I am not sure how they can be made to be airtight, but, I am confident there are some great engineers that can figure it out for hospitals. Providing the design of "Make your own mask" and the materials and having the hospitals order them to a staff that is coached on how to make their own masks, could work. It is the high filtration and an airtight fit that is necessary. Some of these filters have a longer timeline of use before they are disposed of. Of course, the current system uses only disposable masks. It is ideal. But, with the right reusable materials that can be sterilized by simple methods, even soaking in a vinegar solution. The filter removed and stored in labeled containers for each nurse and the reuseable mask structure soaked for sterility, can provide reusable masks made by hand.
Disposable supplies were not always available in the medical field. That goes back in time, but, it was the case.
Nurses and doctors cannot get sick. Just that simple. There needs to be serious thinking about how does the country MAKE masks that keep them safe.
It is not right they are abandoned to, "Too bad" either.
The idea is that nurses fitted with PPE will work with Covid 19 patients. PPE, when disposable, is also in consideration of the patient as well, but, in all honesty PPE is about the professional.
