at the centre and the occupation of our territories by an ideological group? Do we, as a Muslim majority, protest the perversion of Islam at the hands of violent, suicide-bombing militants? Do we, as feminists, decry the violation of women’s rights? Or do we, as humanists, focus on the plight of hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people who for too long have been written off as collateral damage? Indeed, understanding the paralysis of civil society in the face of the Taliban onslaught lies at the heart of the identity crisis that Pakistan has faced since its inception....

This is the common dilemma of separating church and state and yet in Muslim countries it is nearly impossible to find such a divide. To allow such 'co-mingling' of priorities with extremist groups still in force around the globe, the need for such separation is vital. However, if candidates of such countries were 'monotone' in their appearance how does one know exactly whom is being elected? Or does it matter? Is such a statement bigoted?

The analogy to the USA elections of 2000 and 2004 can be drawn. While the country, especially the election of 2000 expected an election of a President void of religious bias, it took place anyway. Once G. W. Bush was elected the landscape of the governing body in the federal authority changed and took on a unilateral Christian Conservative undertone following the flogging of the American electorate on September 11, 2001 by al Qaeda.

In countries such as Pakistan where the people desperately want peace within their borders that emulate democratic principles and freedom, the potential dangers of militiants coming to power are all to present allowing destabilization and bloodless coups.

The words of President Zardari while visiting the USA were clear. It was while his wife, Benazir, was Prime Minister that the first rumblings of destabilization occurred allowing Musharraf his claim to authority. The Pakistani people have to separate religious extremism from a benevolent religious authority. Radical religious dogma must be viewed as a threat to Pakistan's sovereignty and civil rights. Religious theology cannot be a government directive, nor should the courts reflect such bias.

It seems plainly obvious to me, the Pakistan President Zardari has a very easy task. He needs to promote the 'understanding' that citizens of Pakistan don't have to choose between religion and democratized principles within their lives. They can have both. Sorting out the 'understanding' for Pakistani citizens can be as simple as 'consenting' to have 'the best' of both while separating the authority of religion from government.

Free elections should be 'safe elections' with candidates that are trustworthy with proven benevolent human rights records.

In Muslim countries where democracy is welcome as a government and elections occur, there needs to be a 'qualifying' movement through the ranks of the political theater. In countries where violence, destabilization, civil and human rights violations are more than possible, the candidates need to qualify for elections proven in their loyality to the capacity they have shown for benevolence to the country. The people that vote, should not fear to vote and mistakenly place a violent authority in its ranks, so much as a 'strong' authority. There is a huge difference between candidates that 'strongly and determinately' govern as opposed to those that promote violence as a methodology.

In countries, such as Pakistan, the electorate still await education to the process of securing their country away from violence. They need a trusted figure, such as Benazir's spouse, President Zardari, to 'chat' with Pakistan openly regarding the decision of 'good choices' rather than 'partisan choices.' If peace is to work in Pakistan and Civil Rights take the prominent place in every election, the President needs to 'help' the citizens 'accept' responsible decision making through addresses to the country on 'processing progress' as opposed to 'reacting to events.'

Progress toward Civil Rights is far different and more predictable than 'sudden' proclamation. Democracy is not a violent or sudden process, it is a transitional process. President Zardari will find a way to talk to the people of Pakistan. He'll make it happen.

....That said, there are many Pakistanis who openly describe themselves as anti-Taliban. But what exactly does that mean? Opposition to Talibanisation has been interpreted in myriad ways: anti-violence, pro-education, pro-nationalism, anti-sectarianism, pro-democracy and more.

Reframe the question in a religious context and the debate is endless. Some Pakistanis are outraged at extremist interpretations of Islam. Others are advocating that democracy be upheld and a separation of church, rather, mosque and state be enshrined in the constitution once and for all....

The Screwballls have the day. NATO compromises peace initative by President Obama.

NATO 'military games' hostile to definition of 'global human rights.'

It has redefined limits of peace initative with any Russian involvement.

Can Obama's Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament initiative still be achieved? This is the plight of Russia all the time, standing its sovereignty while 'fighting the good fight' but receiving the worst PR on the planet. It is what caused the Cold War and fuels poor alliances between 'Nuclear Wannabee Nations.'

War Games. For God sake why? What was so idiotically important that could be FIRST be resolved by diplomatic measures?

Europe needs to 'get over' its fear of Russia. Russia is forced into aggressive stance all the time because of the 'unjustified' actions of The West. If a country cannot remove itself from 'the image' of being hostile (an enemy), even when in the face of overt FACTS otherwise (in this case the human rights abuse of Georgia of its own people), it is left to accept its 'reputation' as defined by its offenders and act in its own best interest. That is what Russia has been forced to do and continues to do.

The NATO war games were "W"rongly deployed and as long as this stance against Russia continues, it will act without regard to preceived reputation and posture itself 'as if' an enemy of The West.

President Obama is going to have to harness peace initiatives with not only countries like Iran and North Korea, but, Europe as well. The initative will have to dictate a purging of all definitions of 'past relationships' with Russia and find new ways to remove the posturing.

