It took everything Kyanna Parsons-Perez (click here) had to keep from panicking after heavy winds collapsed the building she was in and pinned her to the ground under piles of heavy debris.

Parsons-Perez was one of many workers trapped under the rubble of a candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky, after it was struck by a tornado late Friday.

"It happened so fast," Parsons-Perez told CNN, describing the onslaught of destruction the tornado waged at the factory. "We all just rocked back and forth, and then boom, everything fell on us."

That tornado was one of at least 50 that struck eight states, including Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee. The winds knocked out power lines, ripped roofs off buildings and in some cases decimated communities.

More than 100 people are feared dead, including at least 80 in Kentucky, according to state and local officials....

Sound proof that as greenhouse gases increased, so did the opportunity for more than 30 tornado days.

In 1969 the number of tornadoes were mostly a single tornado event and the CO2 level was slightly greater than 350 ppm. In 1980, the number of tornadoes was primarily single tornado events and the CO2 level was less than 340 ppm. In 1990, the number of days per year with more than 30 tornadoes is increasing with a CO2 level in the troposphere was 350 ppm. In 2000. the number of more than 30 tornadoes was stable since 1990 with a CO2 level of 360 ppm, but, it was also an inflection point. In 2010 the number of at least 1 tornado per day was rapidly decreasing, but, the number of more than 30 tornadoes was increasing with a CO2 level of approximately 380 ppm. The increase in carbon dioxide concenteration increased past that graph, but, in 2015 the ppm was at 400 for the first time in the history of Earth.

Acid rain results when sulfur dioxide (SO2) (click here) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) are emitted into the atmosphere and transported by wind and air currents. The SO2 and NOX react with water, oxygen and other chemicals to form sulfuric and nitric acids.  These then mix with water and other materials before falling to the ground.

While a small portion of the SO2 and NOX that cause acid rain is from natural sources such as volcanoes, most of it comes from the burning of fossil fuels.  The major sources of SO2 and NOX in the atmosphere are:

• Burning of fossil fuels to generate electricity.  Two thirds of SO2 and one fourth of NOX in the atmosphere come from electric power generators.
• Vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Manufacturing, oil refineries and other industries.

Winds can blow SO2 and NOX over long distances and across borders making acid rain a problem for everyone and not just those who live close to these sources....

Anyone want to eat fish with high levels of aluminum?

...The ecological effects of acid rain (click here) are most clearly seen in aquatic environments, such as streams, lakes, and marshes where it can be harmful to fish and other wildlife. As it flows through the soil, acidic rain water can leach aluminum from soil clay particles and then flow into streams and lakes. The more acid that is introduced to the ecosystem, the more aluminum is released.

Some types of plants and animals are able to tolerate acidic waters and moderate amounts of aluminum. Others, however, are acid-sensitive and will be lost as the pH declines. Generally, the young of most species are more sensitive to environmental conditions than adults. At pH 5, most fish eggs cannot hatch. At lower pH levels, some adult fish die. Some acidic lakes have no fish. Even if a species of fish or animal can tolerate moderately acidic water, the animals or plants it eats might not. For example, frogs have a critical pH around 4, but the mayflies they eat are more sensitive and may not survive pH below 5.5....

The late President George H.W. Bush (click here) is the reason why President Trump has been asked about climate change in the last week more than at any other time in his presidency.

Through legislation he signed in 1990, Bush started the National Climate Assessment, a sweeping study documenting climate change’s impacts on the United States. The Trump administration released the latest iteration on Black Friday and has since downplayed its definitive body of research, making false claims about its accuracy and inadvertently drawing more attention to the clear science that shows Americans will be increasingly at risk as a result of climate change.

Bush’s presidency came during a different time, when bipartisan actions to reduce greenhouse gases and other pollutants seemed possible, observers said. The very existence of the NCA is a reminder that Republicans in Washington once crafted aggressive climate policy....

The Republicans have turned their backs on all kinds of policy to become radical extremists, such as health care and as stated by H.W. the climate crisis as well.

Donors and cronies were not put first in the H.W. administration. He put the people at the top of the list of priorities when it came to the oil and gas lobby.

Ever hear a politican talk out of both sides of his mouth. This is what it sounds like.

