Congress is out of line, but, they have been out of line since President Obama was elected. They appallingly embarrassing.
Let's see if we find a pattern.
1. Netanyahu makes a speech at a joint session of Congress that was an inappropriate conduct and ethics breach.
2. Congress writes an open letter to Iran.
I think I see politics at work and nothing more. I doubt anyone leader in Iran is paying attention to the US Congress. There is a war going on.
It's an utter crock, of course. (click here) But the dissonance between this crazed agitprop and the actual policies supported by those against Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon is revealing. If the hardline desperadoes in Congress really believed that Iran was bent on starting nuclear war, wouldn't they propose actions that would actually meet that threat?g
The Republicans are raising funds at the cost of international policy. Iran is not going to change their direction on sanctions. The Republicans are nut cases. Iran needs to file a complaint against the USA Republican Party with an appropriate UN department. The USA Republicans are ranting political accolades because their politics don't accept the USA Constitution anymore.
The US House of Representatives have absolutely no power in ratifying treaties.
The Constitution provides that the president "shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two-thirds of the Senators present concur" (Article II, section 2). The Constitution's framers gave the Senate a share of the treaty power in order to give the president the benefit of the Senate's advice and counsel, check presidential power, and safeguard the sovereignty of the states by giving each state an equal vote in the treatymaking process.
The US Senate has the right to advice and consent.
Section 2.2.1 spells out the power the President has in regard to treaties. The Executive Branch is required to construct treaties. No Legislative member in the US Senate or House has the power to negotiate treaties. The US House Republicans are simply playing politics. I think given the US Constitution, Iran has solid ground to file a complaint against them in international theaters.
Again, the US House has no power in treaty negotiations. Any idea to change that is a coup against the US Constitution and the people of the USA.
