From Wanganui to Wellington:
Rain, easing to showers and fine periods this afternoon.
From Gisborne to Wairarapa:
Occasional rain clearing by evening, apart from showers in the ranges.
For Nelson, Buller and Westland:
Periods of rain. Heavy falls and thunderstorms in Nelson this morning.
For Marlborough and Canterbury:
Widespread rain this morning. Clearing this afternoon apart from showers in the Alps and about the Sounds.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland:
Rain with some heavy falls in eastern parts of Otago and in Southland. Southeast gales developing about Foveaux Strait and the fiords.
