This is typical of the dynamics of Global Warming. I have been seeing this type of 'near touchdowns' for at least a year in pictures. This happens daily along the N.C. Coast up to 100 miles inland due to the ocean winds that are warm from the equator. I happens less frequently once one is into the piedmont region of the state. These system want to be tornadic but never have the high velocity because they are large in 'surface area' in cubic feet, length, wide and height into the troposphere. I am not saying they will never manifest into tornadoes, but, just that currently there still is less energy to complete that velocity. We might see that change this year once we get past June 21st. The photographer writes: A severe storm that blew through Amarillo today dropped huge amounts of hail, a small tornado and this ominous looking wall cloud located just south and east of the city near Timbercreek Canyon. Thought for a moment it was going to drop a big tornado but alas the inflow was cut off by another big storm to the south west, stealing the energy away from this one.
