The glacier is at the end of the Northeast Greenland Ice Stream, where it flows off land and into the ocean. Scientists with National Geological Survey see it as evidence of rapid climate change leading to the disintegration of the Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf.
A 44-square-mile chunk of ice, (click here) about twice the size of Manhattan, has broken off the Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf in northeast Greenland in the last two years, leaving scientists fearful over its rapid disintegration.
The territory's ice sheet is the second biggest in the world behind Antarctica's, and its annual melt contributes more than a millimeter rise to sea levels every year.
"We should be very concerned about what appears to be progressive disintegration at the Arctic's largest remaining ice shelf, because upstream ... is the only major Greenland ice sheet ice stream," said Jason Box from The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) in a statement on Monday.
"These last two summers have been exceptionally warm," Box said, speaking to CNN Monday....

UW-Madison (click here) may scrap spring break from next semester's calendar to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The university's Faculty Senate will vote on a revised spring 2021 calendar at a 3:30 p.m. meeting Monday.
The idea behind eliminating the break midway through the semester is to discourage long-distance travel where students and employees could pick up the virus elsewhere and bring it back to campus.
UW-Madison leaders floated the idea in late August to the University Committee, which meets more regularly than the larger Faculty Senate body. Members seemed generally supportive of the changes proposed by Provost John Karl Scholz.
"I realize the slog of of going through a full 15 week semester with no break would be challenging but given the vagaries of the pandemic, particularly in cold weather when people are indoors and the like ... I'm enthusiastically supportive," Scholz said, referring to the revised calendar....

The de Blasio administration (click here) is planning to spend $10.4 million to outfit all NYPD patrol cars with bullet-resistant window inserts, according to City Hall officials.
The plan is expected to be announced Tuesday when Mayor de Blasio unveils an $84.7 billion preliminary fiscal 2018 budget — up 3.1 percent from last year’s $82.1 billion preliminary plan.
The NYPD began piloting the inserts in 2016, which protect the back portion of the driver and passenger-side windows but don’t allow the window to be rolled down....

The Gulf of Mexico at isn't highest number of hurricanes occurred in 2005. The year of Katrina. There were three major landfalling hurricanes that year reaching category five. Katrina was one of them. 2005 was a tipping point for Earth. 2020 is another. As long as California and any other state continues to dump massive amounts of heat into the troposphere the hurricanes will continue.
This is climate. Cutting down trees does nothing to end this dynamic. This is greenhouse gases. The greenhouse gases MAINTAIN the greenhouse effect that TRAPS heat in Earth's troposphere that allows Earth to be the home of the universe's LIFE.
Fighting the fires is mandatory and not an option. There is no such thing as allowing a fire to burn to an end. The firefighters try to protect lives and homes first, but, all the fires have to be extinguished.
The State of California and the National Forest Service MUST replace the forests as soon as possible and California MUST develop a program that RETURNS WATER VAPOR to the air, including building desalination plants that pump water to the state INCLUDING irrigation. California must be GREEN as soon as possible. I will say it again, a full forest canopy with plenty of mature shade on the grown provide a moisture environment that prevents fires and conducts itself as a carbon sink. It must be done and it can be done.
The fog immediately north of the hurricanes is smoke from California. That smoke is carrying PARTICLES that when it reaches water vapor empowers hurricanes. The particles are necessary to form cloud nebula and there is plenty of them for the hurricanes to help maintain it's strength.
The hurricanes are driving heat into the oceans. The oceans are also receiving carbon dioxide as well as heat. The addition of CO2 will cause acidification of oceann water and decalcification of shell fish.
It also creates a hostile ocean environment for reefs and their species. So much for sports fishing. The climate is destroying aspects of the economy.
Why is Oregon combating their fires better than California?
The best word is not "better" it is "easier." Why is Oregon finding it easier to combat fires than California?
On September 8, 2020 an arctic front decended from the north. Why? Because the fires in California was so intense it created it's own low pressure system, hence, more dense and heavier air from the arctic migrated to the lower latitudes.
Below is a satellite picture of the states. The deep purple and blue colors is the cold air mass that decended from Canada. It is the lowest latitude it achieved. The reason California didn't receivce the relief it needed is because of the Rocky Mountains.
California's problems with fires is enormous. Cutting down trees is a simpleton's idea of what the issue is in California. IT IS THE CLIMATE.
Another FAUX initiative by the GOP to attack governors in swing states.
The emergency power is exclusively the executive office. The GOP is lying. As soon as any initiative is passed it would be defeated in court. This is a consitutional issue, not a legislative issue.
These FAUX initiatives serve little purpose except to attempt to change the decisions about who people are electing come November.
Think about this now. The GOP is playing on innocent people with an initiative that is complete lie. These FAUX initiatives are predatory. They prey on the people that believe they are doing the correct thing for their state. It isn't even moral. Hasn't everyone had enough of the GOP? They don't even know what country they are loyal to.

