The Chicago Teacher Union strike is legitimate and Rahm needs to realize his options at this point.

The Chicago teachers strike (click title to entry - thank you) isn't only about pay and work hours. The union also opposes merit pay and stricter evaluation of teachers. The strike's outcome will influence the future of a national movement for accountability of public school teachers.

If I remember correctly and I haven't followed up on this yet, but, Florida evaluations were found to be unconstitutional.

The first bill Gov. Rick Scott signed into law, (click here) SB 736 rewrote how teachers are paid and retained across the state.

The Florida Education Association has filed a lawsuit challenging the law, arguing the law unconstitutionally strips teachers or their ability to negotiate pay....

There is absolutely NO REASON for any teacher to be retrained. That is a hideous concept. It is inept actually. Teachers are certified through state examinations. Teachers have to attended ACCREDITED colleges and universities and IT IS NOT CHEAP to be educated to be a teacher. That 'degree program' qualifies a teacher to sit for an exam to be certified to teach. The candidate for the exam also has special courses in college to approach the qualifications for teaching. 

So, this is no small matter and to think a Medicare Flunky, now Governor Rick Scott, believes he is all powerful to change all that is involved here is hideous. It is political demagoguery. To put it as plainly as I can put it, Scott is full of manure! And that is being nice. Basically, Scott and his peers need to go back to school to LEARN public policy making and how demanding a change is the educational system can be. 

THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING !!!!

Rahm should know better than this and he is heading for the NLRB if he doesn't come to terms with the limits he has as a mayor to actually implement changes in evaluation, even without a union. The union is protecting the teachers credentials as well as their financial interests. There is a lot to changing evaluations. It is not simple. The Florida case is the first to sincerely reach the courts after the 2010 extremists were elected into office.

It is easy for a politician, an under qualified politician like Scott, to tout he will implement changes, etc. But, it is a completely different process to actually do it. Republicans are a joke when it comes to all their bulloney about education. It is all anyone can do to sit back and wait for the process to finally 'hit the fan.'

If I were a new mayor in Chicago, I would ask for a well constructed and non-threatening paragraph in the new contract to require a commission of Chicago government, teachers, teacher union officers and / or leadership, legal council and accreditation authority to examine the process leading to poor outcomes by certain teachers. Including in the commission activities is the right to examine particular problematic records without a person's identity to legitimately seek 'a parent and child's RELIEF' from lousy education. It is not about the standards being problems, it is individuals that consistently prove under performance to even minimal 'standards of practice.'

No one will get an argument from me about COMPETENCY. That is not even a question. Our nation's security and economy relies on quality education of our people. But, for arbitration to iron out this mess within our educational system is not realistic. Quite frankly, it is taking INNOCENT TEACHERS hostage and that is not fair, moral or practical.

The commission to convene and reach conclusions is what the arbitration should hold with recommendations for effectively elevating the education of all children in the Chicago schools. Accountability should be an aspect to raises, but, there is a lot involved and it is a complex problem that will be inhibited by the courts at every step if it is not addressed correctly. Florida is a stark example. It is correct Florida is being held responsible for its punitive attitude with teachers. Florida has done it all "W"rong. It is time for Rahm to make the Chicago Contract work for the parents and students. Having legal challenges is not the way, it will inhibit the process and not facilitate it.

I used to be involved with union leadership. In most all cases the union wants their membership to be the best in the business and not the worst. Representation has to be real, especially when it comes to children. Union lawyers are blasted good at what they do, it is best to listen to objections by the leadership and work it out. The Union and Government want the same end result. I promise that, but, arbitration of a contract is not the place for these vital changes. No one is taking the time to think it through. It is all political fluff for the GOP. Completely dysfunctional.

I sincerely object to any indication this is Iranian in source. It does not appear at all to be. I truly believe these are old munitions and construction items Syria has stored somewhere. If one recalls, NATO strongly objected to any munition sales to Syria and I think this is clear indication those objections are being honored. Assad's military is taking whatever they can find and fashion parts for improvised explosive devices.

I do not believe Iran is involved with Assad to kill the people. I believe when Iran is asking for their nationals trapped in Syria it is a sincere asking and more than likely Assad is using those people as hostages for sales of munitions. I truly believe Iran is not involved with Assad, but, is seeking relief from him. NATO can and should approach Iran through their Swedish ambassadors to find out the ongoing relationship and if there is pressure on Iran to assist killing the Syrians. This is evidence Assad is running out of options and not receiving new munitions.

Yep, plenty of heat, but, no turbulence. There won't be, the path of the air mass has a movement north. There won't be air piling up into vortexes with expanding heated air. 

Well, maybe with summer coming there will be more moisture to form storms, but, it sure doesn't look like it yet.