NATO war games hinder U.S.-Russia ties, Putin says (click here)

By Guy Faulconbridge
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin warned in an interview published on Sunday that NATO military exercises in Georgia did not help efforts to rebuild Moscow's relations with the United States.
Putin, speaking in an interview with Japanese media before a trip to Tokyo, said the NATO war games were a signal of support for the Georgian authorities which last week clashed with protesters demanding President Mikheil Saakashvili resign.
When asked about Washington's efforts to reset relations with Moscow, Putin said: "As to the NATO military exercises in Georgia, this is of course a signal in the other direction....

Russia doesn't have a choice to protect the people of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. It is forced into a posture of protector and opposition to The West. This is about the most foolish motive I have ever witnessed by NATO in conducting 'military exercises' in the face of a Georgian government known to have killed its own people with overwhelming and unmerciful force.

In the same method, Prime Minister Putin hasn't formalize the efforts by Russia with these two 'estates' before the UN. BUT. Russia, being Russia, doesn't have to.

Zyuganov Would Like Moscow to Annex Abkhazia, South Ossetia (click here)

The leader of the Russian Communist Party said in Strasbourg last week that in his view, it would be “desirable” if Moscow were to annex Abkhazia and South Ossetia, an opinion several Russian commentators said reflected the thinking of many in the upper reaches of the government of the Russian Federation.
Speaking to Georgian journalists on the sidelines of a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) last week, Gennady Zyuganov, leader of the KPRF, said that “history does not turn backwards” and that Moscow will “not back away from [its] recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia” (www.rusk.ru/newsdata.php?idar=182666).
And then he added that if it were up to him, “I would conduct a referendum and would include Abkhazia and South Ossetia within Russia,” a comment that was posted on the KPRF website last Thursday (kprf.ru/international/66074.html) and one that apparently reflects the generally unexpressed views of many in Moscow.
In reporting Zyuganov’s remarks, the Russkaya Liniya portal -- a Russian Orthodox site with close ties to the Russian government and statist Russian nationalists -- asked several of its regular contacts for their comments about the possibility of such a move, one that would send shockwaves not only in those two breakaway republics but across the post-Soviet space as well....

Europe and NATO is so "W"rong here its a darn shame. NATO went forward with its 'military exercise' because, '...you know how it is...you just can't let Russia believe they have the upper hand... and where after all would Europe be without the 'New Berlin Wall' of Former Soviet States.

Amazing.

In a recent assessment of the 'near border' nations of the USA, Secretary Clinton noted there is increased influence by Iran and China. The USA is compromised due to the hostile actions of the Bush/Cheney Administration. I can't believe NATO has been this stupid.

The legacy weather pattern of 2009 - Human Induced Global Warming Tornadoes

May 8, 2009

I haven't looked at many news stations regarding these dynamics to alert people to their impending peril. I have to admit, the 'striving' to protect lives is admirable. There is somewhat of a 'missing' piece and that is '...nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.'

Some of the communities 'practice' tornado drills and sirens, however, the people of these states, including North Carolina, don't seem to have 'good mind maps' to know where to 'shelter' themselves when tornadoes are looming. I just hate it that folks have no tornado shelters. I mean, even Dorothy and Todo knew where to go to protect from a tornado, she took too much time to get there.

I congratulate the media that strives to protect lives. The dedication is admirable.

Noted on this stationary image is a heat transfer system extending from the Equator to south of Greenland with a very turbulent vortex conducting the movement of a severe weather system.

This PATTERN has been consistent from the end of March, 2009. The arctic air is forced down around Earth to meet up with heat transfer systems which change the 'air' dynamics over the Arctic Ocean. The 'hot tropical air' displaced the colder, denser air at the planet surface to lower latitudes. This 'consistent' presence of this dynamic for this long is new. So long as these dynamics continue, the tornadoes will continue to form and menace the populous.

There is some turbulence at the Equator between Africa and South America (noted on the 'Real Time Satellite Tracking' at title to entry.) That turbulence could be the beginnings of burgeoning hurricanes. Hurricanes would cause a change in dynamics in the troposphere and this 'consistent' pattern of tornadoes could and most likely would change.

Has there been a day yet, without tornadoes? I think I left off a couple of weeks ago with daily tornadoes except for one. Has it improved?

Doubt it. Link at title to entry shows a very turbulent Earth.

County, city declare states of emergency
Ronica Shannon and Brian
One person was killed Friday near KY 1295 in the Kirksville area as a result of severe storms that moved through Madison County, and a second person was missing in the same area, police said.
Trooper Chris Lanham, public information officer for Kentucky State Police Post 7 in Richmond, could not release details about the death, but said it was related to the storm.
“It looks like at least one tornado came through Garrard and Madison counties,” Lanham said.
A canine unit from the Richmond Police Department was assisting with the search, said Sgt. Willard Reardon, RPD public information officer.
The rain did not let up Friday evening for the many local emergency officials who responded to two possible tornado touchdowns within the county. The storm, which came through at shortly after 5 p.m., caused several residents to be trapped inside severely damaged homes, as well as substantial damage to Richmond Fire Station No. 5 on Enterprise Drive, among many other reports. Three firefighters were inside the building when the storm struck, and the windshield of one fire truck was shattered, according to Richmond City Manager David Evans, who surveyed the damage from outside.
Insulation from the fire station’s roof could be seen snared in tree limbs along US 25 at least a quarter of a mile away....

