April 24 (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber killed nine U.S. soldiers and wounded 20 at a military base north of Baghdad on Monday, the U.S. military said. One Iraqi civilian was also wounded in the attack.
A U.S. soldier died on Monday after a roadside bomb exploded near him in Muqdadiya, 90 km (56 miles) northeast of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.
Following are the latest figures for military deaths in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003:
U.S.-LED COALITION FORCES:
United States 3,333
Britain 145
Other nations 125
IRAQIS:
Military Between 4,900 and 6,375#
Civilians Between 62,281 and 68,289*
#=Think-tank estimates for military under Saddam Hussein killed during the 2003 war. No reliable official figures have been issued since new security forces were set up in late 2003.
*=From www.iraqbodycount.net (IBC), run by academics and peace activists, based on reports from at least two media sources. IBC says on its Web site that the figure under estimates the true number of casualties.
Of course the Iraqi death tolls listed here are from sources available to media agencies. Noted are studies conducted in universities in Australia, Europe and the USA that have concluded the number dead in Iraq is minially 225,000 to over 650,000. These numbers also do not reflect the number of citizens wounded and permanently maimed or the vast number of refugees of which the USA has virtually accepted no responsibility.
