...By May 1, (click title to entry - thank you) the Central Intelligence Agency told the White House of a report that “a group presently in the United States” was planning a terrorist operation. Weeks later, on June 22, the daily brief reported that Qaeda strikes could be “imminent,” although intelligence suggested the time frame was flexible....
This is the reality that needs to be included in the history books. The idea the USA could be attacked from a known source of violence and portrayed as if this was all a surprise never receives enough attention.
There was plenty of warning to activities in the USA. The very next day, on September 12, 2001, the federal authorities listed all the participants in the most recent attack of violence within the USA. They knew everyone involved in those attacks and they also had the 20th attacker on the radar. There is much more to the events of September 11, 2001 that have to be included in our children's understanding of their reality of such violence.
In fact, political structures do get away with all kinds of trouble when in fact they serve the purpose of the wealthy.
I thank the New York Times for being the persistent purveyor of the truth. The newsprint tends to push reality to the forefront even if it is years or a decade later. The paper has a reputation of instilling reality to this society. We can only hope it continues. The New York Times is example of what can occur to keep the USA on an even keel when other news media panders to constructed political venues. There is suppose to be an ethical content to journalism in the USA and political exploitation for ratings and profits by a news media organization in no way can be viewed as ethical.
September 11, 2001 is always believed to be important to remember to prevent such tragedy in the future. Fine. But, it has to all be remembered and not simply the dead that is remembered for the purpose of protecting war as a priority of the USA. Peace has to remain a priority and the intelligence agencies have to function well and with action. The report unearthed by the 911 Commission was not simply a news item for the President, it carried brevity no one in the Executive Branch at the time followed up with action. For god sake, Zacarias Moussaoui was within the grasp of the FBI. It didn't take a great deal of debating to realize what was going on. Someone was absent from their job.
The documents reporting the activities of the terrorists, if that is what they are called, (I think members of al Qaeda is a better descriptor.) has to be included in the museum. The knowledge of what lead to the vulnerability of that day has to be a part of the reality within the museum forever. We can never forget.
