The delisting of the Yellowstone Bear lacks insight to it's future.

The whitebark pine (click here) and the Clark’s Nutcracker are evolutionary soul mates that help hold an ecosystem together. At high elevations in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem, whitebark pines depend entirely on nutcrackers to disperse their seeds. The pine nuts contain more calories than butter and provide food for more than 100 species, including (counterclockwise from bottom left) red squirrel, chipmunk, Cassin’s Finch, grizzly bear, Mountain Chickadee, and Hairy Woodpecker. Whitebark pines are also pioneers in mountain clearings and act as nurse trees (pictured center left) for spruces and firs to grow up. Illustration by Misaki Ouchida, Bartels Science Illustration Intern.

...WHITNEY: Dan Ashe is the director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. (click here)

ASHE: The population is fully recovered, and we need to recognize that and let the Endangered Species Act work on other species that need its protections.

WHITNEY: But other wildlife biologists look at the evidence and come to a different conclusion.

DAVID MATTSON: I think if you put a little magnification on Livingston Peak, it makes everything pretty darn clear.

WHITNEY: David Mattson hands me a pair of binoculars to point out what he says is a big problem for bears and the government's plans to remove their Endangered Species Act protections. He's spent more than 20 years studying Yellowstone's grizzlies, especially what they eat.

MATTSON: And what you're going to see, if the focus is right for you...

WHITNEY: A lot of dead trees.

MATTSON: A lot of dead trees. All of those are whitebark pine.

WHITNEY: Whitebark pine trees are at the heart oft he fight over protecting Yellowstone's grizzlies. Despite their reputation as ferocious killers, grizzlies here have long relied on seeds from whitebark pine trees as a primary food source, and climate change is wiping out the trees. A federal appellate court said the Fish and Wildlife Service failed to account for the loss of whitebark pine in 2005, the last time the agency tried to take these bears off the endangered species list.

Mattson says climate change is diminishing other important grizzly food sources, too. That means bears are roaming farther and taking more risks, feeding on things like elk and domestic cattle. And that, he says, means more bear encounters with ranchers and big-game hunters. More encounters usually means more dead bears. But the Fish and Wildlife Service says Yellowstone's grizzly population is robust enough to adapt to new food sources and survive....
Lake Vostok (click here) in Antarctica has been in place since it's first discovery in 1959. It is actually 1600 feet below sea level. It is closed off to the Circumpolar Ocean  (The East and West Wind Drifts) surrounding Antarctica.

The distinctive feature of Lake Vostok is the smooth as glass appearance at the top of the ice. The ice in Antarctica flows. Regardless, of it's movement the section moving over the lake always remains without a ripple. Lake Vostok is liquid because of the pressure of the ice above it which includes 3769 meters. It has the purest water in the world.

When the Russians reached the lake they were met with enormous pressure that refroze the drill hole. The reports of life in that lake begins with this:

The issue with Greenland is very different. There are innumerable entries about the Greenland ice on this blog. NASA takes pictures regularly and measures what is called 'the meander' of the glacier. Greenland Ice, like Antarctica, sits a top land and it's base is frozen into those dips in the landscape, but, every Spring with top melt water from the sun, there is a hydraulic effect and the glacier floats and meanders over the land.

If there are glacial lakes under the Greenland Ice, it is not due to pressure of the ice above so much as the hydraulic effect of the melt water. The water mass is probably greater this Spring than any other.

The graph to the right shows the season's beginning. It is not good news.

