A Washington D.C. grand jury (click here) returned a superseding indictment Tuesday against former President Donald Trump, essentially re-alleging that he conspired to undermine the 2020 election.
Prosecutors took the case back to a grand jury after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in July that presidents and former presidents of the United States have "absolute immunity" when acting on core constitutional duties and "presumptive immunity" on other matters.
"President's exercise of his core constitutional powers, this immunity must be absolute," the high court ruling said. "As for his remaining official actions, he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity."...
...In an 81-page filing with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, which has already twice reversed Cannon’s decisions in the case, the special counsel’s team points out that, since at 1974, no other court has denied the right of an attorney general to appoint an outside prosecutor to handle a case. That right, the filing notes, is acknowledged in four separate statutes and was recognized by the Supreme Court in the case U.S. v. Nixon, which upheld the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate a sitting president....

A source with knowledge of the incident said the cemetery official tried to prevent Trump staffers from filming and photographing in a section where recent U.S. casualties are buried. The source said Arlington officials had made clear that only cemetery staff members would be authorized to take photographs or film in the area, known as Section 60.
When the cemetery official tried to prevent Trump campaign staff from entering Section 60, campaign staff verbally abused and pushed the official aside, according to the source....

The official nonprofit organization of the National Park Service (click here) is set to receive the largest grant in its history, a $100 million gift the fundraising group described as transformative for the country’s national parks.
The National Park Foundation, which Congress created in the 1960s to support national parks, will receive the donation from Indianapolis-based foundation Lilly Endowment Inc. The park foundation described the gift on Monday as the largest grant in history benefiting U.S. national parks.
The money will be used to address the needs of the country’s more than 400 national park sites, said Will Shafroth, president and CEO of the National Park Foundation.
The foundation hopes to announce the first round of grants stemming from the donation later this year, Shafroth said....

Hunters will soon be allowed to venture into national preserves in Alaska (click here) and engage in practices that conservation groups say are reprehensible: baiting hibernating bears from their dens with doughnuts to kill them and using artificial light such as headlamps to scurry into wolf dens to slaughter mothers and their pups.
With a final rule published Tuesday in the Federal Register, the Trump administration is ending a five-year-old ban on the practices, which also include shooting swimming caribou from a boat and targeting animals from airplanes and snowmobiles. It will take effect in 30 days....

Chinese government-backed hackers (click here) have penetrated deep into U.S. internet service providers in recent months to spy on their users, according to people familiar with the ongoing American response and private security researchers.
The unusually aggressive and sophisticated attacks include access to at least two major providers with millions of customers as well as to several smaller providers, people familiar with the separate campaigns said.
“It is business as usual now for China, but that is dramatically stepped up from where it used to be. It is an order of magnitude worse,” said Brandon Wales, who until earlier this month was executive director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, CISA.
The hacks raise concern because their targets are believed to include government and military personnel working undercover and groups of strategic interest to China....

The Climate Crisis?
The Arctic Ecosystem of Alaska collapsed more than two years ago. The water is too warm, the ice is gone, the Pacific Salmon are in Canada, and the Alaskan King Crab are gone from Alaskan waters. It was a complete collapse of an ecosystem that cannot return because the ocean is too warm to support the species.
Is there a Climate Crisis?
Absolutely there is.
The Pacific Salmon were guided by what were called “gates.” The gates were ice. When the salmon migrated to rivers they were guided by the presence of ice. There were two ice gates. They are both gone and the salmon moved north into Canada without them.

Alaska needs scientists to restore its economic strength in a Sub-Arctic reality? Denial is the most stupid attitude the people of the USA can have in the face of overwhelming evidence AND impact.
