There isn't much left of Joplin, is there?

It is Harry Potter weekend, so the blog is taking a break.

I didn't see them in the cinema becuase I thought they were uninteresting, but, they are kind of fun especially when one doesn't have to wait for the next one to come out.

At any rate, President Obama did quite well with his speech regarding Israel.  It was sad he had to reiterate everything a second time, however, I found clarity in him being willing to restate his position.  He pledged transparency at the beginning of his Presidency, he has lived up to it.  In the case of Israel and Palestine; it is about time we were all let in on it.  I think it is a wonderful idea and high time to get on with it.

So, this week I want to concentrate on the DEVOLUTION of unions in the USA.  It is quite interesting.  It has a direct relationship with poverty and huge profit margins.  I hope you'll find it interesting, too.  I have some correspondence to finish this evening and Harry Potter is keeping me company.  I've grown to like the guy.

Until tomorrow...

What more do you want?

A contiguous Palestine is necessary for sovereignty, but, one that divides Israel is not possible.

Gaza needs to be reabsorbed into Israel and land extended on the West Bank to accommodate EXISTING Palestinian villages.

The 'newness' of the 'idea' seems radical to many and a conspiracy against Isreal is propagandized.  (click here)

In defense of the potential for a contiguous Palestine, it would remove Israel as its guardian and place defined borders into place that the international community would have to accept and honor.  It would remove the 'impetus' by Palestine to attack Israel in an ideology that has kept them in chaos for decades.

I do not advocate the 1967 borders simply because Palestine does not provide for prudent population growth that is sustainable and stablizing to a very poor economy.  There has been to much 'water under the bridge' RATHER THAN peace to allow for a return to 'that land mass.'

...From the Israeli perspective, (click title to entry - thank you) at least, the Gaza problem was supposed to have been solved in August, 2005, when Ariel Sharon, then the Prime Minister, closed down the Jewish settlements on the Strip and withdrew Israeli forces. The international community and the Israeli left wing applauded the move. But, almost immediately, mortar and rocket attacks from the Strip multiplied. Five months later, Hamas won its parliament victory. Ari Shavit, a prominent columnist for the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, told me recently in Jerusalem, “We dismantled the settlements, and then we sat back and said, ‘Let’s have a new beginning.’ What we got was rockets and Gilad Shalit. People became very angry, and Shalit becomes an icon of that frustration.”...

There are enormous problems in both Israel and Palestine.  The chronic upheaval of authoity is proof of the lack of values extremists such as Hamas exhibits toward their people.  They refuse to recognize any measure as a valuable token of peace and good will.  When Israel vacated Gaza it was believed that would define a final chapter in the conflict between these two people, but, Hamas has no values that include humanity or peace, they seek only power and killing as if that is all that matters anymore.

Leaving Gaza was a heroic gesture by Israel.  I can't believe they regret it today.  Israel wants peace, it recognizes the need for a Palestinian Homeland, however, none of its efforts to improve the circumstances of the Palestinians, either in the land they seek or a quality of life that is considered important by most nations satisfies their violent tendancies.  There is only one reasonable conclusion and that is the extremists conducting the violence want to end the sovereign nation of Israel.  There is too much evidence that points to that conclusion.

A sovereign contiguous Palestine would end the 'idea' of destroying a land called Israel.  I do not see that Hamas has earned the right to live in Gaza, so much have PROVEN their lack of ability to understand and value civilization.

Unfortunately, if Palestine is disgruntled regarding the 'size' of their contiguous nation, then they need to realize there is a price to be paid for hatred and imprudent leadership.

Saleh, Opposition to Conclude Power-Sharing Deal Next Week

 Yemen Post Staff

The ruling and opposition parties confirmed on Friday (click title to entry - thank you) they will conclude the GCC power transition plan next week, though the government suggested that on Sunday and the opposition on Saturday.
On Wednesday, President Saleh refused to sign the deal after he suggested earlier that five from the General People's Congress, the governing party, and five from the Joint Meeting Parties, the opposition bloc, sign the deal.
He asked to change the five representatives from the opposition, triggering the anger of the GCC Secetary General, Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, who arrived in Yemen on a third visit this week to push the West-backed effort.
Al-Zayani blamed Saleh as being the only obstacle to signing and left the country without securing the deal that would see Saleh resign and end the month-long crisis....

If the power sharing authority will have issues with military conflict then disarm the military, institute Marshall Law and allow the police to remain in force during the transition.  I am confident the USA will be happy to receive any armaments that would cause problems to the global community.

It seems to me power-sharing is a viable solution to the entire region, actually.

I sincerely believe the USA does not need to invoke the War Powers Act for a humanitarian effort by NATO. You'll never convince me of it.

A Libyan government vessel (click here) in the port of Al Khums is hit by British jets carrying out NATO airstrikes. (Reuters / May 21, 2011)

When the Christmas Tsunami occurred the USA sent in troops to assist with a humanitarian effort.  It was not in affiliation with NATO, but, simply under a plea by the United Nations, and the then leadership of Koffi Annan.  The reason the military was sent in was due to Tamil Tiger Rebels and the turbulence in the region.  Efforts such as these that are instituted to save lifes and support a return to economic viability aren't a matter of declaring war.