What is happening with agriculture.
The Democrats need to remind the Midwest that Donald Trump is not backing them up. They need to realize Democrats have been responsible for starting and maintaining programs like the Farm Bill and Conservation Programs that protect their land.
The subsidies Trump issued went to about 1800 farmers, many partners living in the city. The average soybean payment was $8 per bushel when they really needed $10. They also had to wait for any help until after the crops were harvested. Dairy farmers had to beg Perdue to include them.
All in all less than a billion went out in the $8 billion program. There was a lot of paperwork and partners that don’t work the far got a lion share of the payouts.
Democrats need to remind the Midwest who there best friends actually are.

The U.S. Census Bureau already has hired about 170 people from the Flint area to conduct address canvasses starting next month, but it is seeking 800 to 1,200 more people here for other tasks later.
The jobs are temporary but pay about $14 an hour.
"I'm definitely interested," said Aaron Ruff, 31, of Fenton, who was laid off from his job at an automotive supply firm last November. "It's something I've never done before and I could always use the money."...

Flint - The city says it’s coordinating a final push (click here) to encourage residents to complete the 2020 Census, a big job considering an estimated 22 percent of the population hasn’t been counted so far and the deadline to do so is just 20 days away.
“This is a 10-minute investment that impacts us for the next 10 years. This is about making sure our community has the funding to provide services our residents need and deserve,” Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley said in a statement issued by the city on Thursday, Sept. 10....

The solemn ceremonies held at and near the Sept. 11 memorial in Lower Manhattan on Friday provided an poignant resonance in the face of a pandemic that has crippled the country for months and brought particularly devastating loss to New York City.
Outside the memorial plaza, a widow holding a picture of her husband admitted that the anxiety she normally felt on this anniversary was compounded by her fears over the coronavirus. A woman who lost her cousin when the Twin Towers fell equated the dedication of rescue workers in 2001 with the toil of health care professionals this year.
A retired firefighter said the lingering effects of the virus made him think of the continued ailments suffered by emergency workers who inhaled toxic dust, smoke and fumes at the site of the attack....

Monday marks (click here) one month since Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer requested a phone call with President Donald Trump to discuss the imposed state cost share for use of the Michigan National Guard for COVID-19 response, which federally funds National Guard activities and provides Guard members with federal pay and benefits.
Whitmer reiterated in a news release Monday that although Michigan continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, the president has still not responded to the governor's request.
"COVID-19 is still a very real threat to our state, and we need full federal funding for the Michigan National Guard in order to continue protecting our families and frontline heroes," Whitmer said in a statement. "Our Guard members have been vital to our COVID-19 response by testing thousands of people in communities across the state during the height of the pandemic, and will be crucial to our recovery efforts moving forward....