The Greenland ice sheet (click here) is the largest body of permanent ice in the Northern Hemisphere. Climate Change is happening swiftly in the Arctic, and consequently it is causing rapid and relentless melting of the sheet from both above (Albedo or dark ice) and below the ice due to warming ocean temperatures as well as large volumes of warm melt water at the bedrock). Most of us know that this run away melting is raising sea levels across the Globe. The hydrologic system of the Greenland ice sheet is extremely complex and there has been little data about how it works for some time. Slowly we are beginning to solve some  mysteries.
Each summer, the hydrological system becomes activated as massive amounts of melt water produced on its surface, evaporates into the atmosphere, percolates into partially formed layers of ice, and feeds runoff into supraglacial lakes (a lake formed on top of the ice sheet), streams and rivers to the ice sheet margins.
Recently 2 sub-glacial lakes were discovered in Greenland. These lakes form below the ice and can stay unfrozen for decades. Particularly unusual is the fact that these lakes are associated with Antarctica and not the Arctic. They were unknown in Greenland until recently. The sub-glacial lake can be stable for decades, but can drain in one season and refill quickly with melt water from the surface....
Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)

They come in different formulas, but, the culprit in this greenhouse gas is sunlight and fluorine.

Fluorine has an atomic number 9 on the Periodic Chart of Chemicals. It has five electrons in it's outer shell and is highly reactive. Fluorine has the highest electronegativity of all the elements.

Fluorine (click here) is the most reactive of all elements and no chemical substance is capable of freeing fluorine from any of its compounds. For this reason, fluorine does not occur free in nature and was extremely difficult for scientists to isolate. The first recorded use of a fluorine compound dates to around 1670 to a set of instructions for etching glass that called for Bohemian emerald (CaF2). Chemists attempted to identify the material that was capable of etching glass and George Gore was able to produce a small amount of fluorine through an electrolytic process in 1869....

How many people knew their recycling was going to China?

September 18, 2013
By Jen Hayden

...China's demand for low-cost recycled raw materials (click here) has meant waste shipments from Europe, the US, Japan and Hong Kong have arrived thick and fast, with scrap becoming the top US export to China by value ($11.3bn) in 2011.
China controls a large portion of the recycling market, importing about 70% of the world's 500m tonnes of electronic waste and 12m tonnes of plastic waste each year. Sudden Chinese policy changes therefore have a significant impact on the global recycling trade, which puts pressure on western countries to reconsider their reliance on the cost-effective practice of exporting waste, a habit that's reinforced by a lack of domestic recycling infrastructure and a lower demand for secondary raw materials....

There needs to be a chain of custody to the recycling from recycling centers to final destination. People need to know these programs are effective and keeps the recycled items out of the oceans.

No more floating bundles of trash tumbling off the ships in the middle of the ocean.

Researchers (click here) are surprised that humans generate as much as 10 trillion pieces of plastic wastes the world over, and that about 5.25 trillion find their ways into oceans and rivers, and weigh as much as 269,000 tons to keep on floating across ocean surfaces.

The co-founder of 5 Gyres Institute, Dr. Marcus Eriksen, led a team of researchers aboard ships to scour the surfaces of oceans and collected thousands of plastic wastes among other discarded items like toys, bags, toothbrushes, bottles, disused fishing nets and buoys, and other floating trash and debris....

Imagine holding Planet Earth in the palm of your hand
With no regard for your place of birth or claim to any land
The only thing between us now is the truth we understand
If Planet Earth was in the palm of your hand

50 years from now what will they say about us here?
Did we care for the water and the fragile atmosphere?
There are only two kinds of folk and the difference they make
The ones that give and the ones that take

Just like the countless bodies that revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one
That caused it all to be and then we'll see His kingdom come
So shall it be written, shall be sung

Imagine you could rid the Earth of anyone you choose
Which ones would you need the most and which ones would you lose?
Do we wanna judge another lest we be judged too?
Careful now, the next one might be you, yeah

Just like the countless bodies that revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one
That caused it all to be and then we'll see His kingdom come
So shall it be written, shall be sung

Imagine sending your first born off to fight a war
With no good reason how it started and what they're fighting for
And if they're blessed to make it home, will they still be poor?
Pray for peace right now and forever more

Just like the countless bodies that revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one
That caused it all to be and then we'll see His kingdom come
So shall it be written, shall be sung

Just like the countless bodies that revolve around the sun
Planet Earth must now come into balance with the one
That caused it all to be and then we'll see His kingdom come
So shall it be written, shall be sung, shall be sung

So shall it be written, so shall it be sung

If no one believes the law of the land is effective, then it won't be because of an undermining culture.

