I am sure having egotistical maniacs in the White House is helpful to Eric Prince, along with "Sis" on the Trump Cabinet.
Just as a point of interest while the information is notable. There may not be any Lancaster VI in service today. My error in understanding what plane Prince was looking for. His associates are known as the "Lancaster 6." Who knows why they are named after a WWII aircraft, probably has nothing to do with the aircraft. But, it was the first thing I keyed in on. I haven't kept an interest in "Blackwater" or Eric Prince. He successfully disappeared out of the focus of the media.

I thought the early calls for evacuation was a real change in the methodology of the USA. Someone heeded the idea these are not hurricanes the way hurricanes have been defined for decades. If Michael had only passed over Cuba it would have missed the hot water in the Gulf of Mexico and it would be a far more tamed storm. But, that isn't what occurred.
The brilliant minds at NASA knew Michael would touch the Gulf of Mexico and caught the moment it did.

In late winter 2017, Brian Benczkowski, who now awaits Trump's signature to become the newest assistant attorney general at the DOJ, briefly represented Alfa Bank, a Russian bank with close ties to Russian government officials that media outlets previously reported was a subject of the FBI’s probe of the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.
No one at Alfa has been charged with wrongdoing, and it is unclear if the bank is still part of any probe....

Besides the fact the Navy Mom was embarrassed by her political motives, the idea of false accusations is nothing new. Divorce cases have all kinds of accusations if it is a "Battle of the Roses." False accusations of violence of any kind, including sexual, is an attempt to improve the settlement in a divorce by the aggrieved or in a custody fight.
Accusations can be very real, but, in Guilford County, NC the Department of Social Services removed two children from a home because each parent was falsely accusing each other of being nasty for one reason or another. Both parents were sorry they started the accusations in their divorce declarations when the kids were taken to Foster Care. Public records are sometimes searched for child abuse by government employed social workers that are losing their jobs to private social services agencies that do a better and more compassionate job.
But, as to false charges that manifest into prosecution, there is a way of handling it and it is called "Malicious Prosecution."
So before a girlfriend or wife or both decide to file sexual abuse, harassment, assault or rape charges, they need to know they are on solid ground and usually, police officers responding to a domestic violence phone call can file those charges for the person effected. Women can also file a complaint independent of the police if that is more comfortable or POSSIBLE by approaching the county prosecutor's office or their local police department. If the safety of the person is hanging in the balance it can be handled by authorities to ensure the woman or man's safety.
Women have been second class citizens in the USA for a long time and most have been around that corner more than once. But, physical safety is important and there is a real thing called a stalker.
I was just looking at "Facebook" today and the office video looked very real. A woman was able to convince the man that held her captive in his home that her dog was in need of a veterinarian. He took her and the dog to the vet's office. They were in the waiting room when she decided she had left something in the car and asked her KEEPER to watch the dog and wait for the veterinarian for just a minute or so.
The woman about the age of 20 something went outside and scribbled on a piece of paper that the man with her was holding her against her will and he has a gun. The two women at the desk read the note and the women involved went back to the waiting room where her KEEPER was waiting with the dog.
The women at the desk called the police and five police officers were dispatched. Two male officers came out the door where the vet assistant usually calls clients into the examining room and they immediately limited the KEEPER's movements and pat him down. Needless to say, he was caught by surprise. Low and behold there in the back of his pants was a handgun and it was loaded. It looked like a semi-automatic 9 mm. He was arrested and handcuffed and removed to the waiting police car.
The three other officers came in through the front door and positioned themselves outside the waiting room. As soon as the KEEPER was apprehended they entered the room. One police officer was a female. She immediately went to the women and asked for her story. The women cried and then stood and showed them the bruises all over her body.
The KEEPER is going to be facing judges today that will not put up with sad stories or stories that frame the woman as if she deserved it.
This story is a victory for the #MeToo movement. It is a global phenomenon and it is disconcerting it is within the borders of the USA. The movement is absolutely necessary and it is incredibly empowering to women in the USA and around the world. It is time to make this stand and not falter into oppression by the likes of Donald Trump, the Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch and FOX News.
Women are becoming stronger and there are more and more stories coming out of a society that should be fully ashamed of itself for the way women have been forced into second-class citizenship.
I don't want to hear all the SUPPOSED stories by men of false accusations and I certainly don't want to hear how judges are going light on those charged with these crimes. Enough. No more spiked drinks, no more beatings, no more unwholesome relationships.
Men need to begin to understand they are not allowed to be "robust" in their relationships when demanding sex without mutual consent. I read an article where a mother complained a son would no longer go out on a date without another couple involved. THAT DOESN'T PROTECT HIM. Who knows what the women face with two men now. Witnesses for each other?
The best way to avoid being falsely accused is to be in public where there are many uninterested observers. Strangers accounts are better than friends. So, date "in the open" and go as a couple, but, simply set the tone as the date progresses and neither party should expect sex to occur when the date begins. If consensual sex occurs, I sincerely hope they know each other enough to know the odds of getting STDs as well, including HIV. I mean do we have to have this conversation?
Being drunk is not an excuse either. Drinking responsibly is the social standard and without approaching dying because someone participated in some kind of drinking game in a bar. And college campuses need to be prepared for angry parents and students if heavy drinking is allowed on campus and in dorms. This is the age of responsibility and there is no reason to look the other way anymore.
Needless to say, the legislators in the US Senate that placed Kavanaugh at the Supreme Court are not interested in women's issues or their resolve. Donald Trump ABSOLUTELY IS NOT interested in women's issue and their resolve. We have a president with enough of his own complaints about his irresponsible sexual behavior. It is time the electorate KNOCK IT OFF and act responsibly in the polling booth. Trump and his Senate allies are NOT the answer for any reason.

