The stepfather (click here) of Sean Collier submitted a victim impact statement Wednesday in the obstruction of justice case against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s college friend. 

Joseph W. Rogers wrote the murder of his stepson, an MIT police officer, by the Tsarnaev brothers “could absolutely have been prevented” after the Boston Marathon bombings if the defendant, Dias Kadyrbayev, did the “right thing.”

"In that moment, there was no one to protect him because no one spoke up and no one cared enough about his life to do the right thing, to make the call that he would have made, to change the fate of our family, the Donohue family, and the families of the other officers the Tsarnaev brothers sought to murder that night...."

The FIFA investigation and charges are based in long time USA jurisdiction. There is nothing prohibiting the function of FIFA; only the arrest of those violating the law.

Banks use wires for immediate exchange of monies. If any bank within US interests commits these crimes there are profound consequences. What is Russia afraid of? Conspiracy to defraud? Russia should not be worried if their dealings are open and above the law.

The World Cup is enormously important to citizens globally. It's international status does not exempt it from the laws governing activities within the boundaries of any sovereign country, including Russia. If a country wants to look the other way it only makes it a co-conspirator to commit fraud. I strongly suggest President Putin realize his responsibility in exposing any fraud in Russia. 

The esteem of countries in relation to international recognition and status when it comes to The World Cup is only second to the Olympics. It is vitally important these organizations remain intact in their legal status to exist and transact business. 

Certainly, President Putin understands the importance of such international athletic events as Russia recently hosted the Winter Olympics. The athletes have a far greater investment than the business of any such event. The athletes invest in a pursuit only few can achieve. The athletes deserve the best of management of these international events. It is the purity to purpose, ie: Lance Armstrong; international competition deserves the attention of fans and would be hopefuls. I hope Russia hasn't lost that focus in understanding how important ideals are in athletic competition.

If memory serves me well, President Putin needed to make a trip to the ice rink in the past Olympics to insure the esteem of the athletes were being honored by all the judges. Honestly. Russia should be leading the demand for perfection to return. President Putin is too upset and perhaps we all understand his passion. 

When the facts are made obvious in trial, I am sure a refund of all bribery will be repaid. It is understandable how countries get caught up in these crimes and it will have to be assessed when sentences are levied. 

Every country with competition and/or fans to competition has a vested interest. Considering countries such as Russia and Brazil are considered emerging economies the entire dynamic has to be stabilized. These investigations and charges are important to all, not just the USA.

It is possible for Nations of people to live through disputes and emerge as a stronger and more prosperous people. Violent war solves nothing and destroys any infrastructure including natural resources. 

Peace is within reach. 

The salty balance of the oceans are in question as well.

Over time the states will turn toward desalination to insure people have water in their lives. The complaint about desalination is the by-product of sea salt.

Sea salt is produced through evaporation of ocean water or water from saltwater lakes, usually with little processing. Depending on the water source, this leaves behind certain trace minerals and elements. The minerals add flavor and color to sea salt, which also comes in a variety of coarseness levels.

Table salt is typically mined from underground salt deposits. Table salt is more heavily processed to eliminate minerals and usually contains an additive to prevent clumping. Most table salt also has added iodine, an essential nutrient that helps maintain a healthy thyroid....

As time passes with sea level rise in short order and the sea water becomes more dilute changing the saltiness of the ocean waters becomes a reality. The sea salt from desalination may have to be re-deposited into the ocean waters to insure the osmotic balance to sea life. 

The food chain of Earth demands very ridge needs including a specific saltiness of the ocean. Scientists will be monitoring that salinity of the oceans and the salt that comes out of the ocean in desalination to decide if it has to be put back. Time will tell. These are the issues we need to understand.

Currently, the greatest danger to marine life is the changing pH called acidification. 

The Climate Crisis is real. There has to be solid resolve to end the greenhouse gas pollution.  

As sea water becomes a source of water for human consumption, the idea of offshore oil production becomes hideous.

Two federal agencies (click here) issued an order Wednesday to ensure that Plains All American Pipeline finishes the cleanup of what they call the largest coastal oil spill in California in 25 years.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Coast Guard issued the joint Clean Water Act order to ensure the cleanup of heavy crude on land, at the shoreline and in the ocean, to contain the oil and to prevent further contamination.

Representatives from the two agencies said at a news conference that such an order is common in spills and is not in response to any inaction by Plains All America.

