The Iran Nuclear Deal that Secretary of State Kerry participated in was to end a nuclear threat in the Middle East.
Iran was and is not today a direct threat to the USA. There is a threat to allies of the USA, hence, Secretary Kerry brought important leverage to those talks.
If Iran was allowed to continue to weaponize its peaceful nuclear program it would hold unreasonable power over every country within reach if its ballistic missiles including Turkey as well as Israel. No country would be safe, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and on and on.
The JCPA was successful as well as enforceable by the United Nations’ nuclear authority. Rather than enforcing the JCPA, Trump played politics with it hoping to garner the political support of the American Jewish community. When Trump won his first election he withdrew from the Iran Nuclear Deal and the Muddle East was left with a bare bones treaty that Iran basically ignored. Why? Because without the full weight of the USA behind the treaty Iran was once again boss with intention to escalate enrichment.
Israel today, after being successful in Gaza, turned to Iran to end the nuclear threat. That is where we are and Trump has 90 days of authority to assist Israel without movement to a declaration of war by the USA Congress. Of course, there is no reason to declare war on Iran as it is of no threat to the USA or allies now that Israel has destroyed it’s nuclear facilities.
My point of view means nothing, but, in my opinion war reparations to Iran will be astronomical if this destruction continues. There is also the issue of deaths of civilians.
Trump needs to clarify surrender. The Iranian people need a homeland, so, the only rational understanding of surrender is a signed document relinquishing all nuclear capacity. Sort of like Grant and Lee. Or. FDR and Churchill and Stalin at the end of WW II.
I don’t see Iran vaporizing into nothingness, which might be a difficult concept for a racist president.
