The sheriff states the 11 year old boy obtained the gun from an unlocked closet. An 11 year old doesn't understand what a gun can do?
Perhaps we need to teach our children what guns are about from per-school to graduation. I am dead serious. That is the trend in the USA. Children handling guns in competition, on target ranges with some of the most dangerous guns in the world and don't forget about paint balls. If a society is going to expose their children to guns in a real way, they need to understand the power of a gun. Dead serious.
Will they be considered child soldiers? I suppose that is up to the international community to decide.

An 11-year-old boy (click here) has been found guilty of shooting dead an eight-year-old girl after she and her sister refused to show him their puppies.
A court in Tennessee this week sentenced the boy, who has been identified by American media, to remain in custody until he turned 19.
In his sentencing order, Judge Dennis Roach, said the boy needed rehabilitation and treatment.
"A child who commits first-degree murder cannot be willy-nilly turned loose into society," he wrote.
The court heard how the boy was in his mobile home in October last year, speaking through the window to McKayla Dyer, her sister and a friend, who lived in the same trailed park in White Pine.
When he asked them to bring their puppies and they refused, he disappeared from the window for a few minutes.
"[He] returned with a 12-gauge shotgun and BB gun," said the judge's sentencing statement, published by WATE TV.
"[He] then announced to the girls that he had guns.
"The victim then laughed at [the boy] and stated that she believed they were not real....
The victim never took the gun threat seriously. They need lessons about how to conduct themselves when faced with a threat of gun(s) and not escalate the situation out of innocence. The girls should have left the scene as soon as the boy threatened their lives. They should have told an adult as soon as possible there was a threat to their lives.
The issue of puppies is also in the balance. Would he had shot them, too? Absentee parenting is what occurred. Absentee parenting is more responsible for the failure of American children be it violence or teen pregnancy.
