July 2, 2005. Sterling, Alaska. Photographer states: At last report, this fire was 10,100 acres in size. We have had two days of high humidity, light winds and spotty rain showers over the fire area. This is the head end of the fire as seen from across Bottenintnin Lake, about 1.5 miles from the fire.
KING COUNTY CREEK, Kenai-Kodiak Area Forestry. A Type 2 Incident Management Team (Doty) is assigned. This fire started on Fish and Wildlife Service land 13 miles southeast of Sterling, AK in black spruce, mixed hardwoods and dead & down beetle killed spruce. Residences and commercial property remain threatened. Fire activity has increased with clearing weather.