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Wednesday's E-F2 tornado caused heavy damage in parts of Madison County.

The storms blew up so quickly, forecasters had only minutes to send out warnings.

Some residents say they didn't hear the weather sirens sound. The ones near Madison and Limestone County were activated, but the weather was so intense it was hard to hear them sound.

An E-F2 tornado spotted in Morgan and Limestone County quickly intensified as it approached Madison.

"It didn't look that impressive but then for about a 5 minute span it intensified it went away," said WAFF-48 Chief Meteorologist Brad Travis....

ASHEVILLE – A tornado? Isn't that something that happens in Kansas?

While twisters are relatively rare in the mountains, topography doesn't entirely protect the region from the violent storms, as a tornado warning issued Wednesday morning showed.

The region was lucky, as a line of storms passed through without spinning off a dangerous tornado or doing much damage.

“Oftentimes, the mountains are detrimental to the formation of the thunderstorms that can form tornadoes, but it's certainly still possible to have tornadoes across Western North Carolina,” said Blair Holloway, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service inGreer,S.C....

The Bush Policy regarding Polar Bears is bogus. The 'backbone' to the ESA, IS and has been restoration and protection of habitat.

To allow The Salazar Interior Department to turn its back on restoration of habitat for Polar Bears, by neglecting the regulation of greenhouse gases as a methodology to reverse the trend of the destruction of the Arctic Ocean Ice, is a very DANGEROUS precedent.

It cannot be allowed to stand! It panders to 'special interest groups' with big bank rolls, such as Halliburton and the oil companies that have never concerned themselves with the best interest of any species and have impinged upon Human Rights in places like Nigeria.

...The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced a grant of $500,000 for the Table Rocks purchase from funds dedicated to the acquisition of vital habitat for threatened and endangered plants and animals. Of the 1,710 acres, 450 acres are designated by the Service as critical habitat for the vernal pool fairy shrimp....

Federal funds available to protect working farms (click here)
Thursday, May 7, 2009
BANGOR — Juan Hernandez, state conservationist for the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in Maine, has announced that the agency has up to $1.4 million available through the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP)."This program helps ensure that valuable, productive land is protected," said Hernandez. "The funds will be used to purchase conservation easements to limit conversion of farmland to non-agricultural uses." NRCS will accept FRPP proposals from interested state, tribal, and local governments and non-governmental organizations until June 5. For those proposals selected for funding, NRCS will enter into an agreement to support efforts to protect soils and historical and archaeological sites. NRCS provides up to 50 percent of the appraised fair market value of the conservation easement. All funds will be awarded to the highest ranked eligible parcels through a statewide, competitive process. Additional information may be obtained online at
www.me.nrcs.usda.gov or by contacting Programs Manager Bill Yamartino at 207-990-9553.

The Obama Stimulus will not fail. It supports profoundly American Values including The Family Farm. The USE of the stimulus bill is very diversified. There is no way it will fail, because, it is supported by development of all walks of life in the USA. All these funds translate into jobs and/or private entrepreneurship with tax income for the country and states. It supports every aspect of an economy. It is one of the most 'richly diverse' and supportive legislation in the country's history. Of course, every American Family Farm receiving support is a 'green initative' as Family Farms are far more efficient with environmentally friendly land stewardship.

Salazar can't separate greenhouse gases from Polar Bears. It is pure moronity to believe they are separate issues. LAW SUITS !!!!

Hey, Salazar, see if you can follow this, son !!!

Greenhouse Gas = Human Induced Global Warming.

Got that much?

Human Induced Global Warming = melting Arctic Ocean Sea Ice.

Right? Right.

Stay with me now, this is the tough part.

The Polar Bears? You know the critters protected by the Endangered Species Act? I know you know bears. The big white ones. The ones that have a paw the size of a human face. You know the ones I am talking about?

Okay. They live on sea ice. When the sea ice is gone? They die. Really, no lie. These bears are great swimmers and are considered a Marine Mammal, which brings in The Marine Mammal Protection Act by the way, but, when they swim ALL THE TIME because there is no sea ice to 'rest' on they die. Lose body weight, hence insulation to the frigid waters and they die.

Hard concept to get your mind around, but, I have confidence in you.

Now, the real challenge to all this is that I agree, the USA needs to legislate the Carbon Dioxide issue that we sprew at 25% of all polluters. Definately needs 'autonomous' legislation, HOWEVER, that does not mean greenhouse gases are separated from Polar Bears and their survival. Not at all. As a matter of fact, the legislature that covers CO2 also needs to addresss METHANE, too. All greenhouse gases.

If I was a Polar Bear, I would definately expect the USA to regulate ALL greehouse gases that are KIILING me and my kids.

Got that!

Now. About those leases that are against our sovereign best interest. I really don't care if the 'budget' is a little 'out of wack' because the leases are pulled. We have a RIGHT to a sane USA. That simply means the new Treasury Secretary needs to sharpen his pencil a little more.

Oh, yeah. You can resign if you like. No problem.