The Republican rhetoric always is about technology and the worrying about jobs. I don't think that is a worry anymore. But, as to the technology issue, it is over 2 decades old. That was two decades. Twenty years and they are saying the same thing. Well. Musk gave them the technology needed. What are the Republicans waiting for?

An atmospheric river storm and a rush of cold air (click here) bore down on the Bay Area on Sunday, possibly setting the stage for drenching rain, strong winds and hail over the next couple days, and a dumping of powder several feet deep in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

San Jose and the Santa Cruz mountains were expected to encounter the brunt of the storm in the Bay Area, which was forecast to intensify late Sunday into Monday while providing the area’s first real drenching in about a month. A dusting of snow also was possible over some Bay Area peaks by Monday morning, including Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Hamilton and parts of the Santa Cruz mountains.

To the east, the Sierra Nevada mountains were predicted to receive up to 100 inches of snow over the next couple days — a wallop that prompted travel warnings for motorists visiting in the high country.

While no drought buster, the storm promised to act as a salve for parched and quickly drying communities across the Bay Area after a month of dry, arid conditions....

A satellite photo (click here) taken just before 2 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday (January 28, 2021) shows a huge vapor plume stretching from the central Pacific to the California coast.

The winter storm (click here) that could dump several feet of snow in the Sierra and soak the Sacramento Valley with rain is listed as a “strong” category “AR 3” system by the scientists who study the powerful storms that supply California with most of its water.

In 2019, the scientists who study the storms known as “atmospheric rivers” agreed to a ranking scale similar to the “Cat” system used to describe a hurricane.

An “AR 1” is the weakest system. An “AR 5” is the most destructive. The five categories the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes at Scripps Oceanography list are “weak,” “moderate,” “strong,” “extreme,” and “exceptional."

One notorious example of an AR 5 was the New Year’s Day floods of 1997, which killed at least nine people and flooded 300 square miles of California....

 Joe Machin as a Senator is bought and paid for in 2022 and no one can deny it, not even him. Got to work those phones, oh, yeah!

This is called corruption and Machin is guilty of it. There is no doubt who he is working for and it isn't coal or the people of West Virginia. I guess that boat has a fair amont of upkeep. My uncle once said, "A boat is a hole in the water that you dump money in."

His position as the Senate’s most conservative Democrat means he often has final say in what his party is able to push through, especially when it comes to Joe Biden’s ambitious domestic agenda on infrastructure, far-reaching social policies and a powerful attempt to tackle the climate crisis.

A drive through West Virginia’s countryside – which is still enthusiastically Donald Trump country – reveals a patchwork of communities battered by the climate crisis and barely held together by deteriorating infrastructure. Yet Manchin – balking at a $3.5tn price tag of Biden’s reconciliation bill – is busy trying to strip out many of the policies that would try to tackle these crises that are so seriously affecting many of his fellow West Virginians....

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) (click here) often asserts that he’s not a scientist, and hence can’t opine on climate change. Yet opine he does, and often. Perhaps it’s the millions of dollars he’s received in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry?

The United States is currently joining with scores of other nations in Paris to negotiate a bold, vital plan to counteract climate change. Perennial doubters like McConnell—among the most powerful men in Washington— are trying to undermine President Obama’s mission in France, but we’re confident the rest of the world sees right through him.

Here are our top ten picks for most outrageous McConnell quotes on the state of our environment:

1.  “For everybody who thinks it’s warming, I can find somebody who thinks it isn’t.”

2. “I’m not a scientist.” We all know that. It is completely obvious.

3. In 2010, during a record snowstorm in Washington, D.C., McConnell asked, “Where’s Al Gore now?”

4, “I don’t buy” that climate is changing.

5. McConnell warned foreign leaders last spring to "proceed with caution before entering into a binding, unattainable deal” on climate with Obama, noting that "two-thirds of the U.S. federal government"—Congress and the Supreme Court—hasn't signed off on the president's Clean Power Plan.

6. The climate change agreement between the United States and China "requires the Chinese to do nothing at all for 16 years."

7. McConnell opened his campaign on March 3 with an op-ed article published in The Lexington Herald-Leader in Kentucky with the headline, “States should reject Obama mandate for clean-power regulations.”

8: “Even if the job-killing and likely illegal Clean Power Plan were fully implemented, the United States could not meet the targets laid out in this proposed new plan.”

9. When asked by the Associated Press if the Senate has any obligation to address global warming, McConnell replied, “Look, my first obligation is to protect my people … who are hurting as the result of what this administration is doing."

