It is a National Security Issue.

Such turbines now have a capacity of 1.5 to 3 megawatts (MW), and typically generate 3-10 million kWh (or TWh) depending on the wind conditions. A big wind farm in the USA can include up to 100 turbines (150 MW) and generate, say, 500 TWh per year, enough to fulfill the needs of 45,000 families.

When Wall Street went 'belly up' it left a huge void for investors to provide venues of alternative energy sources for the country. This is a prime example of how the federal government has to finance new infrastructure for better energy sources.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Hoping to gain local investors, Dakota Wind Energy is outlining plans at a series of meetings for a large wind farm in the northeastern part of South Dakota.
The company hopes to develop up to 750 megawatts of wind-produced electricity from turbines in Day, Marshall and Roberts counties. That would be enough power for 220,000 homes.
The firm also is offering a stake in the project to landowners who agree to lease their land for turbines.
Company officials say 80% of the land that's needed has been leased, or about 60,000 acres.
The project is to be finished in stages over the next five years.
Upcoming meetings are planned for Nov. 6 at Britton, Nov. 10 at Aberdeen, Nov. 11 at Watertown and Nov. 13 at Milbank.
