Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, reached 82.404 today in the United States, giving it the most cases in the world.
And yesterday was the most active day so far in the country, with 14,042 new cases reported, and the national death toll reaching 1,069 fatalities.
The numbers came on day 10 of the White House's "15 days to slow the spread campaign," a nationwide effort at social distancing measures that has been implemented in a patchwork fashion across the 50 states. As of yesterday, 21 states had shelter-in-place or stay-at-home mandates that asked the non-essential workforce to remain at home for 14 to 30 days in an effort to slow the spread of the pandemic.
The United States late this afternoon passed both Italy and China to have the most COVID-19 cases in the world, according to the Johns Hopkins online tracker and other similar trackers.
President Trump ended the ALLOWED intelligence in China that would have brought the warning and THE NEED to prepare and stock hospitals.
According to the numbers this AM, the percentage of patients with COVID-19 is 15.6 percent of the world cases.

I want everyone to take a long look at this graph. There was a 1352 point gain which is a 6.5 percent gain today on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDEXDJX: .DJI).There is only one reason why. Because a $2.2 trillion stimulus was passed by
the US Senate. This particular $2.2 trillion was championed by Democratic
leadership in the US Senate and US House.
THE FINANCIAL MARKETS RECOGNIZE THE POTENTIAL PROFITS IN CONSUMER
SPENDING.
Now, there are problems with the fact the markets bailed out on the First World
countries that value them. Was there ever a doubt that at the very least that
the member countries of NATO would be coming forward with generous
legislature to care for their people. Not only that this dumping of stocks occurred
KNOWING the major banks in the First World weren't going to abandon them.
The financial managers that grabbed their mortgage money leaving the world
quaking have to be ashamed of themselves. I am ashamed of them.
The financial markets recognize the opportunity. That opportunity exists in the
USA in consumer markets. Every legislator that doubted for one minute in
protecting the WEALTH of the American people that work for a living should be
ashamed of themselves as well and only proves they know nothing about what
a REAL MARKET looks like.

US stocks (click here) finished higher on Thursday, recording their third straight day of gains.
Markets had already priced in the sharp increase in jobless claims reported ahead of the opening bell this morning, and stocks rallied throughout the day.
- The Dow finished up up 6.4%, or 1,352 points. The index has emerged from the bear market it fell into on March 11, having climbed more than 20% since Monday.
- The S&P 500 closed up 6.2%.
- The Nasdaq Composite rose 5.6%.
The USA military will have a storehouse of malaria medication. They were vitamins in places like South Vietnam. The Joint Chiefs should already be asking to look at their supply of drugs.

Both Cook County and the state of Illinois have high marks as of Wednesday on the “Social Distancing Scoreboard,” an interactive project based on location data collected by the company Unacast that roughly measures whether or not people are heeding the advice of officials to “flatten the curve” of the spread of the coronavirus.
The scores were determined by the change in average distance traveled compared with before the coronavirus outbreak. If residents are staying put aside from the occasional trip to the grocery store or pharmacy, the dip in travel would be apparent in the data.
A more than 40% decrease leads to an A, with grades dropping from there. Anything less than a 10% decrease — or an increase — ends in an F.

This is really big trouble and the Trump administration's response is abysmal. The trend line is disastrous. The number of SERIOUSLY ILL is overwhelming the hospitals and a huge number of healthcare workers HAVE BECOME EFFECTED BY THE VIRUS.
Americans have to save themselves by SOCIAL DISTANCING AND SOCIAL ISOLATION.

Columbus - Of Ohio's more than 700 diagnosed cases(click here) of the COVID-19 coronavirus, 16% are healthcare workers.
Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton said Wednesday that 116 healthcare workers have tested positive for the novel coronavirus across the state. That's a bit more than 16% of the 704 confirmed statewide cases.
"This is an interesting stat. We know they’re higher risk, but they’re also tested more,” Acton said.
They're on the frontlines in a battle against a silent and invisible enemy, state officials said, doing everything they can to stop the advance...

