Young Americans have enormous opportunity to serve humanity in the Peace Corps and/or the innumerable non-profit organizations that dot the planet thanks to George W. Bush and his crossing of the wall between church and state.
We do not need a nation blighted with PTSD. The current military is engaged in a war that should have ended in 2002. The war into Iraq and now the extremist regime of Trump is a strong reason to NEVER invoke mandatory national service. This is primarily a Republican paradigm and to compare it as a necessity to Israel is bizarre.
If the USA military is tired of having only 1 percent of the USA population involved in service to the country and it's hardest reality of PTSD causing domestic deaths every day, THEN STOP CARRYING OUT WAR.
The USA military should be involved in enforcing diplomacy over war in every effort it has.