The same holds true with Japan, in that, with such destruction it is impossible for a response if it is not a military readiness deployment.  So, this is simply an extension of humanitarian assistance.  I don't believe this is 'mission creep' either.  It is STABILIZATION of a region involved with a huge paradyme shift.  The global economy and NATO requires our help and we are responding in SUPPORT of allies.

It isn't a matter of war and the War Powers Act should be reserved for the deployment of a war effort.  That isn't what this is and the weapons to disarm Libya were collecting dust anyway.  Virtually, there is no sincere expense by the USA except fuel in excess of what would be used anyway.

...Under the War Powers Act, (click title to entry - thank you) Obama had 60 days to inform Congress that he had ordered U.S. forces into action. That deadline came on Friday, two months after American ships launched missile attacks on Qadhafi's air defenses March 19. Obama formally notified Congress of U.S. involvement two days later....
..."I wish to express my support for the bipartisan resolution drafted by Senators Kerry, McCain, Levin, Feinstein, Graham, and Lieberman, which would confirm that the Congress supports the U.S. mission in Libya and that both branches are united in their commitment to supporting the aspirations of the Libyan people for political reform and self-government," Obama said in his Friday letter....

Assad is still killing people, huh? The Syrian troops are patrolling in the countryside as well. The deaths are probably everywhere.

Syrian security forces opened fire on protests around the country Friday in the latest sign the conflict could be moving toward a long and bloody stalemate as President Bashar Assad shrugged off tighter sanctions and U.S. calls to step aside. Human rights activists said at least 27 people were killed, including a 10-year-old boy.

BOQAYA, Lebanon

..."The first words my year-old son will learn to say are: 'We don't want Bashar'," said Ahmed, who fled from Tel Kelakh, where security forces, the army and irregular Assad loyalists known as shabbiha had cracked down on earlier this week.
"Are these his reforms? To oppress people? Until when will we be downtrodden?" he said. Like other refugees interviewed by Reuters in the Lebanese border village of Boqaya, he asked that his surname not be used to protect his family still in Syria....

The prisons are probably full and there needs to be a report on any executions taking place.  The United Nations Security Council should demand a daily report on any and all deaths from hospitals as well as prisons and burial facilities.  The Israelis probably have an idea as to what is happening at the border and into the country.  The Israelis should NOT extend their authority past their borders in order to conduct assessments without the explicit authority of the United Nations.

In the real world; there is real tragedy.

TRAGEDY (click title to entry - thank you) Brigadier James Cowan, inset, gave evidence at the inquest into the death of Darren Chant and four of his comrades, who were killed at the Blue 25 checkpoint.

Is the corruption in Afghanistan so deep the most promising officers are being targeted for death?

I would hate to think the ISI in cooperation with the Taliban are actually carrying these strikes.

,,,Brigadier James Cowan, who was in charge of 9,500 British troops in southern Afghanistan in 2009, said Darren Chant had been selected for promotion to army officer level before his death and was a ‘clear candidate’ to be the sergeant major at Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst – a top position in the army.
He said: ‘Sergeant Major Chant was a big man in every sense of the word. He had a personality big enough to be a widely-respected character.’
But on the day he was to be informed of his promotion, the father-of-three from Horndean was shot dead by a rogue Afghan policeman.
The attacker, named in court as Afghan police officer Gulbuddin Mohammed, killed five soldiers in the attack at Blue 25 checkpoint in the village of Shin Kalay on November 3, 2009. WO1 Chant and his men had been based at Blue 25 to iron out problems with the local Afghan police force....

...Why? Well, adultery, it turns out, is much easier to commit than to explain.
That’s particularly true if you’re a politician, because if you’re in public life, people sometimes expect more of you.
Exactly why is a mystery, given the public’s generally low regard for the political species. And yet it nevertheless seems to be the case, especially when it comes to present, past, and aspiring holders of high office....

Senator Coburn Implicated in Covering up Ensign Affair  (click here)

The report of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics which found that former Nevada Senator John Ensign violated Senate ethics, rules and federal law, also revealed that Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) was involved in the cover-up of Ensign's affair. “In the second term, he felt Bush was moving away from him,” said a participant in the recent gathering, describing Cheney’s reply. “He said Bush was shackled by the public reaction and the criticism he took. Bush was more malleable to that. The implication was that Bush had gone soft on him, or rather Bush had hardened against Cheney’s advice. He’d showed an independence that Cheney didn’t see coming. It was clear that Cheney’s doctrine was cast-iron strength at all times — never apologize, never explain — and Bush moved toward the conciliatory.”

One day after the end of Jacksonville mayoral race where 20 percent of the nearly 200,000 voters cast their ballots early, Gov. Rick Scott quietly signed a sweeping rewrite of Florida election law Thursday that will cut the number of early-voting days nearly in half....

Prime Minister Netanyahu is not the man to convince regarding Israel's borders in relation to Palestine.

The Knesset is.  The 1967 borders will never be accepted by the Knesset.