I feel sorry for Mr. Uhlmann and I can't believe he and Bush aren't behind bars for the corruption they practiced, but, that is what power is all about, right?

For eight long years the Bush administration raped the USA of it's dignity in the name of something they called an economy. In 2005, Cheney created an energy document that declares war on the Middle East and the Caspian Sea and turns loose fracking which was marginal and stupid.

Now, Mr. Uhlmann wants us to believe that actual justice is somewhat out of reach in Flint, Michigan. More corruption, Mr. Uhlmann?

That is the way I see it. There are Americans. Good people. People that lived for the freedom guaranteed to law abiding citizens and the people of Flint are law abiding citizens. I am absolutely certain the Michigan's Attorney General is only dabbling in corruption by taking aim at people without power. I am confident of that. Such power structure takes time to knock down, but, it will be knocked down.

By David M. Uhlmann

...It’s clear that government officials betrayed Flint residents, (click here) first by switching the city’s drinking water system to the polluted Flint River and failing to keep lead from leaching into the water, and then by ignoring complaints and dragging their feet for months in responding.

But it is not clear that prosecutors have a strong enough case to exact the accountability that Flint residents deserve.

I spent nearly two decades prosecuting environmental crimes for the Justice Department. If there is sufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendants committed crimes, justice demands criminal charges. But justice also requires that prosecutors make charging decisions based solely on the evidence....

Mr. Uhlmann believes in corruption otherwise he wouldn't stand for it. He has justified the idea that power is never prosecuted as in the USA government and the Wall Street banks and collapse. AGREEMENTS are so much better, especially when as charismatic as Jamie Dimon. Those agreements are corruption. There is no other name for it and it makes complete sense that "W" loved them above the law.

In Flint, Michigan are innocent people confronted by a diabolical and cruel governor that loves power more than people. He loves power so much he made himself king and found a warlord to place at the head of Michigan state agencies.

No, Mr. Uhlmann, this time the powerful will find out what REAL law abiding citizens do when the government is as corrupt as the day is long, and the day is getting very long again.

He's Harvard? This is hate speech.

Mr. Metrosexual doesn't understand these people? Oh.

Harvard Undergraduate LGBTQ Business Society (HUBB) (click here)

Harvard doesn't discriminate or force any individual into a corner of isolation. Ted Cruz is seeking to turn transgender people into pedophiles. Is he really a lawyer? I don't want him in the White House that's for sure.

Donald Trump's invitation to his followers to become a valuable part of the mainstream political stage may be backfiring.

In an very occasional interview when asked who one is voting for I have heard, "I was for Donald Trump, but, now I think he doesn't have a good diplomatic manner. I am changing my mind about voting for him."

The answer to his invitation may not be devotion to the head of the party.

With the exposure to the real challenge of voting for a president is a new pressure, being part of mainstream America carries enlightenment to mainstream behavior. Now, men (and not women) are toning their own diplomatic dialogue to be accepted by friends. Men like being part of a team, but, they also like being a leader themselves. A movement may have a price Donald Trump hasn't realized yet.

Therefore, what?

How many private aircraft owners have declared bankruptcy? He bought his jets in a reasonable method. I am sure the former owners were happy to get the money.

I don't recall Republicans complaining about his jets before.

The words you won't hear from Donald Trump is "...the 47 percent...". Donald Trump has taken the least wealthy of the Republican Party under his wing. It is just that simple. He is popular because he entertains their idea of life and upholds their culture. He won't be insulting them or pretending the 47 percent doesn't include Republicans. He is running because he doesn't believe anyone else, including all the Republican stalwarts, will ever be able to do what he can for them.

Oh, yes, unbeknownst to the elite, the 47 percent definitely includes Republicans from RED STATES.

Questions?