Meanwhile, the company said Wednesday it is coming closer to excavating and removing the burst section of pipeline, saying it could happen by the end of the day....

The states being inundated with water needs to come to terms with the reality of stalled weather systems.

Stalled weather systems have been the reality of the USA at least for the past year. It isn't going to change anytime soon.

The new facility will not only investigate water and it's dynamics on a warming Earth, it will bring an understanding of sea level rise in relation to the new physics Earth is yielding.

The European football body Uefa will decide whether to boycott Friday's vote for the next Fifa president.

Incumbent Sepp Blatter has yet to appear in public since the arrests.

Mr Blatter, who is hoping to secure a fifth term at Fifa's congress in the Swiss city of Zurich on Thursday, was not named in the corruption investigations.

Sponsors have become sensitive to the will and opinion of the people. Rightfully so. Sponsors lend their name and the name of their products to be recognized by the people/fans that come to events that matter to them. 

The World Cup survived in the face of corruption. It survived because of the will of the global community. It is powerful to realize the people kept the event at the center of importance in the mission of The World Cup. It does have a mission. It will continue to have a mission and it will be an incredible renewal. 

If The World Cup can carry the brevity it did from it's inception in the face of corruption it will be magnificent when there is leadership that loves the mission more than the money that leads to person wealth.

We have witnessed the will of the people of the countries and nations that participate in The World Cup. It is amazing to come to terms with the mission of The World Cup and it's success. In the participation of the countries is to realize how much closer they hae all come to compete on a level playing field. The referees have been incredible. They have kept the event center on fairness.

It is sad to realize how the leadership took advantage of an event that brings the world's attention to center stage for a month every year. 

I congratulate the people that come to the stands and crowds to support their teams and find a part in the event. The World Cup exists because of the crowds and the passion for the sport.

"US News" owes Pope Francis an apology.

The tone is way out of line. I do believe the Pope knows more about the condition of the poor and state of humanity than "US News" could ever hope to know, yet understand.

Hernando de Soto? Really? That might better explain the global economic collapse if Wall Street is holding centuries old theory in their hearts. 

Mr. de Soto lived over a half millenium ago. More than 500 years. He never made it very far into South America. He discovered the Mississippi River.  Not only that, but, he was European. Does US News know what Europe did to South America? 

Small pox, turned the native South Americans into slaves to mine silver and all the silver was taken to Europe without any benefits to the people of South America. 

Now, if that is the kind of economics Wall Street endears as their own, it explains why we are suffering under dense measures of carbon dioxide and why Americans have an entire class of people called, "The Working Poor."  

Does US News want to know what they can do with their criticism of Pope Francis, a man only a breath away from being a saint? Let's just say, the devil is well served by Wall Street.

Pope Francis (click here) revealed several days ago that he has not watched television since 1990. Listen to him and look at those big glasses, and you know that this is a guy with a pile of books on his nightstand. There is one book, however, that I doubt the pope has read – the same book the pope must read if he is to avoid harming the world's poor in his well-meaning but sometimes naive declarations about poverty. 

That book is by one of the pope's great South American contemporaries, an economist named Hernando de Soto who wrote "The Other Path: The Invisible Revolution in the Third World." While he's at it, the pope would do well to get to know some of de Soto's more recent writings and the work of his Lima-based Institute for Liberty and Democracy.

No fair observer would deny that the pope's relentless focus on poverty is central to his Christian identity. After all, what are gospels if not the story of a man who lived among the poor, preached principally to the poor, and possessed nothing but a pair of sandals and a robe at the time of his crucifixion?

Is he running for priest? When does the stoning begin?

Do Republicans ever regret being silly? The water's edge. It sounds like a sympathetic statement for Texas. 

If Marco Rubio fears the First Amendment than say he fears for the First Amendment. There is a separation of church and state. It is up to him to prove his point of view. He obviously hasn't paid attention to Pope Francis lately.

Republican presidential contender (click here) and super thirsty guy Marco Rubio is worried that marriage equality is the first slippery step onto a very slippery slope toward labeling the Bible hate speech. Or something.

“If you think about it, we are at the water’s edge of the argument that mainstream Christian teaching is hate speech,” Rubio, who is Catholic, said Tuesday during an interview with the CBN News. “Because today we’ve reached the point in our society where if you do not support same-sex marriage you are labeled a homophobe and a hater.”