Bob Woodward did what he always does as a trusted member of a dearly democratic profession, he sought the truth and by damn it wrote a book about it. A BOOK. Not an article. Not the front page above the fold expose either. A book. He wrote an entire book out of a few interviews.
I trust Bob Woodward and believe every word he has written. In the case of Nixon, the Legislative Branch, being shocked and appalled at the truth displayed in The Washington Post, acted and began an impeachment inquiry that culminated in the president's resignation. Nixon was right to leave the White House, Trump is the example why.
The Tea Party sprang up overnight and even before Barak Hussein Obama was inaugurated. It is a travesty in the USA. But, without billions poured into their political advocacy by these families without an IPO, the USA may have been far safer from political extremists that are LOYAL to our enemies.
Trump's big claim to re-election is that Democrats will take away your guns, take away your cars, and increase taxes.

Well, the flip side of all that nonsense is that Trump will end Social Security, allow the assassination of American soldiers, the poor losers and suckers that they are. He will finish his march to become Putin's first major Western nation to become a Russian satellite.
Trump is as pathetic as much as he is pathologic and it is time the USA demand a change in administration and the return to a functional US Post Office guaranteed to them within the USA Constitution. Not FedEx or UPS, but, the US Post Office is guaranteed to Americans within their own constitution.

I wish she and the company the best.
This all makes sense, doesn't it? We know that SARS-CoV-2 causes an incredible response from the victim in the way of inflammation of tissues. The virus is also indiscriminate in the type of tissue it effects. But, we also know it has an affinity for the nervous system and in that lies the body's inflammation response to stop the virus.
The woman is recovering and that is exceptionally good news in relation to side effects of this vaccine. She is going to be okay. Not all the people effected by COVID-19's inflammation response survived to talk about it. She is also recovering quickly.
So, this will be considered a side effect of the vaccine. More over, since this is such a severe response the team at AstraZeneca will probably review all the data they have accumulated to this point and decide if the vaccine needs to be adjusted or this is the best it will be and the side effect in this case needs to be regarded as a potential problem for the people receiving the vaccine.
It is my guess, the researchers will double their efforts to examine all the data and bring this side effect under control in the final version of the vaccine. That could mean the vaccine needs a co-partner that will protect from extreme inflammation while still providing significant protection from SARS-CoV-2. That is a tough one because steroids are not good partners to producing a strong antibody response.
This is a prime example of the significant value of the third step in preparing a vaccine for use by everyone. The third trial does bring a better focus to widespread use. It is a very important trial.

The participant (click here) who triggered a global shutdown of AstraZeneca’s Phase 3 Covid-19 vaccine trials was a woman in the United Kingdom who experienced neurological symptoms consistent with a rare but serious spinal inflammatory disorder called transverse myelitis, the drug maker’s chief executive, Pascal Soriot, said during a private conference call with investors on Wednesday morning.
The woman’s diagnosis has not been confirmed yet, but she is improving and will likely be discharged from the hospital as early as Wednesday, Soriot said.
The board tasked with overseeing the data and safety components of the AstraZeneca clinical trials confirmed that the participant was injected with the company’s Covid-19 vaccine and not a placebo, Soriot said on the conference call, which was set up by the investment bank J.P. Morgan....
It was obvious Trump knew he was countering the experts from the beginning.
It is true he didn’t want to cause panic. But, it wasn’t the people he was worried about, it was Wall Street. That too was more than obvious.
Coming from Bob Woodward it is important because he heard the words come from Trump’s mouth directly. So, we have a witness now to the incredible crime against the American people.
I remind, July 25, 2020 was supposed to mean something and even that was disregarded by Trump and the Republicans and for what reason? The safety of our society and health of the US economy? No. Politics of hate. That was far more important than the sovereign domestic peace of the USA.
Thank you, Mr. Woodward for being a patriot. I might add the growing number of books about this wayward president and his administration are not only patriotic as well, but, all tell the same story about a ruthless president and his dominance of the Republican Party and their lack of patriotism and instead selfish interests from their seats of power in the USA legislature.
McConnell is a joke on us. To his right a Russian oligarch to help him keep his office. To his left a Chinese shipping magnate that helps him keep his office and wealth. Now, who’s interests are first in McConnell’s obstruction to maintain his status quo?
McConnell and Trump patriots? Sure, but, to which country is the question.