So before a girlfriend or wife or both decide to file sexual abuse, harassment, assault or rape charges, they need to know they are on solid ground and usually, police officers responding to a domestic violence phone call can file those charges for the person effected. Women can also file a complaint independent of the police if that is more comfortable or POSSIBLE by approaching the county prosecutor's office or their local police department. If the safety of the person is hanging in the balance it can be handled by authorities to ensure the woman or man's safety.
Women have been second class citizens in the USA for a long time and most have been around that corner more than once. But, physical safety is important and there is a real thing called a stalker.
I was just looking at "Facebook" today and the office video looked very real. A woman was able to convince the man that held her captive in his home that her dog was in need of a veterinarian. He took her and the dog to the vet's office. They were in the waiting room when she decided she had left something in the car and asked her KEEPER to watch the dog and wait for the veterinarian for just a minute or so.
The woman about the age of 20 something went outside and scribbled on a piece of paper that the man with her was holding her against her will and he has a gun. The two women at the desk read the note and the women involved went back to the waiting room where her KEEPER was waiting with the dog.
The women at the desk called the police and five police officers were dispatched. Two male officers came out the door where the vet assistant usually calls clients into the examining room and they immediately limited the KEEPER's movements and pat him down. Needless to say, he was caught by surprise. Low and behold there in the back of his pants was a handgun and it was loaded. It looked like a semi-automatic 9 mm. He was arrested and handcuffed and removed to the waiting police car.
The three other officers came in through the front door and positioned themselves outside the waiting room. As soon as the KEEPER was apprehended they entered the room. One police officer was a female. She immediately went to the women and asked for her story. The women cried and then stood and showed them the bruises all over her body.
The KEEPER is going to be facing judges today that will not put up with sad stories or stories that frame the woman as if she deserved it.
This story is a victory for the #MeToo movement. It is a global phenomenon and it is disconcerting it is within the borders of the USA. The movement is absolutely necessary and it is incredibly empowering to women in the USA and around the world. It is time to make this stand and not falter into oppression by the likes of Donald Trump, the Wall Street Journal, Rupert Murdoch and FOX News.
Women are becoming stronger and there are more and more stories coming out of a society that should be fully ashamed of itself for the way women have been forced into second-class citizenship.
I don't want to hear all the SUPPOSED stories by men of false accusations and I certainly don't want to hear how judges are going light on those charged with these crimes. Enough. No more spiked drinks, no more beatings, no more unwholesome relationships.
Men need to begin to understand they are not allowed to be "robust" in their relationships when demanding sex without mutual consent. I read an article where a mother complained a son would no longer go out on a date without another couple involved. THAT DOESN'T PROTECT HIM. Who knows what the women face with two men now. Witnesses for each other?
The best way to avoid being falsely accused is to be in public where there are many uninterested observers. Strangers accounts are better than friends. So, date "in the open" and go as a couple, but, simply set the tone as the date progresses and neither party should expect sex to occur when the date begins. If consensual sex occurs, I sincerely hope they know each other enough to know the odds of getting STDs as well, including HIV. I mean do we have to have this conversation?
Being drunk is not an excuse either. Drinking responsibly is the social standard and without approaching dying because someone participated in some kind of drinking game in a bar. And college campuses need to be prepared for angry parents and students if heavy drinking is allowed on campus and in dorms. This is the age of responsibility and there is no reason to look the other way anymore.
Needless to say, the legislators in the US Senate that placed Kavanaugh at the Supreme Court are not interested in women's issues or their resolve. Donald Trump ABSOLUTELY IS NOT interested in women's issue and their resolve. We have a president with enough of his own complaints about his irresponsible sexual behavior. It is time the electorate KNOCK IT OFF and act responsibly in the polling booth. Trump and his Senate allies are NOT the answer for any reason.