Spring may be here (click title to entry - thank you) but the winter wild weather is continuing to lash parts of both islands.

MetService has issued a strong wind warning for Wairarapapa and the southeast of the South Island, as a deep low over the south Tasman Sea passes up the country.

Strong west to northwest winds are expected to intensify this afternoon in the Wairarapa, rising to severe gale strength this evening. In the Southland, Clutha and Dunedin areas, west to southwest winds are forecast to reach gale strength this evening.

Gusts of up to 120kmh in exposed areas are possible.

MetService advised winds of this strength have the potential to damage trees and powerlines and make driving hazardous.

Severe gales are also possible about Wellington, Marlborough and Canterbury from this afternoon through to tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile heavy rain is likely about Fiordland and Westland today, with significant spillover rain also possible in the headwaters of the Otago and Canterbury lakes and rivers.

MetService said periods of heavy rain is expected in Buller and northwest Nelson from this afternoon through to tomorrow morning.

Heavy rain about the ranges of the central North Island eased early this morning.

Snow falls are forecast on Arthurs Pass, Lindis Pass, Milford Road and Lewis Pass over the course of the day, clearing tomorrow.

How many knew Leslie is still very viable in the Atlantic? How is Bermuda doing?

Topical Depression Twelve (click here) strengthened into Tropical Storm Leslie on August 30, 2012. On September 5, Leslie became the sixth Atlantic hurricane of the 2012 season, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC).

At 1:15 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time on September 5—about the same time that the NHC announced that Leslie had become a hurricane—the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image. Spanning hundreds of kilometers, Leslie had a spiral shape and clear eye characteristic of strong storms.

Its central pressure fluctuates for the next 21 hours. Oscillation. It drops to 55 knots but sustains those winds.

Then Leslie increases its central pressure by two millibars in three hours, but, never changes its wind speed. It sustains that wind speed and central pressure  at 988 millibars for another 30 hours. Leslie sustains the central pressure but drops wind speed to 50 knots. It is currently 50 knots with a central pressure of 988 millibars. It passed through 988 on the way to a hurricane before, but, the wind speed then was 60 knots per hour.

Leslie has company. My first impression is Leslie has been consuming its own water vapor to sustain its status. The winds maintained enough momemtum with the central pressure rising to continue to be a tight enough storm to feed its own water vapor needs. Why do I say that? Because on the 12 hour loop, THE SIZE / DIAMETER / RADIUS become smaller while maintaining wind speed and central pressure. The diminishing size is not dictating the resolve of Leslie necessarily, so much as its sustainability.

I've been watching Climate Crisis vortexes for over 12 years. I have them documented. They have characteristics and I can go into them, but, what they frequently do is hover over small islands as a hear source. That heat source, even from a small island sustains the central pressure. HEAT from Bermuda sustained the central pressure and the LENGTH of time Leslie sustained its central pressure was the length of time it was near or over Bermuda. I know this sounds outrageous, but, I have large Mid-latitude and Arctic Oscillation vortexes documented to sustain and maintain their position when over small islands. I have them generating their initial 'central pressure' over the island itself. It's all in my notes and if the Hurricane Center Research wants to check Leslie I'll guarantee that is what has occurred.

I used to write extensive geological descriptions of the jet stream and vortexes when I first started until I learned more about their BEHAVIORS. But, I know that is the case. It stagnated over Bermuda and maintained its 'heat' source while it drew down in size and used its own water vapor for fuel.

Nearly at the same latitude Leslie on the west coast at the north end of the Baja Peninsula there is a vortex forming.

The east coast of North America, including Canada should be on alert for Leslie for awhile, I wouldn't count it out yet. There is another circulation center to Leslie's east and additional turbulence off Africa. Africa is mostly unrelated, but, the circulation center to Leslie's east and the one forming on the west coast is stabilizing the Leslie where it is located. I am not saying it won't go out to sea and not make landfall, but, prudent observing is still in order. There are not that many isobars difference between Leslie and the other storms, even across the continent. As a matter of fact there is a break in the isobars toward Leslie southwest of where the tornado struck New York. 

Another six hours at least.

HAMILTON, Bermuda — Tropical Storm Leslie’s outer bands buffeted Bermuda with gusty winds and rain Sunday as it slowly edged past the wary British enclave on a path that was expected to take it to Canada’s Newfoundland later in the week.

The government reopened the L.F. Wade International Airport in the early evening after keeping it closed for most of the day due to tropical storm winds. Major airlines already had canceled flights to the British Atlantic territory of about 65,000 inhabitants....

...The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm had weakened slightly early Sunday, and it maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph). Tropical storm winds extended up to 195 miles (315 kilometers) from its center. By late afternoon, it was about 175 miles (280 kilometers) east-northeast of Bermuda and moving north at 14 mph (22 kph)....

