Antarctica


Scott Base is at 6 o'clock with a reading below that is accurate (click on). The majority of the continent designated 'east' which is the right hand side of the picture is grossly out of proportion in heat.

The surface temperatures still lean to the freezing side of temperate but alarmingly Vostok is -36 C (click on) while the humidity climbs across the continent. The humidity rise is due to sublimation of the ice. I've never noted Vostok to be that warm as silly as that sounds. The reason the temperatures are still this cold is because very cold air is heavy and sinks to the surface. As the ice cools the hot air the surface temperatures reflect that cooling.