Many planets are known to exist beyond our solar system. But there has been no confirmation of a moon on the outside.
The possible moon appears considerably larger than Earth and is 8,000 light years away. Astronomers say the object is about the size of the planet Neptune. It orbits a planet that is similar in size to the large planet Jupiter.
Alex Teachey and David Kipping of Columbia University recently presented their findings.
The researchers studied 284 planets discovered by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope. Only one planet, Kepler-1625b, held promise of a possible moon. That planet orbits the star Kepler-1625.
Last October, the researchers aimed the Hubble Space Telescope at the star to study the possibility of a moon nearby.
They were looking for momentary light decreases from the star. The planet itself blocks the light temporarily when it passes in front of Kepler-1625. A second lesser decrease could mean a moon was passing as well.

It will be a key scientific input into the Katowice Climate Change Conference in Poland in December, when governments review the Paris Agreement to tackle climate change....

The world must invest $2.4trn in clean energy every year through 2035 (click here) and cut the use of coal-fired power to almost nothing by 2050 to avoid catastrophic damage from climate change, according to scientists convened by the United Nations (UN).
Their report published Monday adds pressure on policymakers and businesses to step up their response to global warming, which is boosting sea levels, making storms more violent and exacerbating poverty. The atmosphere is already almost 1 degree Celsius hotter than it was at the start of the industrial revolution and on track to rise 3 degrees by 2100, according to the report.
That’s double the pace targeted under the 2015 Paris climate agreements endorsed by almost 200 nations.
“We are already seeing the consequences of 1 degree of global warming through more extreme weather, rising sea levels and diminishing Arctic sea ice,” said Panmao Zhai, one of the co-chairs of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which brought together the work of hundreds of researchers and thousands of scientific papers.
Even a rise of 1.5 degrees would have massive consequences, including a “multi-meter rise in sea levels” over hundreds to thousands of years and a mass extinction of plants and animals. With a temperature increase of that scale, of the 105 000 species studied, 6% of insects, 8% of plants and 4% of vertebrates lose half their habitat. Those proportions double with a 2 degree gain....

The Paris Agreement (click here) is the new global agreement on climate change. It was adopted by Parties under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on 12 December 2015. It commits all countries to take action on climate change.
The Paris Agreement entered into force on 4 November 2016 and will take effect from 2020. This means New Zealand’s commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), will apply from 2021. New Zealand’s NDC is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.
The purpose of the Paris Agreement is to:
- keep the global average temperature well below 2° C above pre-industrial levels, while pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5° C
- strengthen the ability of countries to deal with the impacts of climate change
- make sure that financial flows support the development of low-carbon and climate-resilient economies.
The agreement provides a framework for the global response to climate change. Detailed rules, including the rules about the use of markets and the accounting for the land sector, will be negotiated from now until 2020....
Every country on Earth signed onto the Paris Accords. Then the USA under Trump welshed on it's participation to cater to the petroleum industry.
In November 2015, (click here) the New Zealand Government submitted an addendum to our INDC [UNFCCC website].
The addendum clarifies New Zealand's assumptions about accounting for human-generated greenhouse gas emissions and removals from forestry and other land use underpinning the INDC. These assumptions will inform New Zealand's participation in the negotiations on a new global climate change agreement.
The approach described in the addendum builds on the forestry accounting rules under the Kyoto Protocol which New Zealand currently uses to account for forestry emissions and removals. Under this approach, New Zealand would continue to earn credits for afforestation, and be liable for deforestation, while accommodating the ongoing cyclical effects of forest harvest and regrowth that occur as part of normal, sustainable forest management.
Our NDC is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030....

Still not convinced (click here) the Earth is rapidly warming? Consider this: The last time the global monthly temperature was below average was February 1985.
That means if you are 30 years old or younger, there has not been a single month in your entire life that was colder than average.

He added it likely won’t be long before that same age bracket has experienced only above-average temperatures....
New Zealand counts their population every five yeras.
New Zealand's current population is estimated at just over 4.75 million in 2018. The most recent census was held in 2018 but these results have not been released yet, however, we have the data from the previous census in 2013 when the total population was counted as 4,242,048.