Knock it Off ! What are people doin'. This is probably one of the most appropriately beautiful pictures we'll ever have of the Statue of Liberty.

Mr. Caldera, we'll miss you. (click here)

I am not the least bit surprised the photo op was not annouced to the public. It is after all AIR FORCE ONE.

We have these kind of exercises all the time over Wilmington International Airport. They practice 'touch downs' and emergency procedures and the plane is always accompanied by jet fighters.

Give me a break already. These are necessary exercises and if they decided to take pictures this time, then it was because these costs were already figured into the military budget. The ONLY 'real cost' to the USA was the fuel and that's all.

It is unfortunate people were alarmed, but, with the plane being Air Force One, I am not surprised there was no formal notification of the public. What if the military made the exception of notifying the public 'this time' and there was some kind of error and one day the information was released regarding the airplane when the President was actually in it. I am confident the policy exists that protects the movement of any Air Force One.

Hello, America. Are we still allowoing Osama bin Laden to plague our realities? Who is the real enemy here? It isn't the White House. You mean people weren't ooing and awing at the site of President Obama's plane and wondering if he was making a surprise visit? That is a shame.

An Air Force presidential aircraft, part of the fleet used by U.S. presidents, is pictured above the Statue of Liberty in New York, in this photograph released to Reuters on May 8, 2009. White House military aide Louis Caldera, who authorized an Air Force flyover of New York that caused panic among some New Yorkers there, resigned on Friday.
REUTERS/The White House/Handout

People don't understand what this was all about? The crown to the Statue of Liberty is opening on July 4th. What a beautiful idea for New York to have a new image of its city in the year 2009. A symbol of freedom instead of the nightmare of a terrorist attack. I don't believe that man resigned over this.

I've heard it all now.

This country was falling apart at the seams when President Obama came into office and this is the one pickable incident the Republicans can make a fuss over. Honestly !

This is a new administration simply trying to satisfy the needs of the administration.

...Caldera had approved the mission. His resignation came on the same day Defense Secretary Robert Gates said in a letter to Senator John McCain that the photo shoot cost U.S. taxpayers as much as $357,000....

He has nothing else to do except pick on a Presidential aid that was simply doing his job. It isn't as though this is the 'FIRST' set of photo ops that ever were done. Bush USED the flights over the '9-11 site' as a campaign uptick. This is ridiculous already. Big achievement for John McCann, he harassed a Presidential aid to resign over a photo to uplife the image of New York City.

McCann should join Jeb Bush, the next Republican Presidential hopeful, on his LISTENING TOUR rather than diving into a 'Complaining Campaign.' Not bad, Jeb Bush gets to run a 'exploratory' campaign without paying a dime.

...Romney and Bush both downplayed their own political ambitions. Bush, who earlier this year declined to run for Florida’s open Senate seat, said he was glad to be out of the political arena and is now focused on brainstorming policy ideas — and he expressed his frustration that most politics in Washington are “defined by a food fight.”...

A food fight. Real nice. The President is trying to find in roads to bring the Republicans out of their grudge match and now ANOTHER Bush calls everything a food fight. We don't need this. We didn't need 'Contract with America' either !

Why wealth merchants are so dangerous. Whether Mike Moore wants the 'crown' or not, he has inherited the legacy of what ails capitalism run amok.

For centuries the 'government/ruling class' have dictated 'the state of affairs' of the populous. Wealth merchants are the basis of Wall Street. To die for power occurred under Bush when the American markets became 'monotone' to product availability.

...The stories I hear are pretty much the same(click here), with a few variations to allow for the pink-slipped brother who committed suicide, or the mother who lost her life savings when the pension fund went belly-up. I have heard so many of these stories that I can fill in the blanks before the sentences are finished. I find myself doing this to keep from sinking into an even greater despair.
It is not pleasant when a homeless person actually knows you and calls out, "Hey, Mike!" as you are trying to walk quickly past him and his shopping cart. This happened to me on 46th Street in New York City in front of the Paramount Hotel. I was with a vice president of NBC and the producers of my show "TV Nation." The homeless man grabbed my hand for a shake and told me he, too, was from Flint, Michigan, but now lives here on the street.
He wanted to describe his favorite part of Roger & Me, which he had seen three years ago when he had a job. While the NBC executive was watching in disbelief, I'm thinking to myself ... I know this guy!
"You remember me, don't you?" he asked. "I used to deliver your newspaper, the Flint Voice."...

One of the reasons the American Auto Manufacturer failed is because they never concentrated on Americans. They made products Americans didn't want, but, settled for simply because that was what was provided. While failing to accommodate their 'best' consumers they sought hope for their industry abroad, expanding their kingdoms and entering into hideous debt. So, today, the American Auto Industry is virtually in ruins, with the exception of Ford which had the 'luck' of investing in liquid capital when it was cheap, thus avoiding government bailout funds.

The survival of JP Morgan was due to its hulking size alone. In the case of Goldman Sachs, it survives inspite of its overt and frank failure, because of the manipulation of its 'influence' though a marketing strategy based in 'out sourcing' its well indoctrinated and trained executives.