“So what’s the next step after that?” he continued. “After they are done going after individuals, the next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the catechism of the Catholic Church is hate speech. And there’s a real and present danger.”

It’s hard to imagine that even Rubio believes what he’s saying here, but who knows. Massachusetts has been issuing marriage licenses to gay couples since 2004, and, last I checked, the state hasn’t moved to raze its Catholic churches or strip Boston College of its charter. Ditto for seriously every other state that has legalized equal marriage....

The large majority of Nebraska's executions were never carried out. Many were commuted. To commute a death penalty sentence shows lack of confidence in the decision. Interesting.

Jeremy Sheets (click here) had his sentence vacated and was released directly from death row in Nebraska.

Jeremy Sheets, a member of the Witness to Innocence organization, came to KU to speak to students and faculty about his experience on death row and about certain aspects of the U.S. criminal justice system. 

Witness to Innocence is an organization of death row exonerees who are striving to educate the public about the death penalty and to eliminate it from our justice system. According to the organization, Witness to Innocence, “Sheets was arrested for the 1992 rape and murder of 17-year-old Honors student Kenyatta Bush in Omaha. He was convicted in 1997 based exclusively on a taped confession made by his co-defendant, Adam Barnett.”...

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hamas (click here) used the cover of last summer’s conflict with Israel to torture and kill Palestinians from rival factions, according to a new report.

“‘Strangling Necks’: Abduction, torture and summary killings of Palestinians by Hamas forces during the 2014 Gaza/Israel conflict,” a report released on Wednesday by Amnesty International, highlights the extrajudicial execution of at least 23 Palestinians and the arrest and torture of dozens of others, including members and supporters of Fatah, the party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, a Hamas political rival.

During the 50-day conflict in July and August 2014, Hamas “took the opportunity to ruthlessly settle scores, carrying out a series of unlawful killings and other grave abuses,” said Philip Luther, director of the Middle East and North Africa Program at Amnesty International....

The murders were in response to the Israeli invasion. The people murdered were prisoners or viewed as sympathizers to Israel. These are not random murders, they were due to the Israeli aggression. It wasn't mad men simply killing to satisfy their own aggression.

People are used to thinking about their vulerability when it comes to rapidly rising water.

Extreme weather (click here) has been wreaking havoc in the US, where storms and tornadoes have caused major flooding in the states of Oklahoma and Texas. 

Parts of Houston - the US's fourth biggest city - remain under water.

Thousands of cars have been abandoned on city streets and highways. 

Hundreds of residents have been displaced and more than 1,000 homes have been destroyed. 

At least 17 people have been killed and dozens injured following record rainfall over the weekend.

More heavy rains are expected over the next few days. 

From what I hear and read the one example focused on was the loss of a mother and two children as the house they were in came off it's moorings. 

So, how do reasonable and intelligence people become victims to this severe flooding?

Water will rise quickly when met with resistance to it's flow. In this very troubling reality, the house shattered when it hit a bridge downstream from it's property. It is my guess, without having specific information, the water was rapidly flowing under the bridge. It reached a tipping point as the water rushed into the basin which became very saturated with rain. 

As the water rose quickly, at some point the bridge became a dam and increased the water levels very fast and without reason. 

There is no way of knowing about any one particular fact people can focus on to predict their danger. If a house is within a flood plain it will be lost during these storms. I am going to insult many local governments because I could never understand how homes are allowed to be built in a flood zone. It is playing the odds that are very unpredictable.

Beach houses regularly face rising waters when significantly powerful storms drive water toward shore in a manner called a storm surge. Inland properties can have a storm surge, too. It is different than that of the beach communities. It doesn't come from one distance, it comes from the ground up. 

I don't know how many times I wished the weather jargon was simply thrown out to begin language applicable to the Climate Crisis.

I think Bloomberg got it the most correct of all the "It's El Nino" propaganda.

All five NINO indexes, (click here) averaged over the past four weeks, exceeded plus 1 degree Celsius, the bureau said in its fortnightly update on Tuesday. That’s the first time this has occurred since the 1997-1998 El Nino, the bureau said.

It is not exclusively a NORMAL "El Nino" causing the devastating and record setting floods in Texas. 

The entire length of time I have observed and wrote about the Climate Crisis there was nothing NORMAL about it. The weather jargon has always given fuzzy and politically correct reasons to lie about the dynamics of the danger.