10. In our humble opinion, Senator McConnell often says it best by, well you know, #mcconnelling.

There is nothing here but Quid Pro Quo. They buy the votes of these Senators. Take a good look at that. Machin is receiving over a half million dollars from oil and gas for 2022. Machin pushed everyone else way done the row in amounts from oil and gas. McConnell came in 14th among these Senators. That is amazing. Machin knows exactly the point at which he can rake in big campaign dollars, simply be against every bill the Democratic Congress presents. Manchin needs to be put before the ethics committee.

One would think a war chest didn't have to include some of the most egregious industries with complete disregard for the climate.

...It is estimated (click here) that four tornadoes likely ripped through the state, one traveling more than 200 miles in the western part of the state, according to reports....

Every one of the deaths from the tornado is a climate death.

I want to hear McConnell explain this one as just bad luck for Kentucky. NO MORE COAL POWERED PLANTS, MITCH!

The wind field was enormous. There were 50 mph continuous winds all the way to Mid-Michigan yesterday until 8 pm. There are still high winds today. There is a heat transfer across the country. It is the largest one I ever saw. It flowed straight across this entire country. 

This is not my idea of fun. I have been out here nearly two decades warning of all the catastrophe the country will reap. Well, "The Grim Reeper," huh? McConnell is certainly that.

I am tired of the stupidity in the US Congess regarding climate. It is completely idiotic to continue down this path of self-distruction. This will happen again. The destruction will become so overwheiming there will be no recovering from it. That scenario is already playing out with sea level rise and hurricanes. 

THIS IS DECEMBER! A TORNADO THIS SIZE THAT SUSTAINED ITSELF THAT LONG? 

PURE STUPIDITY TO PRACTICE POLITICAL DENIAL FOR DECADES.

Where did the tornado come from in the middle of Decembe 2021? From an enormouse temperature drop when the sun set. This is not a weather or temperature map. This is the temperature change within the past 24 hours. The map came from The Weather Channel (click here).

Kentucky (click here) was devastated overnight Saturday as four tornadoes, including a massive storm that flattened much of Mayfield and several other towns, ripped through the commonwealth.

The system, which reportedly spawned at least one tornado in other parts of the South and Midwest, was forecast to bring a threat of damage to the area through the early hours of the morning. And it brought damage to much of the western portion of the state, as well as causing power outages throughout Kentucky.

Good news for Michigan. It has a champion to remove the emergency manager laws.

Flint - State Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (click here) has introduced legislation to repeal Michigan’s emergency manager law and a separate bill designed to identify local governments that are experiencing financial stress sooner so they can avoid state takeovers.

Ananich, D-Flint, said it should be obvious that the current law requires replacement and isn’t currently being used anywhere in the state....

The voters of Michigan passed a measure to end the emergency manager law in 2016 (click here) that was ignored and reworded by the Snyder Legislature. Can Michigan Senator Ananich pass the bill and make it stick? It is definitely an election year agenda item.

Fear mongering.

I have heard the use of coronal mass ejections as a place of worry for electronic devices for years and years. It is nonsense. Now, the coronal mass ejection isn't coming from Sol, it is coming from another star system. This is so ridiculous. And what is more ridiculous is the use of such issues in relation to sustainability.

An eruption of superheated particles in a faraway solar system is a “troubling” sign for us on Earth, according to a recent study from University of Colorado Boulder.

While gazing at the sun-like star EK Draconis, CU astronomers captured the largest-ever “coronal mass ejection,” or solar storm: an event that could “fry satellites in orbit and shut down the power grids serving entire cities” if it hit the Earth head-on....

The University of Boulder is making a statement about this distant issue in relation to Earth. The emissions from these sun activities are into space, a void, on the very side the ejection takes place. In other words, if an ejection occurs on Sol it is a concern, BUT, only a concern if it occurs in direct alignment of Earth. If the ejection occurs on the side of the sun (which is round) on the opposite side of the sun, Earth will never be effected.

Now, through the magic of digitization we can find these sun activities in other star systems. I thought Hubble did a heck of a job, but, I suppose there are far greater satellites and listening posts that can see from far beyond what was normally considered extraordinary. 

