(Reuters) - Islamist militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons fought their way into one of Pakistan's largest air bases on Thursday, the air force said, in a brazen challenge to the nuclear-armed country's powerful military.
The attack was repelled and only one aircraft was damaged, said an air force spokesman, adding that the Minhas air base at Kamra, in central Punjab province, did not house nuclear weapons....

The Taliban probably assisted by al Qaeda are more active on both sides of the Afghan - Pakistan border. They are trying to make in roads of terror with the populous. The attack on the airbase was a definition of their will. It was a large expression of their desire for control over the region.
There is no reason to continue the USA presence in Afghanistan. I know that sounds wrong, but, these are attacks similar to what was transpiring before the USA left Iraq. The attacks are based in religious demands on the people and will exist whether the USA is there or not. They will actually abate for the most part if we leave.
