From the Diplomat:

China may be sympathetic to Russia’s motives, but it’s not sold on the idea of military intervention. (click here)

What does China think about all this?
The situation is Syria is a geopolitical mess (and a humanitarian disaster). There’s no good solution, regardless of your perspective, and China is no exception. China’s tangled interests in the Syria situation include a number of factors, some of which would seem to suggest Chinese support for Russia’s recent moves and others that pull Beijing in the opposite direction.
China has a general interest in supporting Russia, which has strong ties to Assad, on international issues, with the expectation that Moscow will return the favor. Warming ties between Moscow and Beijing since Chinese President Xi Jinping came to power in 2013 have intensified such cooperation, though it was evident under Hu Jintao as well. On the Syria issue, this has led to China and Russia acting in concert to veto four separate UN Security Council resolutions since 2011. China was also unwilling to criticize Russia for its annexation of Crimea in 2014, which went against China’s long-standing insistence on the inviolable nature of national sovereignty....

China and Russia are practically joined at the hip when it comes to each's national security. They share borders and oceans. It all makes sense. They also together rival the USA military. However. China rarely engages in a war footing. Exercises and warnings to Tiawan, but, not an active war posture such as Russia.

However, China has intense interest in the South China Sea. Vietnam recently has been angry with China because it is a little country with a minor military and China muscled the Vietnam border because of offshore oil that hasn't been tried. And we all know about the latest "Hobby" of the Chinese government to build artificial islands with no real bearing on it's sovereign borders. No maritime court is going to uphold that type of aggression regardless of the Chinese Navy coming to visit USA boats in the waters where islands are disputed.

China's neighborhood makes it nervous. China's existence in Asia is chronically irritated by Western influence. Vietnam wants a trade treaty with the USA. Lord know, John McCain has been bargaining for Vietnam fish in the USA market for as long as I can remember. And I can remember a lot.  And then there are all those stupid islands friendly to the USA when they are so close to China they should belong to China. You know, Taiwan, the Philippines and Japan. It would really help China a great deal with it's nervousness if those countries would just hand over their sovereignty completely. And, yes Taiwan is a part of "The One China Policy."

And then there are those other countries that lie to close to China that they should belong to China, Malaysia and Indonesia. It is so very frustrating for China when these small countries pose absolutely not threat to China. It is just that it's been paranoid for so long it is a bad habit.

So, China chronically feels over burdened with worry for it's rather lengthy shoreline. I should tell the story about it's real borders based in long time ago history. That would really freak 'em out. But. I think I painted an interesting picture. China much rather have trade relations with everyone and not get involved in killing and destroying. China likes building relationships and a flourishing economy. They are more interested in building the middle class in every country in the world, so there is no taste for war.

China was even annoyed over Crimea and what Russia did. Seriously. But, China isn't going to go to war over it. And, of course, one of the most vital roles China is burdened with is helping North Korea. China doesn't have to help North Korea, but, it does. And in that is the understanding China really, really likes to build relationships a great deal. The Chinese government likes being a friend and helpful. I am grateful China is a friend of North Korea. I am still hopeful someday, North Korea will have great relations with South Korea and China. Someday China, North Korea and South Korea will embark on a very lucrative and active trade balance between them. It would be wonderful. It would help North Korea with it's fishing grounds and feeding it's people.

Russia’s parliament (click here) granted President Vladimir Putin the authority to carry out military action abroad today. Russian officials framed the move as part of a stepped up counterterrorism plan that will include targeting the Islamic State, and Putin’s chief of staff told politicians in Russia’s upper house, “We are going to use only the air force.” However, unconfirmed early reports of Russian airstrikes on Twitter suggest that the strikes may include other opposition groups.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for a new peace conference on Syria, urging U.N. Security Council nations to “unite and seek the opportunity to politically solve the Syrian crisis as the parties are showing more willingness to do so.” In remarks at a counterterrorism summit on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, President Obama reiterated his position that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must leave power; “In Syria…defeating ISIL requires, I believe, a new leader,” Obama said. Fifty-five members of the U.S. House of Representatives posted a letter to Obama yesterday calling for inclusive peace talks on Syria....

But, this Syria thing? China has their own cranes built in nearly every country in the world from what I can tell. I would not be surprised if there are some Chinese cranes in Syrian ports. They aren't being used for trade with such tragic civil war, but, if there are no Chinese cranes in Syria, I am sure China would love to have them there.

China is not the country to get involved in anything, but, trade. Israel has relations with China and Russia.

Israel and China first established diplomatic relations in January 1992. (click here)... Two-way trade volume between Israel and China increased almost 200 times since relations were officially established, from only a little more than $50 million in 1992 to $9.91 billion in 2012....

China loves making money. It is more of a favorite hobby than building islands. Seriously.

So, I don't know what kind of information Ben Carson claims to have about China, but, it has been my observation that China is an open book for the most part.