This type of 'power' is not only scary for its control of the outcome of American entitlements and sovereignty of its government, but, imposes an overlay to the populous and the allowance of its values as reflected in its market place. This type of consumerism is a form of harassment to 'instill' values rather than 'reflect' values. No different than the profits of Columbus in 1492 when he reported to Queen Isabella the discovery of a new land and its new products and potential for consumerism; the American consumer is 'locked into' the dictates of Wall Street.

Is this benign and good for us OR is it the most harmful venues of product availability that actually harnesses democracy in a manner of servatude? Part of what we are seeing in this economic collapse is the failure of this form of consumerism and its vast effect on a globally vital economy.

We need our companies and corporations when producing a product such as a car due to the large need of capital investment, however, when the markets demand 'change' and it is not forthcoming are we open to a 'sentence' of frustration and political jocking in order to 'enforce' the change that should have occurred within the definitions of 'capitalism.'

Therefore we as Americans concerned with our futures and those of our children have to be left with the answer that 'capitalism' as 'allowed' by Conservatives simply doesn't work. So, therefore, can government ever disappear? Can taxes ever be reduced to only support a military? Can companies ever dominate the resources of the USA without 'control/regulations' by government? When is government too big and when is it grossly insufficient?

No different than Isabella that found genius in the idea of a brave Columbus to find better routes to the West Indies a government has to see the future and act on it with confidence and commitment.

So, how do we find 'value' in consumerism that benefits us and our high moral content? High moral content that incorporates all venues of our lives other than just a 'good time' on Saturday Night. How do we prevent now and in the future such damage to our lifestyles? Where does 'the control' to protect our futures, promises and entitlements come from and how do we make Wall Street work for us rather than just supplying 'dirt cheap' lives that provide an existance above proverty level taking away the American Dream and promise of a happy retirement? Is our Constitution sufficient in its venues of authority to actually protect the people of the USA or do we have grossly deficient laws without enforcement capacity to 'stabilize' our lifestyles and promises?

I propose the USA Constitution and its laws are sufficient to provide incredible venues of control to protect the lives of Americans. There are laws of anti-trust and they should be used on a regular basis to 'break' the log jam of bad business strategies that entangle the American people in values alien to their 'national moral content.' When conglomerates are 'enforcers' of impoverishment there needs to be actions to relieve Americans 'learned understanding' of what life is all about.

We once lived in a 'day' when people were able to secure their best outcomes in life with a good lifestyle plan. We lived in a 'day' when promise to security was a reality and not an illusion. We lived in a 'day' when our scientists were respected and revered for the investment our nation placed in them to carry out a 'path of security and hope' for our country.

When government becomes oppressive and enforces that oppression of our moral content and wishes for our best outcomes and those of our children through 'Wall Street' abuses; we need to attack the mechanism of our entrapment and seek to break down corporate havens of power while returning promise to the American economy.

The Conservatives of the 'opposite' party complain about the current spending habits of the adminisration we need to ask ourselves if 'downsizing' government that began with Reagan was actually an 'investment' into the economic collapse that resulted by the reinvention of Reagan by "W." If the American people weren't blind sided by its inability to grasp what Reagan did to its moral content back in the day when an 'economic cushion' hid all the damage and deficits were easily accommodated we would not be facing the issues of today.

The new government elected in 2008 is necessary to reestablish the moral content of the USA in its 'status' in the world. It is easy and cheap to build 'personal reward' within a 'society' to base it in a theocracy. It is not 'cheap' to build a government that reacts to the moral content of a nation in a way that protects its capitalism democracy. The people of the USA have to come to terms with the 'lack' of its moral content since Reagan and accept how its government has to work to insure its future and promise of all its 'quality.'

It is far more prudent to build a better America than continue to pander to 'cheap' answers to enforcing and upholding the moral content of this nation. We can't allow any of this to happen again and I refuse to believe we have to accept Wall Street on its own definition without the ability to thwart its 'worsening' impact on our soveriegn nation. Dear God, they could have destroyed us !

Homeless NO More !

Downsize This ! Where did all the jobs go?

The economy as it exists today doesn't allow for healthy competition. It doesn't give consumers across the spectrum of needs, wants and desires multiple venues of opportunity. There are huge multi-naitonal corporations that 'service' the USA in a cafeteria style consumerism.

I think it goes unsaid that banks have monopolized viable alternatives to any fiscal venue causing limited answers to the economic collapse that resulted from eight years of Conservative indulgence of cronies. It gave life to the expression, "The Bigger thay are the Harder they Fall."

The American public, especially its entrepreneurs, are trapped in death defying acts of Overstock and Black Fridays to survive fiscally within their own lives. Across the board small businesses can't compete with conglomerates with headquarters in foreign lands. The mass produced reality of the American people is as foreign to its landscape as the banks that lend to them.

There needs to be Anti-Trust suits across the board in order to releave the American consumer from 'dirt cheap lifestyles and paychecks' and return the rewards of 'quality' achieved through savings and lifestyle planning. We have to move away from 'unidimension' lifestyles where everyone has the same dish pattern and the same towel design. This isn't the USA, this is the subculture of a global economy seeking 'sameism' and consumer poverty to guarantee their future.

They have to be disbanded while the unemployed find their footing in opportunity presented by open markets.