Solar coronal ejections have absolutely nothing to do with sustainability unless a bolt from across the universe comes through the atmosphere and burns up every electric wire in a wind turbine transmission box. The ODDS of that happening are so small that I would actually think gambling at the nearest casino had better opportunity.

Sustainability on Earth is about maintaining energy generation so that HUMAN BEINGS DON'T BURN IT UP. It has nothing to do with sunspots or solar flairs.

The issue of sustainability which was partially addressed at COP26 is about HUMAN BEINGS behaving themselves in reverence to the only planet capable of protecting them from the universe's harsh void in space and the solar winds that whistle through it.

No one is living in space. No one has left the Milky Way Galaxy. NASA's Voyager 1 and 2 (click here) have made their way to the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy and beyond. It was amazing to hear Voyager 1 do exactly that. I listened. It was fairly calm compared to the radiation that little space craft endured.

We do not have people living anywhere but Earth. I don't expect people will be living anywhere else but Earth in the near future. There are plenty of scientists, some within NASA itself, that believe life outside of Earth's protective atmospheres is impossible. The solar winds and the radiation that accompanies it are far to dangerous for human beings.

I realize space as a frontier is very inviting an sexy, but, the facts are we need to concentrate on Earth's atmospheres and the damage PEOPLE are doing to them as I write this. Earth's greatest threat are the biological creatures that it protects. It is time to come back to Earth and get over the idea of making huge amounts of money on space travel. The idea that human beings will be traveling to another planet like Mars to live and work, have families and play at the nearest beach is far away on the timeline that Earth's sustainability is on. Earth will suffer huge shifts in it's ability to sustain life long before human beings venture into space to actually colonize other planets and solar systems.

Answer 1: The Sun is expected to turn into a red giant in about 5 billion years. At that time the inside will get very much hotter, and the outer layers will expand and become much cooler than they are now. The size of the sun as a red giant might get as big as to extend out between the orbits of the earth and Mars, but no one is really sure. Although the temperature of the outer layers of the sun will be much cooler then than they are now, still it will be way too hot for life to exist on Earth. All the oceans will boil away; the atmosphere will be gone, too. But you have nothing to worry about! It is very, very far into the future!

I suggest we concentrate on Earth, it's benevolence is expected to exist a long time and many generations from now we as people and not just Americans will be able to sustain life elsewhere.

Hopefully, the vaccinations will be enough to end the DEATHS of Americans, including those in Pennsylvania. I find a lot of this bantering back and forth ridiculous. Gratefully, the Omicron virus is appearing to be less potent than Delta while far easier to spread. 

I would love to see what the courts would do if a potent Level Three Virus hit the USA, continue to disqualify perfectly good regulations that PREVENT THE SPREAD. I swear the people can blame the courts for the spread of this virus and it's many mutations that kill.

Do the justices, in their ideology, actually forget that? Do they forget the good purpose behind these mandates? TO SAVE LIVES!

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Friday (click here) struck down the school mask mandate imposed by the administration of Gov. Tom Wolf, affirming a lower court ruling that said state health officials lacked the authority to set the requirement.

In an order, the high court said it had vacated an order that allowed the mask mandate to remain in place while the Wolf administration appealed the Commonwealth Court ruling. It did not immediately issue an opinion, but promised one would be coming.

During oral arguments Wednesday, some justices seemed skeptical of the administration’s position that masking was a form of “modified quarantine” permitted under existing state law and regulations.

The plaintiffs who brought the case, Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman (R., Centre) and other parents, had argued that Acting Health Secretary Alison Beam erred in not following a formal process to create a new regulation when she imposed the masking requirement this fall.

I didn’t think I would be saying thank you to Republicans this morning.

 Thank you for passing the increase to the debt ceiling Senator Lindsey Graham was crying, “Mommy, Mommy, Donald Trump is going to hurt me.” True Republicans that love their country looked across the expanse of the horizon when communists feel emboldened and knew their military could not show an inkling of weakness. 

This is an important time for the USA and allies to stand strong and end any doubt about our dedication to freedom and democracy. This could very well be the ultimate challenge to us on the heels of the weakest president in USA history. After Trump catered to our enemies as if they were friends, the USA has to stand it’s ground and push back to protect all others in the world that love free freedom and democracy and stands with us.

It is a very important time for our country and we need the Congress unified and not divided. Putin is still represented by Trump and no one should forget that.

Thank you to every Republican that passed the debt ceiling.
