One of six Baltimore police officers (click here) charged in last month's death of Freddie Gray argues in a court filing that the knife found in the suspect's pocket after his arrest was illegal, contrary to what the city's top prosecutor has stated....
I suppose lawyers will try everything they know to get six police officers off the hook. The country of police officers are counting on them.
They can try and while six officers seem like a good cause beginning with the knifenthere is still man dead. He died in the custody of these police officers.
The courts will decide, but, there is no mistaking the fact these six officers never did a thing to protect the life of Freddie Gray.
Freddie Gray should be the nightmare the country SHOULD BE reacting to. We all know why people need to be concerned. These were six negligent police officers. A man in custody died. He was put in a van without a safety restraint and sustained injuries that died from. No one should be concerned about this community and it's very strange reality.
What a shame Baltimore decided to err on the side of a living human being over that of another dead black man. It was going so well in other parts of the country. It just seems like every police officer is above the anger of the black community. It is the police that put their lives on the line. So, what's the problem in Baltimore?
The problem in Baltimore is someone took notice a man was alive before he met up with aggressive and negligent treatment at the hand of police. There is room for corruption.
I mean you've got to be joking. Ferguson was as corrupt at the day is long. Michael Brown, Jr. should still be alive today. This isn't about good police work, it is about the corruption that is lining the country that manifests in dead black men.
While the lawyers appeal to the courts for the officers; the officers think the entire matter relies on the knife and the idea Freddy Gray was a criminal and he got what he deserved. Or. Better yet. Baltimore had a job description and required a suspect to be placed in the city's van. So it is the city at fault in providing dangerous vehicles to transport suspects to booking. The reasons these officers should be relieved from the charges is as numerous as their imagineering.
Freddie Gray was never secured to provide his protection while transported to booking. The multiple officers other than the driver didn't have a conscience enough to realize the man was suffering. The video alone shows a man unable to walk and in pain, emotional or otherwise.
The mental cruelty imposed on Mr. Gray isn't even discussed. Just imagine being in a van where no one has control of their body to protect themselves from injury. That's not mental cruelty? Your damn right it is. That aspect hasn't been discussed. I can only imagine what Mr. Gray went through in the back of that van with no one giving a damn about whether he could breath or whether he lived or died. Possessing a legal or illegal knife isn't a death sentence. It is called vigilantism and even cops can carry it out.
The police aren't doing the job the American people expect from them. Their unions need to get real about it, because, their union organizers are lucky it wasn't someone they knew in the back of that van. And what a shame the unions might be sued along with the city and whoever else qualifies for their name on a civil suit.
Baltimore has problems and the death of Freddy Gray is only one of them.