...After Mr. Trump (click here) took possession of the 757 in 2011 he made a number of changes but did not fundamentally undo Mr. Allen’s initial renovation, records show. For instance, he kept the headboard in the master bedroom, as well as most of the chairs, couches and toilet seats Mr. Allen had left, choosing to reupholster them.
Greg Raiff, chief executive officer of Private Jet Services, an aviation consulting firm and private-jet charter broker for corporations and individuals, said the Boeing was an unusual aircraft for a man of Mr. Trump’s wealth. “Buying a 25-year-old 757 is like buying a bag of Cheetos. It’s a lot of food for a low price,” he said.
The Cessna was previously owned by NetJets, an aircraft company that caters to the nation’s wealthiest people, and has flown more than other planes its age, records show. It was worth $15.3 million new and has a current resale value of approximately $3.2 million, according to an estimate by Vref Publishing, a company that supplies information about aircraft values. The Times paid Vref to value the plane based on publicly available information....

He died in his home.

The State of Michigan needs to stop scapegoating the men at the lower end of the water treatment issue. All these very nice people didn't have a worry in the world as long as they did their job as they did it for decades. It didn't matter that fifty year old documents were eaten by rodents or deteriorated into dust, everyone was just fine UNTIL the idiot and vindictive Governor Snyder took the rights away from the Mayor and Council of Flint. Then people became ill, died and were poisoned.

  • These low level personnel are not guilty and if Matthew died for any other reason except natural causes, there is still another death to add to the Governor's list of dead.

  • The people being scapegoated needs to know the State of Michigan doesn't have a case. It is a hardship on them and their families and they need to fight the charges and prepare lawsuits for wrongful prosecution.

    Paul LaPage:

"...stick it in the microwave and it turns to some type of estrogen." - Homophobic

"...narcan does not save lives it only prolongs life until the next overdose."
     - State Budget.

What an ignoramus such as Paul LaPage doesn't realize is that the heroine crisis in the USA is directly related to prescription drugs. He should ask what' his name.....Lamebaugh how he is doing these days.

There is an INDUCED ADDICTION SYNDROME within the USA. This heroine crisis has a path. Saving lives and being persistent to end the addiction is paramount to maintaining all our country's sovereign purpose. Every person that dies of heroine overdose brings the USA one more step closer to filling all the necessary jobs for our social fabric.

There is an example of how an obsession can challenge the sovereign right of a country. It is the fallen average age of Muslim men in the middle east.

More than 28% of the population of the Middle East (click here) is aged between 15 and 29. Representing over 108 million young people, this is the largest number of young people to transition to adulthood in the region’s history. Young people 15 to 24 constitute approximately 20% of the populations in Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia....

Let's take this one more step.

We know how ideological young men and women are at those very important young adult years. In the middle east being ideological regarding life is based in religious standards. We know those ideological standards include suicide to kill others in the name of Allah. I am not going to debate this disaster of a misinterpreted understanding of Mohammad's teaching, I'll just state it is wrong. Turning wonderful young people into human bombs while the Holy Man stands outside the circle applauding his power is ludicrous and I am being nice.

Consider this. Twenty eighth percent of the populations in these countries are in those very volatile ages. We know how a group of criminal and estranged Saddam Ba'athists turned these young lives into weapons and sex slaves to provide a continual child soldier militia to carry out danger to other Muslims so the criminals have their idea of fun including their very lives.

What if a movement started by Daesh that would require a full devotion of their hearts and minds and is determined to displace people out of Italy so they could have a foot hold in Europe, what would happen to all those countries if they lost that very 28 percent of their population. Dead. The effort would fail and all those people would be dead. What would happen to the sovereign state of those countries, today and in one to two generations as there are losses of aged individuals dying of natural cause. Rather bleak. That is the equivalent of what Paul LaPage is stating about the very citizens of Maine. He is willing to allow people to become dependent on pain killers that will lead to heroine addiction and then fall off the edge. Dead.

This is a social issue of monstrous proportion and he does nothing.

Table 1.2A (click here)– Types of Illicit Drug Use in Lifetime, Past Year, and Past Month among Persons Aged 12 or 13: Numbers in Thousands, 2010 and 2011

Heroine use in 12 or 13 years old in 2010 and 2011 was 8000. Eight thousand children in the United States of American in a very narrow age group use heroine.