The outlook about the Climate Crisis has always been dim. The largest greenhouse gas polluter, namely the USA, was denying the dangers of this warming climate of Earth. The demands made in the late 1950s and entire of 1960s was dismissed as Tree Huggers. The politics never aligned with the TRUTH.  

The facts before those heralding the call of danger was obvious. The professional weather forecasters on the other hand never changed their jargon and in that simple lack of will carried out a profound denial.

Earth has physics to account for the miracle of life on a singular planet orbiting Sol. I am sure Earth is not so much the exception, but, the rule throughout our universe. Earth occurs in a habitable zone around Sol. I am sure NASA can point to many habitable zones in other planetary systems. 

The physics of the Climate Crisis is not terribly odd. The usual hurricanes occur and the usual tornadoes occur, but, these storms now exist under a far hotter dome of greenhouse gases. So, the warmer and warming Earth has the same phenomena, but, on steroids. 

So, when I hear professionals talk about weather related issues without changing the emphasis on the "One Degree Hotter" hurricane or "One Degree Hotter" tornado outbreak it doesn't surprise me. The story of the Climate Crisis was told by President Obama and without him it would still be in The Stone Age with etchings on a cave wall.

There is no more El Nino or El Nina. There is no more hurricane season or tornado season. There is annual numbers of high velocity storms, including hurricanes and tornadoes. The jargon of old is simply that. It is numbers of degree stronger the storms are now. It is the dual manifestation of 'sister/brother tornadoes.' It is the ever closing predicted Category Six hurricane that will appear in the larger Pacific Ocean in the next year or two. 

The heat is increasing. The air masses move by Coriolis. And Earth is slowing by just a smidgen every year because the Jet Stream no longer dominates the air circulation of Earth.

It is "The Climate Crisis." 

End of discussion.

The political right wants the "low information voter,' but, is not willing to completely throw away a potlical win because of it.

This appeared in The Huffington Post in April of 2014. The political right wing is simply playing with the topic, including Huckabee. They don't want to appear to have abandoned unreasonable. I don't know when they were going to get around to stating they accept Same Sex Marriage, perhaps as an October Surprise.

At its core, the reversal raised a stark question: Can you be an evangelical and support same-sex marriage?
Reverberations from the policy flip-flop continue to unfold. Last week, Jacquelline Fuller, director of corporate giving at Google, resigned from the international relief organization’s board. Faithful America, an online Christian community focused on social justice, had gathered 16,000 signatures calling for Fuller and John Park, another Google employee who sits on the World Vision board, to step down.
“Jacquelline Fuller did the right thing by resigning from the board of an organization whose values don’t align with Google’s commitment to inclusivity and equality,” Michael Sherrard, director of Faithful America, said in a statement. “Now it’s time for John Park to follow suit.”...

Right wingers are being proved to be highly discriminatory in regard to this issue.

Twitter has also suspended a series of Johnson's new accounts, including @citizentrolling and @freechucknow, prompting Johnson and his lawyers to threaten legal action and accuse the site of "censorship."...

The many stories of gun violence in the USA should be on record at the United Nations.

Some of the organizations formed after the deaths of African American men in the USA can also be profound testimony to important facts regarding the deaths of their sons and husbands. The racial divide in gun deaths can find different definitions, but, no less important.

The violent deaths of citizens in the USA span all demographics, but, have some degree of cultural differences. The best way I can put this and it is not intended to insult or diminish any death; but, the death of the people of Sandy Hook including so many children is a different dynamic than the death of Trayvon Martin or those African Americans shot for no reason with police work.

There are also troubled neighborhoods causing deaths such as Hadiya Pendleton, a beautiful young African American woman in Chicago.

As first lady Michelle Obama (click here) and mourners paid their respects, a Chicago family buried a 15-year-old girl Saturday amid renewed calls for an end to gun violence.
Hadiya Pendleton, an honors student and band majorette in prep school, died after being shot while talking with friends on Jan. 29, little more than a week after visiting Washington to perform at an event for President Obama's second inauguration....

The variety of these deaths within the cultures they occurred all have a common denominator; guns. The cultures are not at fault, but, the easy access to guns definitely is the problem.

What has been completely astounding to me has been the shooting and deaths with US Representative Gabby Giffords. There were many people effected by this gunman. She was a member of the US House of Representatives. The impact of a government official, a judge and the staff members of those federal offices meant nearly nothing to the US House. There was a bill passed about flying drugs or something across the the USA southern border in honor and remembrance of this shooting incident. It was a bill that had no relevance to the deaths or shooting at this government function in Arizona.

