The wind
has shifted, forcing the massive High Park fire to blow back on
itself, at least northwest of Horsetooth Reservoir.
"We
are making good progress and in some cases, the fire has died down
and moderated," Larimer County executive officer Nick
Christensen said this afternoon at a briefing.
However,
there are new concerns about flame activity and movement in the
northeast corner of the fire, near where the Hewlett fire burned,
moving toward the Bonner Peaks subdivision and the large Glacier View
neighborhood....
Massive wildfires (click here for a garary of images) in the drought-parched West are spreading across Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and other states. Wyoming has diverted aircraft from two fires to help with a massive blaze in Colorado, and Canada has sent two aerial bombers to help control the fires.
There are assets being called in from Alaska and Canada to help combat the wildfires. But, these are directly related to drought conditions. If they were started by negligence of campers or on purpose by an arsonist, the current conditions are allowing these fires to race out of control.
The Republican Congress needs to take a good look at the states on fire and the states where drought exists. There is a reason for it, called anthropogenic Climate Crisis. When the political Right Wing goes home on their frequent breaks this year they need to realize their CUTS in domestic spending have left the lower 48 states short on capital investment to fight these fires. When your constituents complain about their homes being lost and the fires burning out of control, REMEMBER THAT. Maybe the GOP will consider empowering their constituencies with large diameter garden hoses from now on since supporting firefighters and emergency workers is out of the question!
