How bizaare is this? A tropical storm in the North Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Chantal

July 31, 2007 1430 UNISYS Water Vapor GOES East Satellite

There is a great deal of promise for the low pressure just south of Chantal off the Carolinas and one in the Gulf of Mexico. These are all 'near shore' storms where humidity is currently available.

There is also a communicating system tied to the low pressure off the Carolinas that extends to the African coast. It is best noted on the Water Vapor Hemispheric satellite (click here). The 'paint splatter' cloud mass just north of Haiti and the small oscillating cloud north of the Lesser Antilles are all part of the system which connects to the equatorial humidity north of Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.
