LAGOS, Nigeria, April 3 - In the modest sanctuary of the Church of the Assumption here, there is no glint of stained glass, just cheap frosted louvers to let the breeze in. The Stations of the Cross are not painted by the hand of a Renaissance master. They are rendered in simple wood carvings hung on the wall.

Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq Battles

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraqi troops battled dozens of insurgents in a remote part of Iraq east of Baghdad on Monday and two American soldiers and an Iraqi soldier were killed in the fighting, the U.S. military said on Tuesday.

TV watching linked to bullying, say researchers

CHICAGO - The more television 4-year-old children watch the more likely they are to become bullies later on in school, a US study said on Monday.
At the same time, children whose parents read to them, take them on outings and just generally pay attention to them are less likely to become bullies, said the report from the University of Washington.

Temporary tsunami alert system goes live

A temporary tsunami early warning system for the Indian Ocean came into operation yesterday.
So far only six countries in the region are in a position to receive the information from the new system. The six have not been named, but are believed to include Singapore and Sri Lanka. The plan is to extend the system to 25 countries, including Australia, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Woman breastfeeds tiger cubs

A woman in Myanmar is breastfeeding two tiger cubs at a zoo in Yangon after they were removed from their aggressive mother.
Hla Htay, 40, who has three children, the youngest seven months old, offered her services after the Bengal tiger cubs' mother, Noah Noah, killed the third member of her litter.
The two others, a male and a female, were taken from her and now receive bottle feeds as well as Hla Htay's milk four times a day.
"I felt sorry for them so I decided to feed them before their teeth grow," she told the Myanmar Times, an English-language paper in the capital.