...“Barack Hussein Obama adopted Yasser Arafat’s staged plan for Israel’s destruction, (click title to entry - thank you)  and he is trying to force it on our prime minister,” Likud MK Danny Danon said. “All that was new in the speech was that he called for Israel to return to 1967 borders without solving the crisis. Netanyahu has only one option: Tell Obama to forget about it.”

Environment Minister Gilad Erdan, also from the Likud, who as a minister close to Netanyahu must be more diplomatic, said on Channel 2 that according to Obama’s approach, the Palestinians would receive what they were demanding on borders before negotiations begin.

“Once they have everything from the start, they have no reason to make any concessions,” Erdan said....

...Obama is right when he says ''too many leaders in the region tried to direct their people's grievances elsewhere,'' towards the West or Israel. The protesters have rejected of that type of exploitation. This has been a movement to rid the shackles of repression — not a complaint about US foreign policy....

In all honesty, the Israeli Knesset has a right to demand 'reparations' from the Arab Nations in regard to "The Six Day War."  Blood was spilled and Israel will never allow the deaths of those soldiers to be nullified.  Therefore, the borders previous to that war is sincerely null and void.

The Six-Day War ended at 1630 GMT on June 10, 1967 when a cease-fire became effective on the Israel-Syrian front. Israel’s casualties amounted to 759 dead and about 3,000 wounded. Arab casualties were never officially tallied, but are believed to be about 15,000. Israel had avoided the threat to its very existence, but also remembered well that there was no peace after the victory in 1948-49. Therefore,Israel was determined to hold the new cease-fire lines until a permanent peace was established.

As much as President Obama wants Palestine to have their own state, to demand the 1967 borders be put back in place is not realistic.  With all due respect to everyone.

The next RNC nominee for President is having no trouble raising money.

...It was an impressive haul (click title to entry - thank you) by any measure, including a similar “call day” he held four years ago for his last presidential campaign that brought in about $4 million less....

...Can any of the other contenders for the 2012 GOP nomination even come close? And do they have to?

The answers are “probably not” and “no.” Each candidate faces his or her own benchmark of fundraising success when the bell rings on June 30 and candidates report their second quarter 2012 numbers to the Federal Election Commission. (The results will be made public some time in July, but expect the big fundraisers to trumpet their success in press releases.)...

Four months after leaving office, the Granholm Economy is booming.

Stop Snyder's TOXIC Business Tax cuts, NOW !!!

State economists say Michigan tax revenue is up  (click title to entry - thank you)

Michigan is expected to bring in $429 million more than anticipated this fiscal year, raising the possibility that lawmakers will use some of that money to reduce cuts to public schools and other programs now facing the knife.

If lawmakers were counting on a similar surplus in next year's budget, however, they're going to be disappointed. The strengthening economy is expected to lift revenue above forecasts by an even greater figure, nearly $500 million, in the budget year that starts Oct. 1. But that money will largely disappear into the $1 billion hole created by business tax cuts that take effect once Gov. Rick Snyder signs them into law....

Nakba Day should be in mothballs by now.

In 2009, Chris Jordan photographed dissected remains of dead birds killed by floating garbage.

This Albatross was found on Midway Atoll.  (click title to entry - thank you)

Now the NRA is demanding the USA Congress enforce more danger to wildlife by demanding legislation that assures the sale of lead shot, bullets and sinkers.

Once lead is ingested by birds and fish it creates toxins that will kill them and/or and lead to their flesh when sports provide them as a meal on the table.

Every aspect of the use of toxic substances allowed in wildlife habitat is disgusting as well as dangerous.  The EPA needs to ban lead from any and all use when it comes to POLLUTING the environment.

...There are perfectly acceptable, nontoxic substitutes. (click here) Fishermen and hunters have been voluntarily adopting bismuth shot, copper bullets, and nonlead sinkers. Several states have set up exchange programs to encourage hunters to turn in lead-based shells for nonlead shells. In the past few years, 25 states have proposed bills to eliminate lead shot. They have regularly gone down to defeat thanks to deceptive campaigns that portray the effort as anti-gun, anti-hunting or anti-fishing.

Banning lead poses no threat to hunters or fishermen. It is a way of making sure they kill only the prey they seek without inadvertently killing other creatures as well. Congress should ignore the N.R.A.’s importunings and reject this latest misguided legislation. And the E.P.A. should issue the ban.

To the right is lead shot removed from the stomach of a Mallard Duck.  The birds, fish and wildlife treat it like food.  Allowing this to continue is hideous.

The opposition to 'the individual mandate for health insurance is nonsense.

Every state in the nation already requires an individual mandate on health insurance.  Check the car insurance policies required in every state.

Since then, all 50 states have adopted similar requirements for car insurance. Types of coverage requirements vary, and policies can include:
  • Medical coverage of the insured party (medical payments)
  • Physical damage to the insured vehicle
  • Medical coverage for third party individuals
  • Damage to other property
  • Fire and theft
  • Medical coverage for other persons in the vehicle
  • UNINSURED MOTORIST - MEDICAL
