BEIRUT, Lebanon — Iran declared support on Wednesday for the new Syria peace envoy’s cease-fire proposal, joining Turkey in a rare moment of accord between two of the regional powers backing opposite sides in the 19-month conflict that has pitted the Syrian government against an array of armed opponents....
This may be a change in President Ahmadinejad's sincerity on human rights.
At the United Nations recently a different Ahmadinejad was reaching out to be seen as a man resolved to uphold human rights and seek good will between Iran and the West. I noticed the change. It was obvious, but, because it was a different demeanor for the Iranian President it carried a good deal of skepticism. This may be solid proof President Ahmadinejad is seeking to promote peaceful resolve to the region rather this his usual aggressive posture.

TEHRAN – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (click here) has said that ceasefire on Eid al-Adha was one of the proposals put forward by the Islamic Republic to resolve the Syrian crisis.
Ahmadinejad made the remarks during a meeting with directors of the Kuwaiti media outlets in Kuwait City late on Wednesday.
Eid al-Adha is an Islamic holiday which starts on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah (October 26) and lasts several days....
At this point I sincerely believe The West needs to join with Turkey to pursue the best resolve for Syria and continue to push for a better regional outcome with this sea change by Iran. I am still skeptical and Iran needs to be transparent about its nuclear program, but, this is a definite change in posture for Iran and it should not be taken lightly. President Ahmadinejad was definitively different at the UN this time around. One has to wonder what is being said by the Ayatollahs. I can't imagine the Iranian Holy Men are thrilled about Twitter.
There is also a new influence by what occurs in Iraq, too. The USA has left and the West are no longer killing Shi'ites. Some of the pieces fit the change.
Syria's Assad is Shi'ite. The ethnicity is a minority in Syria. Assad is seriously facing a unhappy global community. Perhaps, President Ahmadinejad is looking at his own reflection with Assad and accepting the fact his role model is not transcending the best outcomes for his lineage of ethnic relatives.
