Fin Whale on Martha's Vineyard not in the water around Martha's Vineyard. January 7, 2005. What is a Fin Whale doing at Martha's Vineyard? It's not unusual for there to be a stranding there from time to time but I don't recall a Fin Whale ever stranding there. Fin Whales are normally found in the much colder waters near Iceland. What the heck?

When I first encountered this article I was reacting to the fact the weather in Wilmington, North Carolina was fairly mild most of the time and displaced the reality it was actully January 2005. The Fin Whales would normally be feeding at the Equator and not breeding, giving birth and lactating in the cold waters of Iceland.

The twelve Pilot Whales brought to UNCW for necropsies today from the Outer Banks stranding of over 30 whales of the same species is resulting in primarily healthy whales that somehow lost their way.

Normally this time of year these beautiful and magnificent marine mammals are at the equator feeding and frolicking. But, there has been several strandings now along the shores of North America in the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream that indicate to me these mammals are stranding because they are lost. They believe they have found their ususal 'wintering over' grounds when in fact they are far more north than they should be. It is not unusual to have an occassional stranding in Massachusetts but never before have I hear of a Fin Whale stranding there. This mammal believed it had found the equatorial waters when in fact it hadn't. This particular Fin Whale 'looks' to be under weight as well which leads me to believe it's feeding from last year was barely holding up for it's return trip south again.

The species most endangered are more 'in danger' than ever before due to Global Warming and Climate Change. These are some examples. The entry regarding the Pilot Whales is below.

The Bush Administration is not an honorable government. They are exploitive of their own, the Iraqis and that nation's assets and they will be of any nation they set foot on. Bush has no honor. He is not a reverent man. Attending church masks the man he is. He is oppressive to civil rights and human rights. Cheney is worse than Bush is. 

The Children of London moarn the innocent dead Children of Iraq. Their vigil stated at least 10,000.

Current USA mlitary dead 1368 as of Bush's Inauguration. That does not speak to the number of innocent lives he has taken as a result of his illegal war. 

The USA is quickly becoming a Facist Nation. The country is slipping into irreconcilable debt with promise by every member of Bush's Cabinet to maintain itself in a chronic state of war.

Staying on the path of an unfulfilled dream

With the passion of a preacher and the skills of an actress, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s daughter Yolanda gave Northwestern University students a lesson Monday in the civil rights movement's past and urged them to be its present and future.

"To some of you, the civil rights movement is ancient history," she told a full house during King Day ceremonies at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.

Yet it was only 40 years ago, she said, that the "ugly, sinful" era--the "whites only, colored only" signs, the killings and beatings, the institutional racism--was in full effect.

"It was not a documentary, it was not a reality show on TV," said King, 49. "It was live, and in living color."

There has been progress, she said, but not enough.

"We as a nation have not reached the promised land," she said. Citing greed, hatred, racism, sexism, homophobia, poverty, violence and war, she said, "The magnificent dream pursued by my father is still a dream."

Rev. Jesse Jackson addressed that theme at a King Day rally in Chicago, calling for new action against poverty, joblessness and the lack of health insurance.

Yolanda King, a movie, theater and television actress, also gave the diverse audience a history lesson.

Outfitted in scarlet and in constant motion across the stage, she acted out scenes from the civil rights movement, including a young girl in Alabama in the 1950s, giddy in anticipation of a bus ride in which she will, for the first time, be free to sit wherever she chooses.

"Can you imagine, colored people can sit anywhere we want to on the bus!" she cried. "I bet old Jefferson Davis is turning over in his grave!"

Donning a head scarf and glasses, she played Rosa Parks, the woman who made that girl's happiness possible when, in 1955, she was arrested after refusing to give up her seat to a white person, sparking the Montgomery bus boycott, which helped bring Martin Luther King Jr. to national prominence.

She also portrayed the fear and chaos of a student facing down the fire hoses and police dogs that Birmingham Police Commissioner Eugene "Bull" Connor turned on protesters.

The images from those riots, broadcast on television, helped turn the nation against Southern segregation, she said.

"America was shocked," King said. "It's one thing to hear about [atrocities in the South], it's another thing to see them, sitting in your living room."

Though the protesters lost that first confrontation, national outrage resulting from TV coverage brought great pressure on Birmingham's officials, she said. Connor's men subsequently did not threaten the protesters.

"We today have the same power available to us," King said. "And we must choose to use it."

With a trace of bitterness, she implied that the radical ideas her father espoused, the same ones that got him killed, are often diluted during tributes to him. It is much easier to build monuments than change the system, she said.

"So now that he is safely dead, we will teach our children that he was a great man ..., knowing full well that the dream for which he died is still a dream," she said.