Well, if I had read the article first I could have saved some time. No matter, there are no deaths in Bermuda, mostly power outages. Must have been a heck of a ride for days now. Not fun.

Iraq's ongoing civil war is different than war planes from Syria. If Syria is allowed to expand its own civil war it will engage the region.

In all honesty, the attacks upon the innocent civilians of Syria is far different than what is occurring in Iraq. The long standing problems in Iraq are between ethnic groups and power players within the society. The government is not randomly killing its citizens as Assad is. So, there is comparison between the two. The cross border attack by Assad has to end.

...Campaigning (click here) for a second day in Florida, where older voters and workers approaching retirement hold sway, Obama on Sunday was expected to highlight a study by a Democratic leaning group that concluded that on average a man or woman retiring at age 65 in 2023, would have to pay $59,500 more for health care over the length of their retirement under Romney's plan.

The numbers are even higher for younger Americans who retire later, the study found. A person who qualifies for Medicare n 2030 — today's 48-year-old — would see an increase of $124,600 in Medicare costs over their retirement period.

While Romney's changes to Medicare would affect future retirees, the study also said that Romney's plan to get rid of Obama's health care law could raise health care costs in retirement by $11,000 for the average person who is 65 years old today by reinstating limits on prescription drug coverage.

The study was conducted by David Cutler, a Harvard professor and health policy expert who served in the Clinton administration and was Obama's top health care adviser during the 2008 presidential campaign. Cutler conducted the study for the liberal Center for American Progress Action Fund....

Romney is afraid.

This isn't even a question about his own personal finances, it is a question about national policy he will institute if he were president. I don't think so.

Additionally, he is lying again. President Obama never stated he would be able to achieve 5.4% unemployment after the Bush's global economic collapse. As a matter of fact, about a year after taking office, one of the first in the Obama Administration was Joe Biden to state the collapse was far worse then first thought. At that point, the administration was seriously concerned about recovery. So, I know for a FACT President Obama would never make that prediction. He might have given a number if the American Jobs Act was passed, but, it wasn't anything near 5.4%. The economy is too sluggish and we are only now seeing good news out of Europe.

The statement by Romney is as bizarre as his unwillingness to address the policy he plans to introduce as president. He isn't going to tell the electorate about policy? He's just going to continue to lie. He is bizarre. There is no other word.

QUESTION: Is there something (click title to entry - thank you) you’re willing to say that’s more specific about which deductions you would eliminate?

ROMNEY: I know our Democrat friends would love to have me specify one or two so they could amass the special interest to fight that effort.

Romney will not reveal more details how his tax plan will be paid for, because Democrats would attack those details. And he again confirmed that they will all be worked out with Congress — which is to say, after the election. In other words, if Romney reveals those details now, Democrats would subject his plan to more scrutiny....

He is afraid of this opponents. He is completely unsure of any stand he takes. I think he is an empty suit unless he is consolidating assets and destroying companies to make conglomerates that don't hire many people.

Americans need to grow up and get real about what occurs in the aftermath of rape!

I find it extremely odd that when rape is discussed by media there is never 
a mention of wives being raped. There is a sterility about rape in the USA that
confines the 'idea' of rape to the unwed and/or young woman/girl. 

The rape victim is like a vestal virgin that has now the burden of carrying a 
fetus full term so it can then be adopted. A rape victim is to be thought of as
a wayward youth having sex and making excuses.

There are married women raped and the idea of their rape can drive their 
spouses out of the marriage. The idea a married woman would carry a child of
rape full term is a gross attack against marriage and the idea of it being 
sacred between two people.

The divorce rate among sexual assault survivors is extremely high. Often the 
significant other has grown up with preconceived notions (myths) about 
rape and cannot deal with the fact that someone else has "had" their spouse, 
even against the survivor's will. When the survivor has post-rape sexual 
problems, the significant other may interpret unwillingness or inability to have 
a normal sexual relationship as a rejection. Also, a sexual assault might 
bring other family problems to the surface. Advocates must address the problem 
of working with significant others of survivors. Significant others 
might make the situation more painful if not informed about what has happened....

Why would any minority group affiliate with a political party that is trying to ostracize them from their right to vote? 

Every aggressive act against the individual by the Republican Party drives them further than them. None of these tactics make sense strategically or morally. Not a one.

I never understood it and I never will. Those imposing hatred and oppression on others are crooks. They are not moral.

Those stating they walk in the light of God when they discriminate and hate, they are not moral what so ever at all. If God gave them the challenge to accept difference and share their cloak with all; then it is very clear they are not moral and do not engage in the words or works of any god I am familiar with.