It would seem as through Mr. Friedman is going home since Goldman Sachs passed the Stress Test.

No more money. There is nothing like throwing good money after bad. I do believe The Fed released $1,000,000,000,000 not more than a month or so ago. So what's the problem? I want Anti-Trust Suits and I want them now !!!

Stephen Friedman

When is something going to be done about the conflict of interest with Paulson that lead the nation into ruin in order to save his company? There is no way these people should be walking away from these events unscathed. This is simply outrageous. There isn't another word.

They are all so very, very noble. "The Federal Reserve System has important work to do and does not need this distraction," Friedman said." My, my so self depricating. Poor man, so distraught he can't live with the reality he propagated. Why weren't there Anti-Trust Lawsuits Filed?

NY Fed chair resigns amid stock purchase questions
May 7 2009 8:30PM EDT
By Kristina Cooke
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stephen Friedman, chairman of the New York Federal Reserve Bank's board of directors, resigned on Thursday amid questions about his purchases of stock in his former firm, Goldman Sachs.
Friedman, a retired chairman of Goldman Sachs who has led the New York Fed's board since January 2008, said he quit to prevent criticism about his stock buying from becoming a distraction as the Fed battles a severe U.S. recession.
"Although I have been in compliance with the rules, my public service motivated continuation on the Reserve Bank Board is being mischaracterized as improper," he said in a letter of resignation to New York Fed President William Dudley.
"The Federal Reserve System has important work to do and does not need this distraction," Friedman said....

For the first time in USA History, Earth is taking priority. Indeed President Obama is in the White House.

(As a side note: There are also issues of sovereignty regarding all the current leases with the Interior Department and I would encourage Secretary Salazar to review the leases that remove USA assets to foreign trade. In particular, the Alaskan oil and gas fields currently in use are primarily exported, regardless of the pipeline and land belonging to Americans. Any current use of drilling for oil and gas is 'billed' to the American public as commodities that will facilitate their lives and lifestyles. That is not the case. Exploitation of American resources should not include exporting to other nations. The military purpose, now and in the furture, for such resources, is enough to declare all halts to exportation of any American resources and a recall to all leases including coal bed methane.)

At the EPA, Lisa Jackson is carving a way to apply the 'best science' to Human Induced Global Warming. She is wasting no time to institute policies when facts are obvious and attainable. She is making way for 'safe energy' as well as just 'alternative energy.'

There is a lot 'missing' in the production of ethanol that will insure it is applied in a manner that reduces carbon dioxide emissions and I applaud her for the concentrated effort to perfection she is aiming. I encourage all scientists to submit any and all data that will help the EPA to formulate policy that will truly make 'ethanol' and 'biodiesel' better alternatives to oil and gas.

Currently, companies in the USA are not only producing ethanol they are exporting it. THAT defeats the purpose of ethanol and biodiesel. The 'best practices' for these fuels are to be produced, synthesized and marketed locally. In exporting ethanol, the transportation fuel adds to the overall global deposit of CO2

...The Environmental Protection Agency's proposed regulations are designed to curtail greenhouse gas emissions blamed for climate change and to make sure that alternative fuels, such as ethanol or biodiesel, do not have indirect effects, such as deforestation in other countries, that could inadvertently increase levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. But the administration did not take a position on key regulatory issues, instead inviting comment from scientific experts and businesses on how to measure carbon emissions from the full lifecycle of biofuels, from land use to fertilizer to manufacturing process to delivery. EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson also said that existing corn ethanol distilleries or ones under construction would probably be "grandfathered," or exempt from the new regulations. Jackson's statement blunted criticism, especially from corn-based ethanol producers that have been targeted for competing with food crops and for using substantial amounts of fertilizer in fields and fossil fuels in distilleries. In a telephone call with reporters yesterday, Jackson said the administration wanted to make sure that its final rule on renewable fuels is "informed by the best science."

Previous to taking office as Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar backed the very controversial nomination of Gail Norton, however, since taking office within the Interior Department he has shown to be an ally to the American people in reclaiming not just their country, but, a 'safety zone' for their country on Earth.

Interior revokes Bush rule on endangered species (click title to entry - thank you)
April 29, 2009
It's getting to be old-hat. Following up on an earlier promise, US President Barack Obama has formally reversed yet another of his predecessor's policies, this one focusing on the institutional role of science in protecting endangered species (AP).
The rule in question was targeted at the so-called "Section 7 consultations" under the Endangered Species Act. Current regulations require the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or the National Marine Fisheries Service to review all projects involving federal government for potential impacts to endangered species. The Bush administration's rule would have allowed other federal agencies to skip that review process if their own experts determined that it wasn't necessary.
In theory, such a system might improve things on the front end. The idea is that other federal agencies would have an incentive to integrate biology into the planning process rather than simply passing the environmental review to Fish and Wildlife, which comes in on the tail end and tries to straighten things out. For those worried about whether these initial agency reviews would be sufficient, the argument goes, lawsuits remain as a critical backstop.
But many environmentalists feared the administration was simply seeking to undercut environmental law. And indeed, the rule included language that would have given a default green light to any project if certain permitting schedules weren't met, a policy that naturally puts agencies on the defensive against eager business interests.
Environmentalists roundly hailed the Interior Department's decision but suggested that the administration could have gone a step further and eliminated a special rule that accompanied the Polar Bear's listing as a threatened species. That rule basically says that the Endangered Species Act cannot be used to block or shut down, say, coal-fired power plants in Arizona, even if those facilities would increase greenhouse gas emissions that would enhance global warming, melt more sea ice and therefore endanger the polar bear.
Seems like the ESA might not be the best place to regulate greenhouse gases, but we'll have to wait and see how that question plays out. Reuters quoted a Fish and Wildlife official saying that the administration plans to make a determination on that rule next month.

