One former Michigan governor (click here) says another former governor should no longer face criminal charges related to the Flint water crisis.
In an opinion piece penned for The Detroit News, John Engler, who served as governor from 1991 until 2002, and former Lt. Gov. Dick Posthumus make the case for dropping two counts of willful neglect of duty against former Gov. Rick Snyder.
The misdemeanor charges against Snyder are pending in Genesee District Court but the case has been slow to develop since the indictments were issued by a one-man grand jury nearly a year ago....
Snyder's defense is based on technicality and not the facts that caused the poisoning and subsequent deaths and maiming of children.

Prosecutors in the Flint water investigation (click here) must stop using certain documents seized from state offices until an independent team reviews them for any violation of attorney-client privilege.
Genesee County Judge Elizabeth Kelly on Friday turned down a request to reconsider and change her Nov. 19 order against the attorney general’s office.
The dispute over documents has been a key issue since nine people, including former Gov. Rick Snyder, were charged a year ago with crimes related to lead-tainted water in Flint and Legionnaires’ disease.
State investigators armed with search warrants were accused of sweeping up documents that included confidential communications between lawyers and Snyder administration officials who were being sued in separate proceedings for alleged acts in Flint....

A spokesman for the legal team representing former Gov. Rick Snyder (click here) against criminal charges tied to the Flint water crisis says not to expect a trial until at least 2024.
Spokesman Jason Brown made the comment in a larger statement issued by Snyder’s attorneys on the one-year anniversary of the announcement of grand jury indictments against the former governor, seven other former state government officials and Flint’s former director of its Department of Public Works....