...There is absolutely no question (click here) that Republicans are trying to suppress non-whites from voting, throughout the Southern states, in an effort that has been accelerating since 2010.  It is not difficult to catalogue this abusive Republican mission, which unfortunately has spread, in a few instances, to states above the Mason-Dixon Line as well.

Nor is there any doubt whatsoever about why Republicans are doing this, since the demographics of the states where it is happening suggest that it is becoming increasingly difficult for white descendants of the Confederacy, with their puppet conservative politicians, and for conservatives in general, to retain control of government.

Frankly, I find this voter suppression disgusting.  Southern conservatives, who now control the GOP, have succeeded in destroying the party of Abraham Lincoln, with its once long and proud tradition of seeking to extend the voting franchise, not restrict it....

Historic alliance will fight voter suppression with massive voter registration and education in churches across the country

(Baltimore, MD) – The NAACP today announced an historic partnership with the major African American Baptist Conventions to promote voter registration through the NAACP’s This Is My Vote! campaign. NAACP board members joined Baptist leaders at a press conference at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

“We are here today in the spirit of unity and common purpose to say that we will not allow our votes to be stolen,” stated NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous. “The NAACP and the black church have been partners in the struggle for justice, equality and fairness for more than 100 years. We will work together to defend the right to vote and at the same time empower our communities to vote in all of the 2012 elections.”

In the last year, more than 30 states introduced voter suppression laws that disproportionately impact African American voters. This partnership will combat these attacks and ensure high voter participation through coordinated registration, education, and Get Out the Vote efforts that will reach millions....

The Republicans have no moral content to their political acts against the nation.

Unemployment is down to 8.1 percent and the USA is seeing the same anemic job growth post recession as before.

The American people need to realize the damage done to the USA economy over the decades of Republican bubble and bust economics has done a lot of damage. Creating sustainable jobs is a matter of rebuilding the nation's manufacturing and future. The fact an entire generation of Americans were neglected except for using them to fight unnecessary wars is a serious reality everyone needs to get their minds around. There are structural deficits in our economy and that requires commitment to rebuild not simply seeking another bubble for immediate gratification followed by still yet another recession.

...Even with today’s (click title to entry - thank you) disappointing and troubling jobs report, private sector job creation under President Obama has far exceeded private sector job creation under President Bush. 40 months into his presidential term, there are currently more private sector jobs in the economy than when Obama came into office. At the same point in President Bush’s term, the total number of private sector jobs was still down 1.7 percent from where it began....

There is retraining needed for many of the unemployed for existing jobs without viable candidates to fill them. Those jobs need to be targeted for fulfillment. And no is going to get money from their parents to fill those jobs either. It is a matter of the nation's best interest to seek out holes in our employment and fill them. That is sustainable growth and not just another bubble for 'that feel good feeling.'

....Nonfarm payrolls increased only 96,000 last month, (click here) the Labor Department said on Friday. While the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent from 8.3 percent in July, that was because so many Americans gave up the hunt for work.

The survey of households from which the jobless rate is derived showed a drop in employment. The lackluster report keeps the pressure on Obama ahead of the November vote in which the health of the economy looms large.

"This weak employment report, in jobs, wages, hours worked and participation is probably the last piece the Fed needs before launching another round of quantitative easing next week," said Joseph Trevisani, chief market strategist at Worldwide Markets in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey....

I am skeptical to the ability of another QE adding to the willingness of any sector adding infusion of jobs to the USA economy. I'd like Bernanke to be successful, that is not the case, but, adding jobs that cannot be filled by the USA work force is a bit an act of futility. Wouldn't you say?

The fact of the matter is bubble and bust is not a strategy to sustained economy growth, quite the contrary, it devastates the American populous into homelessness and helplessness.

With poverty increasing and JOB OPPORTUNITY waning this is the completely wrong time to be cutting spending on domestic spending and support of those abandoned by the previous administration.

President Obama is on the right track to sustainable job growth and The American Jobs Act was PAID FOR. The GOP has never been more cruel to an entire generation of Americans that have believed in President Obama. They were never abandoned by him, but, only excluded from achievement by the GOP on a chronic path to campaign strategy for the past four years. 

It is a lot to ask to keep the promise of growth by this generation, but, President Obama has proven his ability to grow a sustainable economy that no Republican president before him as been able to provide. To change course now is the worst thing that can happen to the USA. We need good paying sustainable growth and to realize the USA has been raped of its assets o for so many years is to realize the remarkable work President Obama has done with the economy he inherited in remnants.

We have the growing infrastructure including jobs unfilled by this work force. It can occur and we will achieve our goals of a strong economy rather than just 'an economy.' We will have the American Dream back, but, it won't be in 'believing' it will happen, it will be in knowing we are currently making it happen.

President Obama is the way forward.

Let's hope the Chief Justice gets the oath of office correct the first time.