Oakland - Several days (click here) had passed since the congestion in her chest left her feeling suffocated and racing to the emergency room. Now, Lisa McClendon, 64, was trying to level with her respiratory therapist about why her asthma had flared up again.
In recent months, she explained from her cramped studio apartment in downtown Oakland, Calif., the money from Uber driving had not been enough to buy the nutritional supplements that help to keep her asthma under control. The therapist, Rochelle Allen, heard things like this often. She mostly treats African-Americans like Ms. McClendon who struggle to make ends meet, and whose health problems can be exacerbated by social factors like a lack of insurance, healthy food options and recreational opportunities.
But Ms. Allen also saw another culprit in the asthma attack.
“You have to use your controller,” she said, waving an orange inhaler that Ms. McClendon was not using twice a day as instructed....
I am just not in the mood to be delicate, but, the cities in the country have the highest population of ill and dead. It is due to the density of the population.
I fully expect a thorough study of the socio-economic dynamics of the victims of COVID-19. Why? Because each Mississippi and Florida are known to be voter suppressors in very unethical ways.
Yes, I think these governors are that diabolical and stupid. They will be held responsible for the cruelty of their decisions to ALLOW disease to run rampant in their citizen populations AND the young visitors for Spring Break that could be said to be VECTORS to all the other states in the country.
So, with that said, I think these governors are nothing short of racists.
Alaska Airlines are canceling some of the flights (click here). I was hoping at least one of the states would be safe from the transmission, but, I guess not. There are also Native Americans in Alaska that could be suffering without saying a word. Someone in Alaska needs to throw some PPE in planes and helicopters and check the distant natives and distant citizens. I hope the digital and radio communicators are intact. Coast Guards will be helpful, but, there are people that live at a distance in the interior of Alaska, too.
There is talk on the internet about who exactly is essential and who is not. Some of the dialogues are interesting, some are silly and angry and others are downright funny and they are intended to be funny. This is a more serious article from "The Chicago Tribune." I think the author picked up on some of the dialogue in the country either by coincidence or purpose.
I haven't seen IT people as essential, but, I am not going to pretend to have seen all the lists in the country either. I think the Americans at home to prevent the spread of the virus and flatten the curve are grateful IT is at work.

The headline on the Chicago Tribune’s weather page (click here) Wednesday sounded more like a commandment than a prediction: “Enjoy today before a wet end to the week.”
For many Chicagoans, that meant retrieving golf clubs from the garage and ignoring the “stay at home” requests from elected officials.
For Jeff Carrier, it meant playing nine holes under a sunny sky at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn.
“This is the happiest I’ve been in 10 days,” he said. “I hate being cooped up indoors. I’m getting exercise and interacting with human beings.”

President Donald Trump (click here) on Wednesday approved a disaster declaration for Florida, as the state's death toll reached 22 and the number of confirmed coronavirus cases approached 1,700.
A total of 1,682 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the state, including 1,583 Florida residents and 99 non-Florida residents, according to the Florida Department of Health. It was 215 more than Tuesday's figure.
Miami-Dade had a total of 400 cases Wednesday, while Broward had 355. Palm Beach had 118 cases and Monroe had 8.
Florida newborns are exposed on birth.
The Department of Health announced Tuesday that a baby boy and a 2-year-old girl have tested positive for COVID-19 in Broward County.
The health department’s data list the boy’s age as zero, making him the youngest person in the state known to be ill with the disease....

US Senator Cardin and his Republican colleagues are very incorrect.
They don't get it. This is not incentivizing unemployment. The Republicans don't carry Americans in high esteem. They think Americans cheat all the time as they do.

The end of the lay-offs depends on the Governor's declaration to end the protective methods. If an employer continues lay-offs beyond the Governor's declaration, the AID ends. The lay-offs would continue under normal unemployment dynamics or if this emergency ends with four months of unemployment, the workers may not have additional benefits.
The bill allows employers to borrow money to pay their employees directly and they then have the loan turn into a grant if indeed the employer paid his employees in anticipation of keeping them. That isn't even approaching unemployment.
It sounds to me the Republicans are stalling the bill because they only want to provide a Christmas payment to Wall Street. This is the problem with Republicans, they make things up and don't see the needs of the people.
The US Senate needs to pass the bill to support the American workers.

Most elevators are usually 6.5 to 7 feet wide and 6 feet deep. This is for a standard elevator car. A pneumatic elevator is round and will have completely different dimensions. Their average size is 43 inches in diameter.
A normal elevator that holds many people now under "Social Distance" will only provide safe space for one person at a time. Masks in these elevators are a must. That is impossible. The hospitals need masks that would be needed in any elevator today. People need to stay at home and schedule their time in elevators in residential high rises.

Washington education officials have a new message for the state’s schools: buildings may be closed, but school must go on.
The state’s Education Department released guidance Monday that calls on school districts to provide some form of instruction while schools are closed because of the novel coronavirus.
The guidance represents the first time the state has said across-the-board, some form of instruction is mandatory. Districts must resume class in some format by March 30, a spokesperson for the state Education Department said. Beyond that, the state offered few mandates of what instruction should look like.
“Although schools are closed and are not providing traditional in-person instruction, education must continue,” the new guidelines read. “We have an obligation to our students to provide them with opportunities to continue their learning during this pandemic.”...

The hundreds of furloughed employees worked in Jaeger's "J Collection" group of 19 hotels, which includes the 207-room Jung hotel and Residences on Canal Street, as well as a dozen boutique hotels in the French quarter, such as The Bourbon on Orleans Street and the Melrose Mansion on Esplanade Avenue. The group also includes hotels outside the city, such as the Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, which Jaeger's MCC Group acquired last year....
They are not job losses. The Ameican work force is on a Mass Lay Off until COVID-19 has been removed as a danger. This is not the global economic collapse of 2008. The financial markets DON'T GET IT!
The financial sector is going to have the ability to get large amounts of money from the Trump Deal and they don't know what to do with it. The money will never be applied in a way that actually TRICKS DOWN to the American worker. It is why the Democratic leadership has brought forward a package for the Amerian worker.
The facts are that as soon as the American workers start receiving unemployment pay, the economy will rebound and it has nothing to do with the financial sector. The monies the financial sector will receive is Christmas money. The companies that lost stock price because Wall Street lost it's nerve will never see the money that Trump is providing to the financial sector.
When the American worker spends money, then the stockbrokers will again purchase companies' stock and the price will go back up. But, the financial sector is ALWAYS the worse place to put money as an economic stimulus. The monies The Fed and the USA Treasury secretary will provide to the financial sector will never benefit the USA economy directly. As a matter of fact, the brokers will be looking for opportunities on other continents with their Christmas money.
President Obama needed to legislate a stimulus bill AFTER the monies from TARP were paid because TARP money was a Christmas present and never did anything to the USA economy.

