July 19, 2005/ Quintana, Texas. Noted beside the surfer which is the subject of the picture there is a boat at the end of the jetty and over the top wave one can see something 'mechanical.' I believe that is a fishing boat with both booms deployed in the rough surf. The photographer states: Surfer about to challenge the large swells generated by Hurricane Emily as she neared landfall oon the northern Mexico coast. This part of the Texas coast was far enough away from the center of Emily to have rideable surf. Seconds after this photo was taken the surfer was paddling toward the end of the jetty. Notice the boat washed up on the jetty. The photo was taken July 19 in Quintana, TX, around 50 miles southwest of Galveston.