Students praised King's presentation.

"It was a great message, and I definitely think it falls by the wayside sometimes just because life in general is getting better," said Tonjua Jones, 19, a sophomore from Southfield, Mich.

"I thought the message was very hopeful," said Kathryn Schneider, 22, a senior from Glenview. "I felt like she was sending everyone off with the hope that we can make a difference in our smaller communities, starting on a smaller level and moving hopefully worldwide, especially in this time of crisis" in Iraq.

Meanwhile, Jackson was giving a fiery speech at the Chicago Hilton & Towers as part of the King commemoration by PUSH for Excellence. Civil rights activists must go back to the streets at a time of new troubles and injustice, Jackson said.

"Today, 45 million Americans have no health insurance. The middle class is sinking. There is a net loss of jobs in nearly every state. The poverty base is expanding. And so it is a time to march again" in "a new poor people's campaign" for jobs, justice, health care and education, he said.

Jackson, a one-time aide to King, also decried what he said was vote fraud in the 2004 presidential election.

"Dr. King knew progress was built on our voting franchise," he said. "Today, Republicans are shameless as we are disenfranchised, and Democrats are too passive and unwilling to defend their own interests by demanding a thorough investigation of the voter irregularities ..., voter-suppression tactics and violations of the Voting Rights Act.

"Leaders have gone to the West Bank, to Ukraine, and Kerry went to Iraq, checking on democracy." But few political leaders went to Ohio, where irregularities were rife, he said.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who also spoke at the commemoration, hailed progress helping minorities in Illinois.

The governor also released a study he commissioned a year ago to identify racial and other inequalities in Illinois. "Building Bridges and Closing Gaps: Disparities in Illinois" lists 12 problem areas and recent steps the state has taken to address them.

"Illinois finds itself in a moment pregnant with promise," said the study, written by Dr. Robert Starks of Northeastern Illinois University. "Despite alarming gaps in housing, health care, criminal justice, economic development and employment, the state has taken great strides in bridging the gaps."

Dysfunctional Denial. Bush has the worst civil rights record since emanciation. Who is Rice thanking, certainly not her boss !

Then why Condi has the administration you worked for have such a lousy Civil Rights Record?

My reply to an editorial in The New York Times that 'attempted to dismiss the Democrats questions of Ms. Rice as 'Political Theater.' That's nonsense. Ms. Rice is the woman that had a file on her desk with Osama bin Laden's name on it prior to 9/11.

"Come on now, it was more than poltical theater.

I watched while Condi Rice fell apart into an arrogant rage and stormed from the room declaring war on Senator Boxer.

Where were all of you?

First she answer the issue of Iraq with no insight except to say the Sentors knew more than she did.

CONDOLEEZZA RICE, SECRETARY OF STATE NOMINEE: The time for diplomacy is now.

SEN. JOE BIDEN (D), DELAWARE: And the time for diplomacy, in my view, is long overdue.

SEN. JOHN KERRY (D), MASSACHUSETTS: The current policy is growing the insurgency not diminishing it.

KERRY: The dynamics of the election could actually without the proper actions provide a greater capacity for civil war.

RICE: The political process, as you well know and you all know better than I, is one of coming to terms.

TERMS? Tell that to the dead. Dead Americans and Dead Innocent Women, Children and Elderly that our military has bombed and killed. Tell them they have to come to terms with it. Besides what are the Iraqis coming to terms with THE USA definition of the structure of their government or their own?

And Senator Boxer could not be ore correct. The entire Bush Administration as well as Bush himself sold out the truth for plays of power to facilitate cronies. And they are terrifying the American people. The Cable Networks are AGAIN taking the Rice Testimony to an all time high to start 'a new' the issue of WMD, nuclear proliferation conducting War Mongering in the name of 9/11. Next thing we know they'll be saying Iran was responsible for 9/11 as well.

SEN. BARBARA BOXER (D), CALIFORNIA: This is my personal view that your loyalty to the mission you were given to sell this war overwhelmed your respect for the truth and I don't say it lightly.

RICE: I have to say that I have never, ever lost respect for the truth in the service of anything. It is not my nature. It is not my character.

BOXER: If you were rolling out a new product, like a can opener, who would care about what we said? But this product is a war and people are dead and dying.

RICE: Senator, I'm happy to continue the discussion but I really hope that you will not imply that I take the truth lightly.

Where do the mistakes of this administration and it's bartering media stop???