Morgan Stanley chief US economist Ellen Zentner expects that jobless claims released on Thursday will be 3.4 million, she told CNBC during a Tuesday interview. Thursday's report from the Department of Labor will show unemployment claims for one week ending March 21.
Job losses of more than 3 million in one week is "incredible," Zentner told CNBC. "It's a stop in economic activity."...
They don't get it. There won't be a prolonged recession now that the American worker is going to receive extended time for unemployment payments. Small business is the backbone of this country.

The company's composite purchasing managers index slipped to 40.5 from 49.6 in February, marking an all-time low for IHS Markit's metric and its steepest single-month drop since October 2009. The composite gauge tracks the nation's manufacturing and services sectors.
The report is among the first economic data releases to reflect the pandemic's economic toll in the US....

Governor Cuomo is absolutely magnificent in his efforts.

Remember the silly standard for infant births and mother care? Well, the same principle can be applied here AS PER PHYSICIAN DETERMINATION. Only doctors can admit or discharge, so it is up to them to determine the length of NEED for hospitalization.

COVID-19 has a PATTERN once a person is exposed. That varies somewhat from person to person, but, in the early stages, therapeutics of medication can be ordered while a person is still fairly well. As people become ill and NEED hospitalization their stay will be determined by their progress. Those that progress well will reach a point where they are going to become well again. Those folks can be discharged to OUTPATIENT MONITORING. If for some reason there is a relapse, the patient can then be put back into the hospital.
There needs to be outpatient monitoring from diagnosis to complete wellness. That was complete wellness. In other words, the discharged patient may need to be on quarantine UNTIL they test negative.
Those outpatient units need lower-level but VITAL personnel to MONITOR the patients. It can be performed by home care assistants that report to Case Managers.
Governor Cuomo is correct about the outbreak being densest in the city. Ohio is a good example of that. There are cases in about half the state of Ohio, but, the densest numbers are Columbus and Toledo

The president is selling the American public a bill of goods.
If there is exceedingly good news in the USA then the issues regarding the economic effect on individuals can begin to be rolled back, BUT, if the number of sick, positive tests, those on ventilators and those dead is increased without SIGNIFICANT reductions Americans still need to be protected.
Americans need to listen to their governors and the governors need to prepare for a court fight.
The governors more than anyone want to have people back on their jobs. I believe New York is going to try the medications found to be effective. That is real hope. If that quickly has an effect then there is reason to move forward with economic priorities. BUT, if that fails to improve the health of people in a way that ends the viral spread, there needs to be caution.Ask Dr. Anthony Fauci, he will say the same thing and more.

To his credit, the vice president [Mike Pence] is really pushing for physical separation of the task force [during meetings]. He keeps people out of the room—as soon as the room gets like more than 10 people or so, it’s, “Out, everybody else out, go to a different room.” So with regard to the task force, the vice president is really a bear in making sure that we don’t crowd 30 people into the Situation Room, which is always crowded. So, he’s definitely adhering to that. The situation on stage [for the press briefings] is a bit more problematic. I keep saying, “Is there any way we can get a virtual press conference?” Thus far, no. But when you’re dealing with the White House, sometimes you have to say things one, two, three, four times, and then it happens. So, I’m going to keep pushing....

San Francisco Mayor London Breed, left, has called on the public to stay at home
Millbrae - San Francisco officials (click here) warned that a surge in coronavirus is expected to come within a week or two, and voiced dismay over images of the public crowding beaches and parks across California.
“The worst is yet to come,” San Francisco Director of Health Dr. Grant Colfax said at a news conference Monday. “Every community where the virus has taken hold has seen a surge in the number of coronavirus patients who need to be hospitalized. We expect that to happen in San Francisco soon, in a week or two, or perhaps even less.”
San Francisco has already taken steps to decompress the healthcare system — banning almost all visitors to hospitals and long-term care facilities, canceling elective surgeries and routine medical visits, and ordering appointments be done by phone or video if possible, and opening up tents to care for mild coronavirus patients to keep hospital beds free.
But officials say based on what’s happened elsewhere, the surge will come....

An outbreak (click here) in a Bellingham nursing home that sharply increased the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Whatcom County has bumped the county’s case count to the fourth-highest in Washington state.
As of Monday afternoon, March 23, a total of 48 Whatcom County residents were diagnosed with the respiratory illness. No new cases have been reported in the county since Sunday night....