Yucca Mountain was the worst idea anyone had for the definitive nuclear waste dump. The fuel rods are an issue and they should be. There is no easy or quick answer to nuclear waste or nuclear reactors. For the first time in the history of the USA we may be acting to move beyond 'contrived manmade' methods to energy such as coal and nuclear and into a venue of harnessing the gifts Earth has in wind and solar to actually 'live on' Earth and 'with' Earth as a method of harmony rather than 'imposing human will' and expecting a finite planet to yield. Nuclear waste as 'an issue' forces the energy sector to come to the realization it is old, antiquiated and hostile toward life.

Funding cut for US nuclear waste dump

Some ten billion dollars and two decades into the project, the proposed US nuclear waste dump at Nevada's Yucca Mountain has hit a major and possibly decisive stumbling block: President Barack Obama has proposed eliminating all funding for scientific research on the deep-rock repository, 140 kilometres northwest of Las Vegas. As Yucca Mountain has been the United States' only potential long-term repository since 1987, the decision once again raises the issue of what to do with the country's high-level nuclear waste.

Safe Nuclear Power and Clean Coal Technology is like a Healthy Cigarette, it doesn't exist. The technologies and energy indulgences of the early 1900s where humans configured mechanisms for 'producing' energy have proven to be some of the most impossible 'safety' issues faced by any government of any people. There is no reason to continue to indulge industries that cannot solve their own problems, costing billions US annually without results or reasonable answers. When an industry fails to operate within manageable parameters to cost and burden to taxpayers there is serious implications to end the DEPENDENCE on such indulgences.

An injured Afghan child from the Bala Baluk, district of Afghanistan, is seen on a bed at the hospital in Farah province of Afghanistan Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Abdul Basir Khan, a member of Farah's provincial council, said villagers brought some 30 bodies, including women and children, to Farah city to show the province's governor, that they had been killed by coalition airstrikes. Estimates of the total number of dead varied widely, and no officials were able to travel to Bala Baluk on Tuesday because the region is so dangerous. The top U.S. spokesman in Afghanistan, Col. Greg Julian, confirmed U.S. coalition forces participated in the battle. Julian said several wounded Afghans sought medical treatment at a military base in Farah, but officials were still investigating the reports of civilian deaths. (AP APhoto/Abdul Malek)

...(click title to entry - thank you) Afghan President Hamid Karzai ordered a probe Wednesday into the killings, and the U.S. military sent a brigadier general to Farah to head a U.S. investigation, said Col. Greg Julian, a U.S. spokesman. Afghan military and police officials were also part of the investigative team.

Karzai, currently in the United States, will raise the issue of civilian deaths with Obama, a statement from Karzai's office said. The two presidents were scheduled to hold their first face-to-face meeting later Wednesday....

Joint Counter Narco-Terrorism Successes in Afghanistan (click here)
By Michael Braun
NBC Nightly News reported yesterday evening (May 4, 2009) on a successful counter narco-terrorism operation involving U.S. Army Special Forces working shoulder-to-shoulder with a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Foreign-deployed Advisory and Support Team (FAST), Afghan Army Commandos and Counter-Narcotics Police/Afghanistan (CNPA) officers. Notice that I used the term 'counter narco-terrorism operation' rather than 'counter-narcotics operation', because in Afghan virtually every aspect of the drug trade is unequivocally linked to the Taliban and the insurgency....

Gates reluctant to build up US forces in Afghanistan beyond 68,000 (click here)
WASHINGTON: US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said orders to deploy more than the 68,000 US troops to Afghanistan "would be a hard sell, " according to interview excerpts released late Friday. "It would be a hard sell. There’s no question about it," Gates said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN set to air on Sunday.
Gates responded to President Barack Obama’s approved plan to double the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 68,000 by the end of the year, in addition to the 32,000 assisting NATO troops from other countries. The top US Commander in Afghanistan, Army General David McKiernan had requested an extra 10,000 troops be deployed by 2010, to which Gates expressed reservations.
"Between the American military commitment and our coalition partners, we will have about 100,000 troops in Afghanistan. That’s only about 10,000 shy of what the Russians had and I think we need to think about that," Gates said in the interview excerpt.
Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell confirmed that Gates’ comments in the CNN interview reflected his concerns about moving beyond the approved 68, 000-troop level. "My view is that it would be a far better investment to focus on building the strength of the Afghan army and the Afghan police, making sure that of the numbers of people we have there, there are adequate trainers so that we can accelerate the growth of those forces," he said

Suffolk donates used bulletproof vests to Army unit in Afghanistan
7:53 PM EDT, May 5, 2009
Bulletproof vests that have exceeded their recommended life spans for use as personal protection will be donated to the military for use in Afghanistan - where they will line floors, doors and windows of military vehicles as an added layer of protection, Suffolk officials said Tuesday.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and the county legislature authorized the donation and the presentation of 660 decommissioned vests at Police Headquarters in Yaphank. The vests should no longer be used as "personal body armor," officials said. However, they can save lives on the battlefield when soldiers use them to reinforce military vehicles.