The presentation of CO/sub 2/ is only a brief review of the current state of thinking. The magnitudes of the natural emanations of a variety of materials have also been considered although we must admit that the means of estimating these emissions are very crude because so little study has been made of emissions from other than urban air pollution sources.

- Longer summers with higher temperatures and lower rainfall will reduce soil moisture and groundwater supplies.
- Drought intensity will likely increase over time. Drier conditions in some areas are likely to be coupled with more frequent droughts.
- River flows are likely to be lower in summer and higher in winter.
- Lower river flows in summer will raise water temperatures and aggravate water quality problems (eg, through increased algae growth)....

...More to the point, (click here) it was more common than one would imagine for long-dead bodies to surface in melting glaciers.
Almost exactly a year earlier, in July 2016, the remains of a German skier missing since 1963 were found on a glacier in eastern Switzerland, near the Italian border. The year before that, two Japanese men who tried to climb the Matterhorn in 1970 were found far down the mountain. In 2012, the skeletons of Johann, Cletus, and Fidelis Ebener turned up on the Aletsch glacier, 86 years after they vanished. And Theiler couldn't know it yet, but a month later a German hiker last seen in 1987 would be dug out of another glacier in Valais, the same canton where he found the two bodies at the bottom of an intermediate ski run.
People have been disappearing on glaciers for as long as people have been walking on glaciers. And for most of human history, they were simply gone, vanished, entombed in a hopelessly deep, dense river of ice, carried away by a slow, grinding current. How many, no one knows, because that number is lost to time. For a benchmark, though: Since 1925 (when records first began to be kept), almost 300 people have disappeared in Valais alone, though not all, of course, on a glacier....
...According to one recent study, the glacier atop Alaska's Mount Hunter is melting at the fastest rate in 400 years. Colombia's glaciers have thinned by a third since the mid-1990s and are on track to disappear entirely in 30 years. In the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau, two-thirds of the glacial mass could be gone by the turn of the century. And Glacier National Park in Montana—which was named for the 150 or so glaciers once there—today has fewer than 30. “The rate of change now in the mountain glaciers is already faster than anything we see in the geological record,” says Joerg M. Schaefer, a climate geochemist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. “They just fly back. And it's accelerating.”...
This rapid melt is not surprising to me. The heat of infrared is building in altitude. As years and not even decades go by now, the heat is rising to thousands of feet and not simply to the frost line as was the case not long ago. At least it doesn't seem long ago to me, about three decades have passed since the worst of the warming began.
As the heat rises in altitude there will be faster melting of snow and glaciers. The problem with the heat melting the snow is that ends the recharge of the glacier. Recharge occurs over time with a great deal of weight of the snow year after year accumulation. When the snow melts there is no recharge and then the glacier begins to deteriorate because there is no recharge and the heat is directly against the ice. Glacier ice is dense and beautiful, but, the melting point is still just above zero degrees Centigrade.

The effect is utterly disorienting, every landmark erased, no spatial cues, not even footprints, to confirm that you've turned one way or another. The visible world restricts to inches, which is a dangerously short distance at 3,000 meters. It was more dangerous eight decades ago, or ten, or a thousand, when the glacier was still massive, a wide, fat sheet deep as a frozen lake, gouged with cracks 30, 40, even 50 meters deep. One step in the fog could easily be a step into oblivion. Which is what most likely happened to the mummies at the bottom of the intermediate slope....
It is s beautifully written article. As a side note there are modern day map finders that will help on any hike or slope. However, that is not a communication device. It provides the user with her/his location to navigate a transect or the road less traveled.
There are also apps that can help that take into account mountain terrain. But, to be as safe as possible there are "Trackers" that follow the course one has chosen. The one below is an example.

The dangers the lost people encountered are real even today. But, also is the added uncertainty of melting ice and not simply melt water. Today, running melt water is also a concern. These are beautiful adventures and those that can should pursue them, but, to it with full knowledge of what you may encounter. There is no guarantee with the Climate Crisis, however.
Or perhaps it is best said by the sign at the Les Diablerets gift shop in three different languages, “Weather conditions can change rapidly. We invite you to be careful and to follow marked tracks. Be particularly careful in the event of fog or snowfall."

This rapid melt is not surprising to me. The heat of infrared is building in altitude. As years and not even decades go by now, the heat is rising to thousands of feet and not simply to the frost line as was the case not long ago. At least it doesn't seem long ago to me, about three decades have passed since the worst of the warming began.
