The current proposals for a gun bill comprises State's Rights.

This is from a state policy which prohibits reciprocity of concealed carry. This standard is not only one state. The current gun bill provides for reciprocity of concealed carry. It will increase the criminality of the bill and as a federal statute will remove strong protections of the states prohibiting the transportation of weapons across state lines.

Concealed Permit:

May issue to resident and non-residents.
Issuance of the permit is almost completely discretionary, and New Jersey courts have
upheld the policy of strictly limiting permits “to persons specifically employed in security
work . . . and to others who can establish an urgent necessity for carrying guns for self-protection.”

We have enough problem along the I-95 corridor and other areas of the country where guns flow like candy canes on Christmas. The law proposed with future compromise the safety of citizens.

I am quite sure no one wants to hear it, but, rather hear the rhetoric as a victory when in fact it is not at all. I am suspicious this federal bill will even compromise the stronger bills in Connecticut.

Basically, there is a lot of mischief in the bill at this point.

The cost for a state issued concealed carry is nominal for NJ. It is only $20.00. There just isn't any reason to pass a federal bill that will compromise the safety of the public for the sake of politics.

The proposed federal bill authorizes use of a state concealed carry permit instead of a background check when purchasing a firearm from a dealer.

Absolutely not. Every time a weapon is purchased there needs to be a background check. There are no free passes here. Nope. It takes less time for a background check than it takes to go through airport security.

Permits interstate handgun sales from dealers.

Nope. There should be no interstate commerce regarding guns. To begin with there will be gun dealers that go out of business as they are undercut by a few and few dealers. This is a move to 'Wall Street' the gun industry in a way it will have federal power over voting rights, too. Money, the less and bigger the gun dealers the more money they will have to put candidates into office to make our country more dangerous all over again.

Additionally, the more distant the gun checks become the less accurate they will be. A local gun dealer is the best option for the most control. A name with a face.

Family transfers and some private sales (friends, neighbors, other individuals) are exempt from background checks

This will provide for greater danger. I mean you've got to be joking. Connecticut was 'The Family Connection' and now this? Absolutely not.

Adam Lanza was never able to purchase a gun on his own. His mother circumvented the background check and put her own ideas about her son before the safety of others, including children. This is outrageous.

So, far this bill is nothing short of legislative malpractice. The Executive Branch should be assigning the commission. The Executive Committee according to the USA Constitution carries out these responsibilities. The last time a commission was left to the Congress we ended up with "The Sequester." Absolutely not. The President needs to find the qualified members for this commission. As far as I concerned this provision is unconstitutional. The responsibility belongs to the Executive Branch.

Summary of Title III: : This section of the bill creates a commission to study the causes of mass violence in the United States, looking at all aspects of the problem, including guns, school safety, mental health, and violent media or video games.

The Commission would consist of six experts appointed by the Senate Majority Leader and six experts appointed by the Speaker of the House. They would be required to submit an interim report in three months and a completed report in six months.

Title I is basically a voluntary effort. Why bother?

Summary of Title I: This section improves background checks for firearms by strengthening the instant check system.

- Encourage states to provide all their available records to NICS by restricting federal funds to states who do not comply. - voluntary

- Allow dealers to voluntarily use the NICS database to run background checks on their prospective employees. - This is an employee with open access to anything in the store. Hello? Voluntary? Right.

- Clarifies that submissions of mental health records into the NICS system are not prohibited by federal privacy laws (HIPAA). - voluntary

- Provides a legal process for a veteran to contest his/her placement in NICS when there is no basis for barring the right to own a firearm. - voluntary to benefit gun sales.

Does anyone believe this bill will improve the public safety or just provide better opportunities for gun sales? It should not be passed. At this point when States what to morally protect the public they can do so. This bill will compromise them and impose the gun lobby's will on States that don't want it. It is bad law. There is nothing here to cheer about.

It is malpractice of The Public Trust. It goes against the best interest of citizens.
