Thank you for sending him home. He should not return to Ukraine. Just that simple. There are other interests he should pursue.
Stay out of the way. There is no profound leadership that has control over everyone's safety. I basically see eastern Ukraine as a No-Go Zone until there is peaceful return to governing. The militias should stop being dangerous people and return to work. They are not accomplishing anything except making the citizens fearful for their lives.
There should be no detainees. There should be no disruption in schools or businesses. The militias are creating their own economic crisis.
The only people that should be involved in conveying information to the people of other countries, at this point, should be diplomats. There is too much being said on the social media placing people like Simon Ostrovsky in the line of fire. He needs to stay out of a very unstable part of the world.
What is transpiring in eastern Ukraine is tragic. But, the militias have to stop their terrible activities and return to normal lives and work. No one is trying to cause them problems. They are causing their own problems. Hanging flags on buildings is MISCHIEF and does not achieve sovereignty by any stretch of the imagination. The candidates should be preparing for elections and the cities ending conflict to carry out those elections successfully.
I believe there are cultural differences that American journalists can't transcend successfully without placing themselves in danger. For whatever reason that is, it is a fact. We are all worried about the people of this region of Ukraine, but, there is dearly little to be done from outside the country. Any aggressions would cause far more deaths than may or may not have occurred already. I also believe there is a better than good change the journalists are causing tensions and not alleviating them. The less opposition to the militias there is the safer the people will be.
The investigations into whom is on the ground in eastern Ukraine is not the responsibility of journalists. That is tabloid information.
Enough.
