The National Park Service (click here) reportedly will use money intended to improve parks to pay for the amped up Fourth of July event in Washington, a move Democrats and advocacy groups say is a misuse of public funds.
The Washington Post reported on Tuesday night that the National Park Service will divert $2.5 million in money from entrance fees intended for maintenance to pay for the Salute to America events on Thursday....

Appropriations shall be applied only to the objects for which the appropriations were made except as otherwise provided by law....
This subpart contains provisions relating to the proper use of official time and authority, and of information and resources to which an employee has access because of his Federal employment. This subpart sets forth standards relating to:
(a) Use of public office for private gain;
(b) Use of nonpublic information;
(c) Use of Government property; and
(d) Use of official time.
