The largest heat transfer ever recorded is occuring over Antarctica. There is not any portion of the Ice Continent that is not affected.
The majority of reporting stations are showing mostly temperate (near zero Celcius, click on) surface temperatures. In these areas there is still sustained high humidity. The reporting stations' page can be organized according to temperature with the coldest at the top if one clicks on the 'temperature' tab. It is easily seen from this view, there are more warm reports than 'deeply cold' as it should be.
Vostok is currently is -43 C with 38% humidity which is about where it was two weeks ago. The worst may be over and with Vostok getting closer to normally sustained temperature all this heat transfer may have run it's course. Water has a huge capacity to absorb and move heat, so with the high humidities across the continent last week, perhaps this is the worst it's going to be.
What is of greater concern are the Ice Terraces. I am confident they are taking a huge hit. The terraces protect the 'big blue ice' and if they give way to warmer air I have to wonder the increase in 'ice quakes' and crevases where there were none or perhaps expanding. I have not seen a recent report on C-Zero which changed direction and velocity in October 2002 to realize if the river is worse. I am sure it probably is. It changed direction because of the large amount of melt water under it.
