September 7, 2005. Ophelia and the Gulf Convection Center are connected and escalating. The Gulf storm will more than likely build and move to the east but that is not guaranteed. It could pull Ophelia toward the Gulf as well. None of these storms are isolated with autonomously measurable dynamics. They oscillate with each other. That is what makes them unpredictable. It has to be treated as a system and not isolated storms. The entire system has an energy budget (heat budget) that oscillates to 'survival' of the system to deliver into the oceans. That IS the purpose of these storms. The physics have a goal.  Posted by Picasa
