..."These girls (click here) will go nowhere, until our brethren in Maiduguri, Abuja,
Enugu and Lagos are all released from captivity. So it hurts this much,
yet you kept our brethren in detention for over five years; our women
have been kept in cells without marriage for all these years; some of
our members, about 20 of them were given poison to drink and they died
silently in the cells. No one is talking about them.
"Let the world know that we are ready for whatever troops that are being deployed to fight us; we don't fear American troops. Let even King Pharaoh himself be sent down here, we will deal with him squarely," Shekau said....
One human life is not more important than another. The incarceration rate is low and there are no reports of torture. Prisoners aren't dying because of an active process in the prisons. The prisons are over crowded and impoverished. It is the conditions of the prisons themselves that cause the deaths.

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Rights organizations (click here) in
Nigeria allege that conditions in the prisons are appalling and say they
are investigating allegations of overcrowding, beatings and killings.
“It’s a national problem," said Suleiman Shuaibu, president of the African Youth for Conflict Resolution. "Everywhere in Nigeria inmates are suffering. Too much of population -- the prison yard is congested. The nature of where they sleep, the atmosphere is not conducive. They don’t have blankets to lie on.”
Shuaibu's group is investigating reports of abuse and overcrowding in prisons in Zamfara State. Authorities in Zamfara say these allegations are untrue.
Amnesty International says hundreds of people died from neglect or mistreatment in Nigerian prisons in 2013....
The Nigerian government is dependent on the global oil environment. The country experiences fluctuations in revenues.
Nigeria is Africa's (click here) largest oil exporter, and the world's 10th largest oil producer, accounting for more than 2.2 million barrels a day in 2011. Oil revenues totaled $50.3 billion in 2011 and generated 70 percent of government revenues. Nigeria's hydrocarbons sector is at a crossroads as the current administration attempts to pass the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill....
...The Petroleum Resources Ministry publishes little information on the upstream licensing process, fiscal and production arrangements, contracts, environmental impact assessments, or operational data. It publishes no reports on revenues. In contrast, the Finance Ministry publishes information on production volumes, prices, the value of resource exports, estimates of investment in exploration and development, production costs, costs of subsidies, production stream values, royalties, special taxes, and the government's share in production sharing contracts....
The Nigerian government (click here) has not dealt well with Boko Haram. They were sweeping the region and picking up people. There was a large emigration due to government soldiers.
...Nigeria received a "failing" score of 18, the product of particularly poor rankings on government effectiveness and the rule of law....
Ethnic violence (click here) and separatist movement. A separatist movement at gun point will never sustain. Creating a new nation isn't going to solve the problems of the people in Nigeria.
Here it is. Natural resources. Typical fuel for militants and violence.

ZAMFARA STATE, Nigeria (click here) — It’s not exactly your classic California gold rush. But it might end the same way — enriching a precious few, and leaving the rest penniless.
In this remote region of northern Nigeria, where camels wander bareback through the forests and farms, small-scale gold miners are struggling against confusing government regulations and captivated corporations seeking the precious metal.
Hassan Mousa, a miner and father of seven, lives miles from then nearest paved roads, electricity or cellphone service. Before he started mining, he said, his family was barely surviving....
This is what poverty brings. This is why the Nigerian government is a failed government. The people do not receive the benefits of their natural resources and are very poor. As a result they take things into their own hands, find guns and the rest is history.
The people at the top of the pyramid don't care about the economy, they simply punch holes in the ground and extract their wealth. The rest of the country is left to chance. When this level of neglect of the people occur there is violence. Welcome to Africa. Two tier class system. The wealthy that purchase goods at malls and the impoverished without a chance in life.
The reality in Africa is stark. Because 'the word' is out now. There is gold in northern Nigeria. Guess what follows?
The government takes over the area and the Great White Man comes with machines and takes the natural resources. Where are the people in this? Ask the miners in South Africa.
Then the people rise up against The Great White Man and they are killed by the government. That is why Boko Haram exists and they will carry out enough violence to secure the region so The Great White Man doesn't have a chance.
The USA is interested in Nigeria because of girls kidnapped by the most violent militia in Nigeria. The girls better not be caught in the cross fire. The complaints of Boko Haram have to be recognized and reforms within Nigeria has to occur. There has to be an accounting of the dead in prisons and by the government of citizens over decades due to complaints of The Great White Man and it needs to move to the world courts. This violence has to end and those that carried it out held accountable. The USA is not sending troops.
I don't care if the trials are post-humorous. The dead need to be recognized and the truth be known!
Will there be justice for the people of Nigeria? Was there ever justice for the people of South Africa?
He is one smart rebel. The best thing he did was to put the live girls on video. Amazing. He and his militia can't be blamed for their deaths unless there is confrontation with the government and the girls are killed in the battle. They aren't militia leaders for no reason. Live by the gun and die by the gun.
Africa.
He's got a problem though. The government has already stated they will not negotiate with terrorists and at least one father has stated he backs the current Nigerian president. The rebels are losing the propaganda war.
Oddly enough, the rebels greatest ally is the USA and they may not live to realize it. With exposure of the extremism of the government what will result is continued pressure for reforms. The Nigerian people will win greater respectability and if the global community is actually worth anything, justice will begin and the violence will not occur again as a means to an end.
I hate to say much because people turn it into politics, but, the USA when in the hands of moral leadership actually can make a difference. When the USA turns into a war machine allied with greed merchants these people don't have a chance.
Today, if the USA didn't have moral leadership, the girls would not even be known.
That. Is. The. Absolute. Truth of the situation. The leadership of the USA matters on a global basis in the case of these people, their children and the best outcomes. War is not the answer for them. They have seen generations of war and tragedy. They don't need more.
The girls were in school. Nothing else needs to be said.