A Suffolk resident and Suffolk police sergeant, Lt. Col. Matthew Bjelobrk, is head of the Army command in southern Afghanistan that will receive the vests. Members of the Air National Guard 142nd Aviation Brigade were to load the vests Tuesday onto a transport truck for shipment to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.

Talibanisation & Musharraf (click here)
By Shehryar Mazari Wednesday, 06 May, 2009

09:56 AM PST

Three decades ago Zia Haq chose the Hezb-i-Islami leader, Gulbadin Hikmatyar, as his favoured successor to Soviet rule in Afghanistan. After Zia’s death, the security establishment disenchanted with Hikmatyar’s lack of success replaced him in 1994 with the recently discovered Taliban. The Taliban’s seizure of Kabul in 1996 provided a boost for Pakistan’s security establishment. It provided Pakistan a foothold in Afghanistan and much-desired strategic regional depth to counter India.
Following the 9/11 attack in the US by Al Qaeda which was being sheltered by the Taliban Musharraf was forced to disown the Taliban regime. However, within days he announced on TV ‘I have done everything for the … Taliban when the whole world was against them….We are trying our best to come out of this critical situation without any damage to Afghanistan and the Taliban.’
Shortly afterwards, when the Taliban were ousted by the US-led invasion, Musharraf allowed tens of thousands of Taliban to enter Pakistan’s tribal belt, believing that opposing them would sideline Pakistan from the regional power game in Afghanistan. What was not revealed then was that a large number of Al Qaeda militants had used this opportunity to stealthily move into Pakistan as well. However, fearing direct US intervention, Musharraf vocally denied their existence within Pakistan....

AFGHANISTAN: Thousands affected by floods, landslides, earthquakes (click here)

KABUL, 29 April 2009 (IRIN) - Flash floods, landslides and earthquakes in different parts of Afghanistan in the last 10 days or so have damaged thousands of houses, killed hundreds of livestock and made thousands homeless, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said.

At least 15 people lost their lives and over a dozen of others were injured by floods in Herat, Badakhshan, Parwan, Faryab and Takhar provinces over the past two weeks, according to the Afghanistan National Disasters Management Authority (ANDMA).

Over 2,000 families were also affected by floods in Herat Province, (western Afghanistan); about 800 families were hit in Badghis Province (northwestern Afghanistan); and hundreds more were affected in several other provinces, Henry said....

The primary problem with Hamid Karzai's running mate is his death wish. If Mohammad Qasim Fahim comes into power due to assassination of Karzai it will probably have occurred as a coup. I think President Karzai is setting himself up for assassination. It seems completely obvious to me.

Mohammad Qasim Fahim has never been a man of peace. He is regressive and was once removed by Karzai in a military position years ago. I believe the powerful presence of Fahim at this point in time, when Karzai only recently selected to run for re-election shows exactly where the country was headed did the USA NOT re-engage the issue and re-engage it redefined to include the Taliban in Pakistan.

Afghanistan was headed for certain rule by the warlords at the pleasure of the Taliban. Al Qaeda, minimally Mullah Omar was on the cusp of taking over the influence of the entire region with designs on Pakistan's nuclear capacity. I am sorry for the civilian losses, but, the balance of power in the region hangs by a thread and the people need to ally the USA and NATO to gain peace in their provinces.

This is much larger than Afghanistan or Pakistan together, there is a real threat to nuclear war with minimally India should these two nations not be stabilized. Karzai needs to completely reject the influence of The Taliban and find a suitable running mate the people of Afghanistan can love and trust.

Karzai's choice of running mate raises concerns in the West (click here)
Jon Boone in Kabul

May 6, 2009
DIPLOMATS and human rights workers lashed out at Hamid Karzai's decision to select a powerful warlord accused by Western officials of involvement in criminal gangs and arms smuggling as a running mate in Afghanistan's presidential election.
Mr Karzai's decision to defy international pressure and appoint Mohammad Qasim Fahim as one of his two vice-presidential candidates for the August 20 poll showed the world and the Afghan people that the President was "moving the country backwards", said a Western diplomat in Kabul.
Mr Karzai made his announcement on Monday when he went to the Independent Election Commission in person to register as a candidate, hours before leaving for meetings in Washington with President Barack Obama and Pakistan's President, Asif Ali Zardari.
The former militia leader, who goes by the honorary title of Marshal Fahim, is disliked by many Afghans suspicious of the wealth he has acquired since 2001 and disliked by the West for his opposition to the disbandment of the private armies of Afghanistan's warlords. An official with an international mission in Kabul said Mr Fahim had been linked to kidnap gangs operating in the capital. He is also accused of murdering prisoners of war during the mujahideen government in the 1990s....
