I can't say it enough. If people are inside brick or stone building AND AWAY from glass, they will be okay.

I will repeat it again. When these storms are approaching, stay inside brick or stone buildings away from windows. Protect oneself from flying glass. The houses/buildings made of wood frame will not protect people. They have to have shelter within a stone structure or in the basement of a house as a last minute measure, but, the danger with basements in these storms is there are deluges of water that accompany these tornadoes and if one is in a basement that floods they could drown. These storms are completely 'atypical' of any storms civilization has experienced before. They are intense, immediate and heavily laden with water because of the availablity of humidity when they form.

Okay, the link at the title of this entry is for the GOES East satellite. This is the larger satellite picture of the severe storm that reached New York City yesterday. There is a vortex over the North Atlantic that moved the system through NY City which first visited Chicago. That is NOT the only culprit in this matter.

I have earlier last week and this mentioned the 'anti-cyclonic' (click here) vortex in the center of the North American Continent in the northern hemisphere. This movement is normally noted in the southern hemisphere.