We should let them die? It isn't bad enough these children are actually using heroine, if they overdoes considering their body weight to drug intake, we should just let them die.

Their society didn't protect them in the first place. The poppy economy in Afghanistan is flourishing to support completely horrible human beings such as the Haqqani network. In the USA we are suppose to allow children to die because despicable human beings raise and sell opium in a country protected by the USA military. We keep this up and it won't be just celebrities dying and we'll be losing our culture and our kids. How long does the USA have before it's culture collapses and their children languish in drug use? Do we let them die? Really?

This entire drug crisis is nonsense. The USA military knows the drug routes. Fifteen years, military knowledge of the drug routes and our kids are playing with deadly drugs and our people are dying of overdoes. Where is the morality? Obviously, people like Ted LaPage doesn't understand the word morality when it comes to protecting the very country we live in.

Another important talent leaves us at a very early age.

Joan Laurer, (click here) the groundbreaking female wrestler known as Chyna, has died.
Police in Redondo Beach, California, confirm that Laurer, 45, was found dead in her apartment on Wednesday. Police say they were notified by a friend who went to check on her and found Laurer unresponsive. The cause of death is under investigation, but police say there are no signs of foul play....

The WWF has a strong content in Tea Party ranks. There are amateur groups flocked to by local social culture. The amateur groups add strong moral content to the Tea Party voters. A loss like this does hit them harder than one might expect, but, it should also be a reminder of the dangers of celebrity and predatory substances available in the USA.
Prime Minister David Cameron and President Barak Obama:

The Prime Minister's words regarding military directives falls on silent ears in the USA. There is NATO, but, there is no current AUMF that actually matters. The USA's Executive Branch, specifically the Secretary of Defense and President Obama are acting to protect NATO's nations and other allies without a valid AUMF as it pertains to terrorism. The one that has existed from the Bush administration is the language and the words stretched to disbelief by the American public. There is no legitimate AUMF against terrorism since the end of Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda that carried out the attacks of September 11, 2016. That was some times ago.

Additionally, the American people have had enough of ineffective war and training of other country's military in the near east that adds no more security  the USA or NATO. We have seen criminal genocidal regimes manifest such as Daesh from a very wrongful war into Iraq that lead to the destabilization of the region. Britain was a supporter of the Bush coalition that carried out this immoral and illegal war into Iraq. We are now attempting to end the mistake with more involvement, that is completely wrong. The near east needs to have strong sovereign militaries and their own alliances. The near east and north Africa have had fellowship for decades known as "The Arab League (click here)." Today that League needs to have their own region military commitment that seeks peace with Israel and Iran.

The very USA Congress today is now posturing to take the near east to court from an attack KNOWN to come out of Afghanistan and al Qaeda. This entire old regime of the USA, AKA The Republican Party, is outrageous in not only their immorality in the world, but, also the political pressure that forces the other major party, the Democratic National Committee, to depart their own values in order to win elections as a counter balance to the right wing extremists. That is most noted in the current candidate for the Democratic Party in Hillary Clinton. She voted for the Iraq War and has a very hawkish view of American military power. Such views place her above the fray of fear wield by the RNC to push Americans into the voting booths hoping to keep their lives. The hideousness of this is the reality of the gun preference of the RNC while Americans are fearing for their lives in their own churches, homes and places were groups of people are found. It is insane where the RNC is today. It serves no one but themselves and Wall Street cronies, primarily private family industries with global reach.

We are watching the remains of the RNC turn into the Tea Party and rightfully so. The Tea Party are all the people that voted in Republican primaries and national elections that supported the RNC. These are the poor and working poor that voted because of deep abiding religious beliefs. They have a rightful place in the USA's freedom and democracy, but, their leadership is leaning far more right and is a danger to not just the USA, but, our allies. Look at what is being contemplated for Saudi Arabia (click here). Does anyone this bill will end at the door of Saudi Arabia. It won't. It has far reaching precedent globally. It is needless to say these movements within the USA's Congress is just plain dangerous to us all. I am more than pleased the political parties in power are having a new reality handed to them.

