There is a lot of work to do if that is going to happen, including, privacy laws regarding mental health care. But, there are still dangerous gun laws that have to be changed.
Mass killings are a subject of mental health, but, it is also the subject of the gun culture in the USA and the violence it breeds.
Assault weapons for the USA? That extremism belongs to a philosophy of government that is misplaced. Such a permission to own military style weapons established danger to federal officers when a warrant was attempted to be served and cows removed. All those people were not suffering from mental illness. They were exerting lawlessness. There is a difference.