This was in response to a New York Times Editorial 1.21.2005. I was astounded at the intended anestetic effect the New York Times continues propagate as 'controlled helplessness' on their part and the part of the victimized in this country. I profoundly believe the administration current occupying the Executive Branch of the USA governement is toxic to the public they 'control' and seek greater control over. Mr. Cheney boasted of his increasing 'power' as Vice President. His increasing power includes the ability to keep closed secret documents of the proceeding of his Energy Committee which included 'power brokers' from private industry. The Cheney Energy Report also included Graphic Use of the Caspian Sea as an energy source for the USA. I believe most whole heartedly that the illegal and immoral invasion into Iraq was a stepping stop to the Caspian Sea. The comments and references by Bush in his inaugural speech exudes a 'mission' that is illegal under even the USA Constitution and that is one of expansionism with invasion into sovereign lands that possess oil under the sand. A greater mission needed and certainly one of 'God' would be to extend every effort to stop the civil wars in Africa that result in genocide of the people there. THAT type of goal seems to be out of the question to Bush who seeks nothing but oil and profit and not 'moral' purposes for his nation. To acheive his goals he has gutted and is gutting the USA national Treasury, noting the very early resignation of his first Secretary of the Treasury even after the trauma of 9/11.

I hold Bush responsible for the attacks of 9/11 as the insitgator of it. He launched MDS on a Saturday in full public view long before the interceptor system was close to being ready. Any president in the history of this country never unveiled a weapon or weapon system until it was perfected. Bush didn't care about the protection of the people of this country he wanted an incident to send the country reeling into chaos and into war. He achieved such an incident with the successful attacks of 9/11. There were reports by the FBI noted by Senator Diane Feinstein regarding warnings of the impending attacks. Bush/Cheney ignored them. They ignored them for a purpose.

For this reason and other reasons they are pathologic and the world at every turn needs to defend from them. Prevention of war is paramount if we are to stop Global Warming and the deadly storms resulting from them.

My Reply to Bush's Inauguration Day

"The individual who occupies the White House is almost always at the center of American political life, but Inauguration Day is about the presidency, not the president..."

Fine.

It is plainly obvious those that see this administration as benevolent to the country and the world are completely out of touch with everything except an ideologue's ego. It's a shame really to come to the reality that people in this country actually need someone to tell them what is right and best. The country has been lead around by the nose for four tragic years and there is every indication that will continue. I feel sorry for people. I couldn't be more sincere. Half the country can't be wrong.

As an ideologue, Georgie remains in a world of his own making where he believes the USA is still the pinnacle of success and freedom when nothing is more from the truth. This country has never been in worse condition in every way. The USA has taken a face of 'Anti-Social' and 'Criminal' and I don't know if the world has had a greater enemy. At a time when the environment has become enemy number one Bush sees nothing more important than 'being a Boy Scout.'

The tragedy around the world is profound and the list far to long to list here, but, the natural disasters alone have killed hundreds of thousands of people in just the recent month.
The political tragedies coudln't be worse with the top of the list being the genocide in Dafur. It was Tony Blair who took the day, yesterday, in my opinion and not Bush. His analogy of Africa to the Indian Ocean Tsunami is a profound reality that should have been sounded from Washington, DC and not London. I believe the word Africa did not come off the lips of Walker Bush once yesterday from what I can discern in my inattention. Mr. Blair stated the African reality is that there is the amount of deaths per week equivalent to the deaths from the tsunami every week in Africa. He was poignant yesterday in the face of his Coalition counter part and I personally appreciate his dedication to purpose and reaching out to those of us in this country with a conscience and not an ideology. Thank you, Mr. Blair.

On the opposite political pole are the successes as those in The Ukraine. It is a relief to the suffering and even more so when one realizes the people of that country achieved it on their own and with a peaceful agenda having courts that backed them up even today seeking still an equitable settlement to the defeated of the election. The new president takes inauguration on Sunday.

The 'real' issues that could have been addressed yesterday at every turn weren't but deferred to ego driven role models.

No, thank you. The revenge of the weather was the greatest of satisfaction for me.

The time I invested in the political events of the last couple of days amount to a brief amount of time and yet I have a complete understanding of the agenda of this administration. It's juvenile to say the least, immature in it's fiscal responsiblity and negligent to the needs of the people of the USA while victimizing the needs of the people of Iraq and the Middle East. But, then that is what a child does, narcisstically victimizes their parents to find out what reality is all about. Hence, Georgie's ideologies.

I found the coverage at Michael Moore's site far more informing than anything anywhere else including the Sugar Coating New York Times. Michael has captured the day from the viewpoint of the other HALF of the nation. A complete one half of this country is not represented in DC. That is amazing, unfortunate and in my opinion dangerous.

Ideologues are chronically the most miserable people in the world.
