Born in a Japanese confinement camp (click here) during World War II, Kiyoshi Kuromiya (1943-2000) was active in the Civil Rights movement and in anti-war protests as an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania. Kuromiya later co-authored books with Buckminster Fuller and became a founding member of ACT UP Philadelphia, which is still ACTing UP for housing justice in Philadelphia and fighting back against HIV criminalization and stigmatization today. He also founded the Critical Path AIDS Project.
