Republicans are looking for something to provide a wedge issue for this election season. They are so desperate they are drumming up an issue due to be a legislative priority at the end of the year. This is new? This is a resolve? Same 'ole, same 'ole GOP.
...Boehner issued the warning Tuesday, (click here) declaring, "We shouldn't dread the debt limit. (As a) matter of fact, I think we should welcome it.
Boehner says Republicans won't allow another increase in the nation's debt limit unless it's offset by spending cuts, and no tax increases.
"Allowing America to default on its debt would be irresponsible," he said.
The nation's debt has nearly tripled in the past decade, and now stands at $15.6 trillion.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has predicted the U.S. will hit its current borrowing limit of $16.4 trillion by the end of the year.
Congress will have to raise that limit to avoid a damaging default on the nation's debt payments.
On the campaign trail, Mitt Romney echoed Boehner's hard line, saying, "Washington has been spending too much money, and our new president made things worse."
This is the second time Republicans are demanding deep cuts in exchange for their vote to raise the debt limit....
Who can believe a word the Republicans say? The Republicans in the House and Senate are trying to undo the last round of cuts. When are we going to have a government that actually lives by their resolve to do what is necessary for the country. The Republicans are spineless. They can't even swallow the last set of cuts and now they are pretending to make an effort that the Democrats are going to fight. What does the nation want, a party that lives with their resolve or one that manipulates it? The GOP are wimps and they can't stand the idea they might not get tons of monies from cronies supported by the taxes of the very electorate that puts them in office.
The GOP are spineless whims crying wolf while following the leader like sheep!