The point is the political density of guns within the American electorate and elections over rides any call by government representatives to act to end such violence. It is unbelievably difficult to move any measure through the US House and Senate that would hinder gun violence in the USA and/or it's exportation albeit illegally. 

The US Second Amendment to the Constitution has nothing to do with it. There are decisions as written by Justice Scalia regarding the Second Amendment that would indicate laws controlling guns in the country and the role they play in society can be regulated. This is political. It is backed by large amounts of money.

The dysfunction of the this political paradigm the USA finds itself entrenched and is feeding itself. It is self-propagating. The money has been gathered by very few in the world and even fewer in the USA. The injustice of poverty is well known to the United Nations, but, in the case of the USA I have to state there was a bloodless coup that has occurred. The complete disregard of the near death of Rep. Giffords told me all I wanted to know about the tragedy of a power shift in the USA.

The United Nations cites the USA on human rights abuses, including the deaths by police officers of minority men.

The United States was slammed (click here) over its rights record Monday at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, with member nations criticizing the country for police violence and racial discrimination, the Guantánamo Bay Detention Facility and the continued use of the death penalty. 

The issue of racism and police brutality dominated the discussion on Monday during the country’s second universal periodic review (UPR). Country after country recommended that the U.S. strengthen legislation and expand training to eliminate racism and excessive use of force by law enforcement.

"I'm not surprised that the world's eyes are focused on police issues in the U.S.," said Alba Morales, who investigates the U.S. criminal justice system at Human Rights Watch.

"There is an international spotlight that's been shone [on the issues], in large part due to the events in Ferguson and the disproportionate police response to even peaceful protesters," she said....

Part of the human rights abuses cited by the United Nations revolves around Congressional dysfunction. That is extremely true about the Guantanamo Bay Detention Facility.

The media has been citing an uptick in violence in it's cities. What is surprising about that? I doubt it has to do with warmer temperatures, unless one is referring to the heated anger of USA city's populations.  

I am grateful to the United Nations in recognizing a long standing problem that continues today. 

The problem within the police force is that they have written into their actions the long overused defense "My life was under threat." Their lawyers and/or advisers, including union advisers, simply pull the best EXCUSE out of a bag of tricks and it is honored by laws in the USA. Such legal calisthenics is a manipulation of the laws of the USA. It is supported by a willingness of city governments to respect the idea 'the truth is lost' if an officer decides it doesn't work in his or her favor. 

It is common to hear the excuse making by city officials. One of the most dramatic examples recently of that is Tulsa, Oklahoma (click here). At first the death of Eric Courtney Harris was being stated as routine in the work of the police of that city. When the video was released and it was obvious Mr. Harris died an unnecessary death, the City of Tulsa did a complete pivot about the legitimacy of Mr. Harris's death. Tulsa also exhibited a willingness to put poorly trained individuals with fraudulent or outdated records on the street with the right to use a gun against citizens. 

The issues the USA faces today is heightened gun violence by the extremely high number of guns in the USA. The gun industry is causing more than violence in the USA, it is also exporting munitions to places such as Mexico. So, while the problems of violence does belong to the USA it also has exported that violence. In the case of Mexico, there are drug cartels within an anarchy that challenges its' sovereignty.

It is incredible to realize the extent USA violence effects most countries with unrest today. And to realize the supply of guns into the markets in years past, it can be said the USA is more of a problem than most are willing to state. 

The dysfunction of the USA Congress is reflected in all these problems. The gun industry is as responsible for human rights abuses as the country itself. The Congressional members that find it politically convenient to state extremist positions regarding guns, both domestically and internationally, are more the problem in all human rights violations cited by the UN. 

The media is citing this past weekend as a very violent time in the USA. I doubt that will result in any significant gun laws and the deaths will continue both domestically and internationally. If the country involved was different than the USA a UN resolution would be on the lips of the UN Defense Council. But, given the USA is a permanent member any citation would be vetoed. It might be a good idea to propose an United Nation's Resolution anyway. It will be vetoed, but, it will be on the record. 

The anti-gun groups such as the ones created by victims like Sandy Hook and Former US Representative Gabby Giffords can use this decision by the United Nations to promote their policies.  

I am sure if the United Nations invited any of these victims and/or their families to speak at the United Nations, they would be honored to do so.