I look forward to the elections in the USA in 2016. The people may actually have a feeling of control in being able to lead their future into security both with domestic policy and international relationships.

That said the relationship with Great Britain, evidenced by the lengthy laundry list of allied interest noted in the speech by the Prime Minster, is extensive.

The Prime Minister isn't exactly the average citizen either, is he? The facts found in the Panama Papers (click here) speak to that. It is that illegitimate dedication to wealth to this extent, rather than paying taxes to the very sovereign he leads, that calls up dedication to issues, especially that of the British working class and the British poor.

Let's face it, the condition of children in the USA and Great Britain isn't at the top of the global charts, however, their nuclear and military infrastructure is without question far larger fiscally than they need to be. The real irony is that children lack their infrastructure and spending to completely wasteful military infrastructure such as the F35 Joint Strike Fighter. Unfortunately, the lobby exists for the military, but, not for children. The only strong advocate for children from her early days of professional life has been Hillary Clinton. But, with whatever hope she brings to the presidency, her loyalty to military aggression raises the issue of unresolved social programs such as the legal status of children and the country's dedication to excellent nutrition, mental health, education and exercise.

One the laundry list is the intention of Great Britain to leave the European Union. I think that is occurring because the British know exactly their fiscal peril in the "Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership" (click here) currently facing the European Union. I congratulate them to being as strong as they need to be to rid themselves of draconian Wall Street GOVERNMENT documents. It is very sad the British has to go to this extent in order to protect their economic interests as Europeans on the continent don't have the same strength and power within their governments.

There is no doubt President Obama was a strong partner with Great Britain. That is important. What needs balance by both countries is their desire for oversized military that is out of fiscal balance with their domestic needs. The countries are suppose to have a Defense Department, not ones that are mercenary for Wall Street.

This is probably one of the last trips to Great Britain by President Obama. In that it is completely understandable many issues were addressed. The British Prime Minister should know President Obama will always do what is necessary within his power, but, on profound joint policy nothing will be accomplished by the USA legislature UNLESS the Brits come to lobby and demand better balance with all the needs of the British and American citizens.

I would suggest a strong media presence to visiting British diplomats no matter what it takes, including insults of RNC members if they are standing in opposition to vital American interests with Great Britain. In this election the truth has to be stated in overwhelming realty because the people are sincerely undereducated to their votes. Americans are distracted and it would be nice if it were to mutual interests such as Manchester United, but, the commercial lives of Americans are the focus and it is very unfortunate. The USA stand as an example of what happens to a society owned by a single political dialogue and it's Plutocratic priorities.

No truer words ever entitled a book.

First (click here) published in 1992, Earth In The Balance helped place the environment on the national agenda; now, as environmental issues move front-and-center in the public consciousness, the time is right to reflect deeply on the fate of our planet and commit ourselves to its future.
While An Inconvenient Truth closely examines one menace to our environment, global warming, Earth in the Balance takes a broader approach, focusing on the threats that everyday choices pose to our climate, water, soil, and diversity of plant and animal life.

Director Davis Guggenheim eloquently weaves the science of global warming with former Vice President Al Gore’s personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global climate change in the most talked-about documentary of the year.

Earth Day started the awareness of the climate crisis gently. It was begun by John McConnell in 1970 as a citizen's movement to grow a welcome message of Earth's changing climate. The message threatened no one, but, only to reach others who did not have the knowledge about greenhouse gases and the greenhouse effect. It threatened no one until it reached the office of Wall Street and it entered into political debate of petroleum profits. A simple man with a simple and important message through his First Amendment right to freedom of speech. It is the way the democracy of the United States of America is suppose to work; uncorrupted, based in truth and reason inspired to move to protect the lives of it's people. The First Amendment was trampled and sold to political ambitions. It was not a crisis when John McConnell began a citizen's awareness. The USA is failing it's people. What happened to the First Amendment?
